Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos hosted the first Nassau County “Women of the World” Art and Photography Exhibition to promote local female artists and to support the growing arts and film industry in the County. The Exhibition, which kickedoff Women’s History Month in Nassau County, attracted over 300 attendees to view pieces from 53 local award winning artists. The winning artists were Victoria Selbach in the fine arts category and Asia Lee

Farmingdale High School student Minhal Ahmed has been named as a finalist in the National Merit Scholarship competition. Minhal is one of 15,000 students across the country to receive this honor. This accomplishment

recognizes Minhal for his academic achievement as well as his success beyond the classroom. The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships based on high school student’s scores

on the Preliminary SATs and the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Tests. Students are also assessed on their volunteer participation, teacher recommendations, their grades in high school courses and rigor of courses taken.

Farmingdale Village and the Downtown Planning Committee announce the 2nd Annual Saint Patrick’s Day Parade to be held on Sunday, March 23rd at 1 p.m. The parade kicks off from Northside School and spans about half a mile down Main Street to the Village Green. Co-Grand Marshals include John Court of the Nutty Irishman and Farmingdale Village Deputy Mayor Patricia Christiansen. “The parade will be followed by a closing ceremony at the Farmingdale Fire Department and family fun festivities on the Village Green. Some participating Main Street restaurants and clubs will be offering dining and drink specials after the Parade”, said John Court of the Nutty Irishman. “Last year’s inaugural Parade was a huge success, it was estimated that more than 4,500 people lined the streets and participated. For The Love Of Fur Mark your calendars! Save-A-Pet Animal Rescue and Adoption Center Inc. will be holding its 13th Annual Evening for the Love of Animals Fur Ball 2014 on April 3rd. The event will be held at Flowerfield Celebrations Catering, located at 199 Mills Pond Road in St. James from 7 to 11 p.m. The honorees for this year’s Fur Ball will be Mark Lesko, Executive Director, Accelerate LI; Gail Waller and Wendy Waller. The Fur Ball event was organized to bring people together who share a common bond: an undying love for animals. The money raised will be used to continue SaveA-Pet’s commitment to programs such as saving lives of homeless animals, pet adoption, spaying and neutering, feral cat TNR (trap, neuter and return),
