The Parking lot renovations / repaving / rehabilitation are now completed – 9 parking lots were redone, and many roads in the Village have been repaved/paved in the last few years. Five Corners Park is undergoing a rehabilitation. Work at the new 500,000-gallon water tower is progressing and the tower is rising with completion expected in November. Phase 1 of the burial of electric wires underground along Main Street will commence in April; and Phase II will follow in March 2023. The Farmingdale Business Improvement District (BID) was formed in May 2021 - the first Long Island BID to be formed in over 2 decades! The Farmingdale BID promotes commerce for the businesses in the district and has been paying for commercials on News12, the BID can apply for grants, plans & funds parades, community events and more! Beautification: We love our Beautiful Plants; via our Beautification Committee! Thank you to Trustee Cheryl Parisi, the Village beautification committee volunteers, and the Fire Department and Juniors for the wonderful efforts decorating for the holidays and throughout the year!

I was happy to speak about the State of the Village at the February lunch meeting for the Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce at Croxley Ales. I am including some highlights of the speech here, however, many topics were included in the December Village Newsletter. Financial: The State of the Village is robust, not only financially, but with new businesses, as well as residents moving in! Our BOND RATING is the best it’s ever been. The revitalization in the Village has provided new housing options, attracted new merchants and retailers, while also offering employment opportunities. This has resulted in an influx of activity in the downtown, with merchant / storefront vacancies down. We have been within the 2% tax cap since its inception (over 10 years) and will continue to do so! Grants enormously help keep our spending down while improving quality of life, services, safety, infrastructure & beautification and more! • $1,450,000 Grant from NY State Senator Kevin Thomas ($500,000 for new water tower, $500,000 for Main St to bury electric wires, $450,000 – new ambulance, ambulance upgrade, gators - FVFD) • $150,000 Grant from Nassau County for 5 Corners Park Rehabilitation • $100,000 grant from Assemblyman Michael Montesano was utilized for reconstruction of Parking Lots • The Federal American Recovery plan, part of legislation passed by Congress, awarded the Village $919,525, to date the Village has received $449,762 (using for infrastructure) • Thank you to Senator Kevin Thomas, Michael Montesano, Nassau County, US Congress and to many other LOCAL

Shortly after, they expanded upon their services for youth and have grow to provide a multitude of programs for children, adults, and families through Federal, State, County and private funding streams.

The BRIDGES program also includes on site recovery support groups, drop-in hours and wellness/self-care workshops and it provides prevention programs and self-care workshops to staff, students and young adults at high schools, colleges and other organizations.

The CLCPA provides a road map for our state to reach a renewable energy economy, which will not only combat the devastation and unpredictability of the climate crisis but will lead to greater economic opportunity for New Yorkers as the state creates green jobs and invests in frontline communities.

Thriving communities for businesses to flourish: Thriving communities are good for business. According to the investment plan laid out by NY Renews, in addition to funding renewable energy investments, the $15 billion fund will also go towards improving public transit, public housing, and public schools, all necessary infrastructure for communities to succeed. Additional funding will go towards community-based organizations in neighborhoods most impacted by pollution and the climate crisis to fund local projects that increase our renewable energy supply, make homes and buildings more eﬃcient, and increase resilience to climate change. A signiﬁcant portion of this funding will go to low-income communities of color, which have received historically inadequate investments from the state and are most vulnerable to pollution and climate change. All of these investments will help New York communities thrive.

This is why we strongly encourage you to allocate, at minimum, $15 billion in climate, jobs, and justice funding in this year’s New York State budget. These funds will benefit businesses and the communities which we serve in a multitude of ways: Creating jobs and increasing spending power: Investing $15 billion yearly in climate, jobs, and justice will create and sustain 150,000 good-paying jobs over the next decade. Creating stable jobs in renewable energy, building eﬃciency, public transit, and supportive industries will grow New York’s economy and increase spending power. This is good for New Yorkers, and it’s good for business. New York has the opportunity to be a business leader in renewable energy speciﬁcally, creating these jobs here in our state rather than allowing other states to overtake us in this critical and growing market. All jobs created — in renewable energy and otherwise — are good news for New York.

It’s clear that this $15 billion investment makes good business sense for New York. We strongly encourage the governor and legislature to include this funding in this year’s New York State budget.

Stable investments in building a renewable energy economy: Under the CLCPA, New York must run on 100% renewable electricity by 2040, and our entire economy must be carbon-neutral by 2050. We have made pitiful progress: just 31% of our electric generation comes from renewable sources, and since 2019, we have reduced our economy-wide emissions by only 6%. Moreover, New York currently sends over $30 billion out of state every year to purchase fossil fuels. This lack of progress is concerning for businesses: we want to be able to count on a consistent energy transition along with — or faster than — the timeline outlined in the CLCPA. These payments will ensure working New Yorkers will have more spending power and more breathing room, which is good for business and good for our state.

It’s clear that New York needs significant and consistent funding allocations to meet the goals of the CLCPA and realize the benefits of the law for New Yorkers. Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilman Lou Imbroto invite residents to be “Freezin’ for a Reason” at the annual Polar Plunge benefitting the Special Olympics New York on Saturday, March 19th at TOBAY Beach. The event, originally scheduled for earlier in the month, will include COVID-safety protocols and pre-assigned time slots. “Many of our residents head to TOBAY Beach for summer fun, but this event provides an enjoyable and charitable reason to spend a great day at the beach much sooner,” said Supervisor Saladino. “Participants will have an opportunity to prove their mettle and their compassion by wading into the chilly waters of TOBAY Beach to raise funds for the athletes of Special Olympics New York.”

Town Announces Environmental Poster Contest For 4th Grade Students To raise awareness of pollution and its impact on Mother Nature, Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilwoman Vicki Walsh announced the return of the Town’s Environmental Poster Contest, open to all 4th grade students in the Town of Oyster Bay. This year’s poster contest, Our Town Our Environment, invites youngsters to create a poster depicting ‘How Plastic Pollution Harms our Waterways.’ “This poster contest

presents a great opportunity to bring environmental awareness to our young people, making them more knowledgeable on the importance of protecting our waterways and safeguarding our natural resources,” said Supervisor Saladino. Students should submit a poster to communicate awareness of how items of plastic litter harm our waterways by illustrating the problem of floatables in our waterways. Submissions should be made on large

poster paper, with the top three winning posters to be displayed at a Town facility and showcased in a future Town of Oyster Bay Environmental Newsletter. “This contest is being co-sponsored by The Waterfront Center and Friends of the Bay, two organizations that greatly contribute to our efforts in further protecting and preserving the environment. Both of these nonprofit organizations have been a huge asset in helping protect

our waterways,” said Councilwoman Walsh. “I invite all 4th grade students to participate in this great program, which provides a great opportunity to become more educated on the serious issue of plastic pollutions in our waterways with the potential of winning some great prizes.” Prizes will be awarded for the top three submissions, with 1st Place receiving a private tour of Oyster Bay Harbor aboard a Friends of the Bay vessel, $200 gift certificate for

the Waterfront Center in Oyster Bay, a tree planted at the winning student’s school for Arbor Day, a nautical trivia game, and Friends of the Bay apparel. Submission deadline for the contest is Friday, April 1st, with winners to be announced on Earth Day, April 22nd. Paws Of War Provides Long Island Veterans With Free Wellness Care Checkups For Their Service Animals

n support of their mission of giving back to veterans and first responders, non-profit Paws of War recently hosted their “Hearts and Heroes” event at their headquarters in Nesconset, where they provided 27 service animals with free veterinary care, which included wellness checks, flea and tick medications, vaccinations, bags of dog food and microchipping service. The pandemic has brought financial challenges to veterans and first responders Many

disabled veterans live on low or fixed incomes and their service animal’s medical care is essential so they can provide the level of support and comfort upon which the veterans depend. “As a former veteran, I know how critical and expensive it is to take care of these service animals. They are more than just pets; these animals provide emotional support and tasks for these heroes when it is needed most,” said Kelli Porti, Veteran & Community Outreach Liaison for Paws of War.

are responsible for their health and well-being and in many cases the lives of their owners. Volunteering my time and medical knowledge for Paws of War and their mobile clinic is my way to honor these veterans for all they have done for our country,” said Dr. Altieri. Hearts and Heroes is part of a continual program, Vets for Vets, hosted by

Paws of War that gives back to service men and women by providing free veterinary care for their service animals; their wellness is essential in providing their exceptional service to their owners who are U.S. military veterans suffering from the emotional effects of war.
