Town Seeks Summer Lifeguards For Local Pools & Beaches protecting residents and have helped save countless lives in both pool and ocean waters,” said Supervisor Saladino. “The Town lifeguarding staff has a tremendous sense of dedication and understanding of integrity, accountability, and the importance of teamwork.” Town lifeguards are hired for the summer season, which runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Positions are available at all Town pools and beaches. Applicants must be a minimum of 16 years old, possess a current Lifeguard Certification and a current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer. Residents Invited To Submit Photos For Town Publications
Oyster Bay Town Councilwoman Laura Maier invites residents to submit photos taken in the Town of Oyster Bay to be considered for use in Town publications. “Our residents recently received their 2021 Town calendar, which is filled with photos submitted throughout the year depicting people, places, community events and scenery throughout our Town,” said Councilwoman
Maier. “We accept photos for the calendar, as well as other Town publications, including our website and brochures.” Councilwoman Maier noted that photos should be taken within the confines of the Town of Oyster Bay. Digital submissions are preferred, but high-quality photos may also be submitted. Emailed photos should be sent to photos@ oysterbay-ny.gov. Printed photos can be submitted
to the Town’s Public Information Office, 54 Audrey Avenue, Oyster Bay NY 11771. Residents should make sure their name, address, phone number and brief description of the photo are included with their submission. The photographer is responsible for the correct spelling of the names and subjects in the photos, as well as notifying subjects they may appear in a Town publication.

YES Community Counseling Center (YES CCC) is a local non-profit organization with a mission to increase awareness about personal and community issues, prevent and treat substance abuse and to promote healthy families and a safe community. The United States Surgeon General issued an advisory in December 2021, Protecting Youth Mental Health, which spoke to the unprecedented challenges our nation’s children and families face, compounded by the pandemic. Without surprise, the report highlights the growing prevalence of young people experiencing mental health issues and acknowledges risk factors that became more present as a result of COVID-19. Responding to youth and families for the past 45 years and maintaining essential programs throughout the pandemic, YES Community Counseling Center is keenly aware of the growing needs and challenges referenced in the Surgeon General’s advisory. Some good news from the pandemic is that the public has recognized the need to support youth mental health and well-being. Educators supported their students in ways they had never imagined, schools and parents have recognized mental health is an essential part of overall health...mental health conditions are real, common and treatable. Youth experiencing mental health issues deserve support, compassion and care not stigma and shame. Research shows that the most important thing a child needs to be resilient is a stable committed relationship with a supportive adult. So what can parents do? Be a positive role model by taking care of your own mental and physical health. Show positive ways you deal with stress, refrain from unhealthy coping strategies, etc. Emotional Regulation. Practice techniques to manage emotions by first
developing emotional intelligence within ourselves and our children. Taking the space between thoughts and behavior to identify feelings and how to effectively communicate those feelings, etc. Talk about the risk of alcohol and drugs. Children are exposed to positive images about alcohol at a very young age. Parents need to counteract those positive messages by communicating the negative impact of alcohol and other drugs in a youth’s developing brain. Look out for warning signs of distress and seek help when needed. Signs of distress include irritability, anger, withdrawal, changes in appearance, performance at school, sleeping or eating patterns. When you notice changes let your child know your concerns and be ready to support them. Seek professional help through your pediatrician if necessary.
