emotional and physical ability to experience the wish. Twilight Wish recipients report that having their wish granted impacted their life for the better. Their mental and physical health often improved, positively changing their outlook on life! The wishes that this organization grants truly changes the way that our society views aging, as it witnesses seniors living life to the fullest. By sharing their recipients’ stories, they inspire both older and younger generations and help bring about a cultural shift in how aging is perceived in our society. To date, the Twilight Wish Foundation has granted over 3,700 wishes throughout our country and multiple wishes have being granted on Long Island recently! These wishes have ranged from simple needs wishes, such as shaving razors for nursing home veterans, to living life to the fullest wishes, such as going cross country in a tractor trailer truck. This organization has continued to do their good work throughout this pandemic. Today they are still helping others and when going to grant a wish, they are taking all the necessary safety precautions. Safety is a top prioity at The Twilight Wish Foundation. There are many ways that you can get involved with this great organization. Stay tuned for next week’s article to learn some of the ways how. Fire Department to announce legislation to protect firefighters with the PFAS Firefighter Protection Act. For years, firefighters in New York and across the country, have been exposed to PFAS in the foam used to fight fires (aqueous film forming foam, AFFF) at training facilities, and in the protective clothing and gear they use. The use of the foam at fire fighter training facilities could also be a source of drinking water contamination nearby the facilities. Nassau County Executive stated that the Bethpage training site does not use PFAS chemicals. “I applaud Senator Gillibrand for putting forth this legislation to help clean up our environment and rid communities of these harmful chemicals once and for all. These “forever chemicals” not only migrate into our environment and pollute our drinking water, but can directly threaten first-responders who rely on wearing such equipment to save their lives. Nassau’s bravest shouldn’t have to trade their safety now for potentially harmful effects to their health later,” said Nassau County Executive Laura Curran. “It is critical that we have federal policies to reduce public exposure and protect our drinking water. We are delighted that Senator Gillibrand

is providing critical leadership in fighting to protect public health and our environment from this significant threat,” said Adrienne Esposito, Executive Director of Citizens Campaign for the Environment. Eradicating proven cancer causing PFAS from firefighting foam will help save the lives of our Firefighters and other First Responders. If the legislation is passed, the bill would prohibit using firefighting foam with PFAS and create a federal ban on the manufacture, importation and sale of firefighting foam with the chemical in it, within two years of enactment. This would also be a great benefit to groundwater and drinker water locally and across the United States! Personally we feel whatever we can do to protect the public and our Firefighting heroes is a great step forward! Please note that Farmingdale Village water is safe to drink and is being monitored for chemical contaminants. Just a reminder that Farmingdale Village Board of Trustees work sessions and Board Meetings are still held via remote video conference. T h e Twilight Wish Foundation is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization whose mission is to honor and enrich the lives of seniors through intergenerational Twilight Wish celebrations. Since the organization’s founding in 2003, their goal has been to make the world a nicer place to age, one Twilight Wish at a time. When a Twilight Wish is granted, a senior is recognized for all that they have done throughout their lives and is shown that they are appreciated and valued. Sometimes a wish fulfills an immediate need, and sometimes it is a last wish or lifetime dream. Large or small, all wishes provide a meaningful “thank you” to the senior for a lifetime of service to others. Every wish they grant helps build a culture that values and respects our senior population. The Twilight Wish Foundation has expanded throughout America and they currently have 17 chapters. The majority of their chapter directors and chapter volunteers have fulltime jobs, but volunteer their time because they believe so much in the impact Twilight Wish has on our senior population. Many seniors experience social isolation, which can lead to undesirable conditions. Granting a Twilight Wish can help change that! You can qualify for a Twilight Wish if you are at least 65 years old, are a legal U.S. citizen, demonstrate financial need, provide a history of giving back to others and possess the cognitive,

Here are a few excerpts from the survey: “92% were concerned that local businesses can’t sustain until the crisis is over and 96% said having vibrant downtowns is important to the quality of life here.” Additionally, “61% would like more outdoor restaurant space, 60% would like more landscaping and green space, and 57% would like more local artists and vendors in small stall-like displays.” Additionally local businesses and organizations should consider joining the local Chamber of Commerce, Rotary clubs and other organizations and stay involved in community efforts. Oyster Bay Town Councilman Tom Hand invites residents to take part in Co-Ed Recreational Programs for basketball, badminton, and volleyball beginning on April 5, 2021 at the Hicksville Athletic Center. Registration for the programs will take place at the Hicksville Athletic Center, 167 Broadway in Hicksville on: Monday, March 8th, from 5:30 pm to 9:30pm; Tuesday, March 9th, from 5:30pm to 9:30pm; and on Thursday, March 11th from 5:30pm to 9:30pm. All co-ed recreational programs are open to individuals 18 and over. “The Town’s spring coed recreational programs have consistently proven to be one of the most popular programs the Town offers each year. All of these recreational programs are open to residents ages 18 and older, and serve as a great opportunity to make new friends,” said Councilman Hand. “These programs will be a great way for residents to get in some exercise in a fun and safe setting with all proper restrictions and public health guidelines put into place in light of the ongoing pandemic.” Badminton will feature two sessions available for registrants to choose from. The first session consists of Tuesdays from 8:45 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.; Fridays from 8:45 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.; and Sundays from 7:00 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. The second session consists of Tuesdays from 9:45 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Fridays from 9:45 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., and Sundays from 8:00 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. The Badminton program is 10-weeks long and costs $75 for residents and $100 for non-residents, with the program scheduled to begin on April 6th, 2021. Basketball will feature three sessions available to choose from: Thursdays from 9:00 p.m. to 9:45 p.m.; Saturdays from 8:00
