the Change will highlight Gabriella’s work on its social media platforms. Additionally, Carly Paine and Trinity Babino received honorable mentions for their visual works. Gabby—along with Carly and Trinity—created funny and poignant stories that resonated with all who experienced them. Stage the Change took notice, and now a much wider audience will get to experience this moving work. At the start of the pandemic, Stage the Change created a call to action for students to write monologues about
their COVID experiences. Farmingdale High School theater teacher Glen Beck saw an opportunity to turn this project into an outlet of creative expression for students as they navigated such an unprecedented time. Stage the Change was founded in 2012 through the Hauppauge High School Drama program to help students become global citizens through creativity and performance. Congratulations to Gabby for continuing to showcase the theatrical work being done at Farmingdale.

Longevity in marriage is something to be celebrated. Couples who reach fiftieth and sixtieth wedding anniversaries often commemorate those anniversaries with big parties. But there are some around the world who would consider golden anniversary celebrants to still be newlyweds. In December 2015, Karam Chand, 110, and his wife, Kartari Chand, 103, from Bradford, West Yorkshire (originally from India), celebrated their 90th wedding anniversary, becoming the world’s longest-betrothed couple. In America, John and Ann Betar, ages 104 and 100, respectively, have been married 83 years as of 2016. The couple eloped in 1932. They have been named one of America’s longest-married couples by the Worldwide Marriage Encounter.

T h e Twilight Wish Foundation is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization whose mission is to honor and enrich the lives of seniors through intergenerational Twilight Wish celebrations. Since the organization’s founding in 2003, their goal has been to make the world a nicer place to age, one Twilight Wish at a time. When a Twilight Wish is granted, a senior is recognized for all that they have done throughout their lives and is shown that they are appreciated and valued. To date, the Twilight Wish Foundation has granted over 3,700 wishes throughout our country and multiple wishes have being granted on Long Island recently! These wishes have ranged from simple needs wishes, such as shaving razors for nursing home veterans, to living life to the fullest wishes, such as going cross country in a tractor trailer truck. Recently, many Long Island residents had their wishes come true. Each week for the remaining weeks this month, I will feature wishes that were granted right here on Long Island, starting with Kathy W. Dorothy Delia is an 87 year old resident of West Babylon. She worked and volunteered for the Salvation Army in Ridegewood and Queens for over 20 years. Prior to COVID, she was very involved in her church by coordinating the prayer chain, greeting worshippers and helping at fundraisers and events. Dorothy desperately needed dental work, but because she lives on a fixed income, she could not afford it on her own. She had been losing teeth and could only eat soft foods. She wished for dental work, which was granted! In February 2020, she got a new healthy smile! Many seniors experience social isolation, which can lead to undesirable
conditions. Granting a Twilight Wish can help change that! You can qualify for a Twilight Wish if you are at least 65 years old, are a legal U.S. citizen, demonstrate financial need, provide a history of giving back to others and possess the cognitive, emotional and physical ability to experience the wish. Please note, when going to grant a wish, this foundation takes all the necessary safety precautions. If you would like to get involved with The Twilight Wish Foundation, you can! Residents who love visiting the beach and want to help protect the shoreline can join Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and members of the Town Board at the Towns’ annual Dune Day, scheduled for Saturday, March 27th at TOBAY Beach. The event begins at 10 a.m. by the dunes at TOBAY. Supervisor Saladino stated, “The Dune Stabilization Project brings together residents of all ages in an effort to protect and preserve our beautiful shoreline and
environment by planting stalks of dune grass. This year, our event takes a social-distanced approach as volunteers must wear a mask and remain socially distant for the duration of the event.” The Dune Stabilization Project helps preserve our beach and barrier island for future generations, Volunteers work alongside Town officials and crews, as well as residents from across the Town who share an interest in helping preserve TOBAY Beach. Dunes along our south shore continue
to face environmentally damaging storms that have a significant impact on the beach. Statistics indicate that the planting of dune grass provides a natural shield that is perfect for withstanding storm surges and high winds. No one group has seen the devastating effects of COVID-19 more than our frontline

Town Launches Healthcare Hero Recognition Program
To help residents looking to obtain or renew their passports, Oyster Bay Town Clerk Richard LaMarca today announced that his office will offer a special one-stop Passport Weekend on Saturday, March 20th and Sunday, March 21st from 9am to 3pm at both Town Hall North in Oyster Bay and Town Hall South in Massapequa. “Are you looking to apply for a passport? You can visit Town Hall during Passport Weekend to receive free assistance in preparing your application, organizing your documents, obtaining a photo and submitting the documents for approval.” Requirements for applying for a passport include:

Town Seeks Volunteers for March 27th Dune Day at TOBAY Beach
To raise awareness of pollution and its impact on Mother Nature, Councilwoman Michele Johnson and Councilman Lou Imbroto recently announced a new Environmental Poster Contest open to 4th and 5th grade students in the Town of Oyster Bay. The theme of the poster contest is ‘How Plastic Pollution Harms Our Waterways.’ “This poster contest is a great way to bring more awareness to a critical issue that we are facing today in our environment,” Councilwoman Johnson said. “These posters will not only help inform those who view them, but the simple act of putting together an entry for the contest will help better inform the students of our Town regarding this issue, and this will be knowledge that they will be able to bring forth with them in their lives to help make a difference as they grow up.”

Students should submit a poster to communicate awareness of how items of plastic litter harm our waterways by illustrating the problem of floatables in our waterways. Submissions should be made on large poster paper, with the top three winning posters to be displayed at a Town facility and showcased in a future Town of Oyster Bay Environmental Newsletter. “This contest is being cosponsored by The Waterfront Center and Friends of the Bay to help further protect and preserve the environment. Both of these nonprofit organizations have been a huge asset in helping to protect and preserve our waterways,” said Councilman Imbroto. “I encourage all 4th and 5th grade students in the Town to participate in this program, as it offers an opportunity not only to win amazing prizes, but also an opportunity to become more
educated on the serious issue of plastic pollution in our waterways.” Prizes will be awarded for the top three submissions, with 1st Place receiving a private tour of Oyster Bay Harbor aboard a Friends of the Bay vessel, $200 gift certificate for the Waterfront Center in Oyster Bay, a nautical trivia game, and Friends of the Bay apparel. Submission deadline for the contest is Thursday, April 1, 2021, with winners to be announced on Earth Day, April 22, 2021. Along with their poster submission, students must include an entry form, which is available at www.oysterbaytown. com/postercontest. replacing filters and fluids as recommended in the owner’s manual and having engine performance problems such as rough idling corrected. • Use windows and air-conditioning wisely. At highway speeds, it’s better to keep windows up (and air-conditioning on, if wanted) to reduce air drag. But turn off the A/C in stop-and-go traffic to save fuel.
Residents Invited To Submit Photos For Town Publications Oyster Bay Town Councilwoman Laura Maier invites residents to submit photos taken in the Town of Oyster Bay to be considered for use in Town publications. “Our residents recently received their 2021 Town calendar, which is filled with photos submitted throughout the year depicting people, places, community events and scenery throughout our Town,” said Councilwoman
Maier. “We accept photos for the calendar, as well as other Town publications, including our website and brochures.” Councilwoman Maier noted that photos should be taken within the confines of the Town of Oyster Bay. Digital submissions are preferred, but highquality photos may also be submitted. Emailed photos should be sent to photos@ oysterbay-ny.gov. Printed photos can be submitted
