The organization was formed in 1977 as a result of funding obtained from the Town of Oyster Bay, which enabled them to provide street outreach and job placement for youth. Shortly after, they expanded upon their services for youth and have grow to provide a multitude of programs for children, adults, and families through Federal, State, County and private funding streams. Some of their current programs and services are below: Counseling Services: YES CCC believe family involvement and assistance is an integral part of treatment for children, adolescents, and adults. After all, the greatest successes in treatment often occur when all family members recognize their role related to the presenting problem and are open to active participation in the healing and growing process. Available to residents within Nassau County Catchment Areas only. Addiction Services: Comprehensive treatment is available to children, adults and families facing the complex problems of chemical dependency, as well as DWI assessments and specialized recovery groups. Available to anyone. Early Intervention Project: This program offers prevention and early intervention services to teens and their families at the beginning stages of their alcohol or drug experimentation or abuse. Available to residents within Nassau County Catchment Areas only. School-Based Services: YES Community Counseling Center provides Social

Work services to elementary school aged students in various school districts. WISH Program: Women In Shared Healing (WISH) provides comprehensive services for community members who have been physically, sexually and/or emotionally abused, as well as those effected by or witness to domestic violence. Prevention Services: These services are provided to youth, families, parents and community groups and are designed to reduce individual, family and community level risk factors and increase protective factors. Available to residents within Nassau County Catchment Areas only. YES CCC provides a ﬁnancial literacy program called Commerce Plaza to students throughout Long Island at their Levittown location. This unique program immerses students in a simulated business community with hands-on experience by assigning them roles and tasks that replicate actual work experience. Students learn about leadership, budgeting, operating a business, banking skills, and teamwork. Since opening in May 2000, Commerce Plaza has hosted over 69,000 students from school districts on Long Island. Available to students in both Suffolk County and Nassau County. America’s Eight First Ladies From New York State

Of the 47 women who have served as America’s First Lady, eight, or almost 20 percent, were born in New York State. On Sunday, March 6, 2022, at 3:00 PM, historian Elizabeth Kahn Kaplan will introduce these eight very different women, each one about whom a fascinating tale can be told. Four recent First Ladies born in New York State are familiar to most of us; others, less well known, have stories that deserve to be heard. One was the daughter of a wealthy New York City Loyalist during the American Revolution. Nonetheless, she married a Patriot and Founding Father. Before her husband became President, she played a dramatic part in saving the wife of the Marquis de Lafayette from the guillotine. You will enjoy hearing answers to questions such as these: Who was known as “The Rose of Long Island” before marrying a President 30 years her senior? Which First Lady gave birth to a daughter whose name was affixed to a candy bar, still available in your local grocery store? Which First Lady consistently is ranked by historians at the top of the list? Mrs. Kaplan, an educator, writer, and lecturer, has written curriculum guides for the New-York Historical Society and for Stony Brook University.

She has presented programs at George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate & Gardens and at the International Spy Museum in Washington, D.C. This entertaining yet informative talk, being held at Farmingdale Village Hall at 361 Main Street in Farmingdale, will provide insight into the social, political, and economic differences among the eight intriguing women born in New York State whose husbands served as President of the United States. The lecture is presented by the Farmingdale-Bethpage Historical Society and the Farmingdale Village Cultural Arts Committee. The lecture is free to attend, and registration is required. The Long Island Pet Expo Is Back!

The Long Island Pet Expo returns for the first time since the outbreak of COVID on March 5-6, 2022, with fur flying entertainment, dog sporting competitions and educational programs designed for the whole family. The event returns to the Suffolk Federal Credit Union Arena and features many special attractions, pet adoptions and outstanding shopping for pet lovers and their pets. “The Long Island area is passionate about animals and pets of all kinds,” said show co-producer Karen Garetano of Family Pet Shows, which runs seven similar events in the northeast. “We are excited to be back in the area after a long, unplanned break. The number of pet licenses

in the region has almost doubled since the start of COVID, and the interest in the event seems to have doubled too based on our phones and social media activity.” The 80+ special exhibits always feature some of the hottest new products coming out often before they hit the retail shelves. Dogs on leashes are always welcome, and several area rescue groups with adoptable pets will be on hand. Popular performers and presenters include Diana Frohman and her beautiful Dancing Dogs. Assemblyman Durso Introduces Resolution Recognizing February 11, 2022 As P.S. I Love You Day Assemblyman Michael Durso (R-Massapequa Park) recently introduced a resolution on the floor of the Assembly honoring an extraordinary organization, P.S. I Love You Day Inc., and its founders, Jaimie and Brooke DiPalma, by recognizing February 11, 2022 as P.S. I Love You Day in New York State. On this day P.S I Love You Day asks everyone to stand up against bullying, help end depression, and ultimately prevent suicide. On April 23, 2010, then 14-year-old Brooke was dropped off at school by her dad, Joseph DiPalma. On her way out of the car, he said, “I Love You” and she said, “I Love You” back. Little did Brooke know, later that day, she would be

taken out of school and told that her dad tragically died by suicide. Joseph DiPalma was an active member in the community; a former NYPD officer, ex-Chief of the West Islip Fire Department, and President of his Local Chamber of Commerce. P.S. I Love You Day was started in 2010 by sisters Jaimie and Brooke DiPalma, along with their family and the West Islip High School Class of 2014, to celebrate the memory of their father and others lost to suicide. They used the last three words their father said, “I Love You”, as the inspiration for this significant day. Part of their mission is to educate students early about mental health in order to remove the stigma and let

them know it is okay to ask for help. This year P.S. I Love You Day celebrated its 12th Anniversary on Friday, February 11, 2022, in an effort to bring awareness to the importance of mental health and suicide prevention, to stand up to bullying, and to spread kindness. “I commend Jaimie and Brooke DiPalma, and P.S. I Love You Day, for their hard work and dedication advocating on the importance of mental health and encouraging those struggling to ask for help,” said Durso. “It is imperative that more work must be done on the local, State and National levels to offer resources, treatment and prevent another life lost to suicide.”

Long Island Blues Winter Classic Special Hockey Tournament Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino announced that the 11th Annual Town of Oyster Bay Long Island Blues Winter Classic will take place on Saturday, March 5th at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center. This special event showcases LI Blues hockey players with special needs enjoying a game they love verse three other teams from the tri-state area. The public is welcome to attend and admission is free of charge. The tournament will consist of six games that will take place throughout the day between the four teams. “The LI Blues is an inspiring hockey program in which children and young adults with developmental disabilities play ice hockey in a wonderful setting,” said Supervisor Saladino. “This LI Blues organization

brings all the fun of playing ice hockey to athletes with special needs, and this Winter Classic Tournament is the perfect way to highlight their inspirational stories. Labriola And Maier Urge Residents To Donate Blood As National Shortage Impacts Hospitals

With hospitals facing a nationwide blood shortage, Oyster Bay Town Councilman Steve Labriola and Town Councilwoman Laura Maier invite residents to attend a Blood Collection Drive on Thursday, March 10th from 1pm to 7pm at the Hicksville Athletic Center, located at 167 S. Broadway in Hicksville. Councilman Labriola stated, “Blood supplies have seriously dwindled as a result of the COVID-19 health pandemic and are critically needed for local hospitals to meet the demand and continue saving lives. Please consider participating in this blood drive to help bolster our blood banks and ensure as many

people as possible can be helped. Together, we can give the gift of life though a simple blood donation.” Appointments are preferred for the Town’s Blood Drive. To qualify as a donor, a person must be between the ages of 17 and 75 years old (16 with parental permission and 76 or older with a doctor’s note), weigh at least 110 pounds and not have donated blood within the last 56 days. Anyone who received a tattoo within the past 12 months is ineligible to donate. It is recommended that donors eat well (low fat) and drink fluids in the days before the Blood Drive. Additionally, all donors will receive a voucher for a free Blizzard at Dairy Queen.

Councilwoman Maier added, “It’s quick, easy, and safe to donate a single pint of blood which can save up to three lives. Hometown Heroes Recognition Applications Now Available Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilman Steve Labriola have announced that the Town will begin accepting applications for the 2022 Hometown Heroes’ Community Recognition Program. This initiative recognizes the service and sacrifice of the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces – both living and deceased – who are current or former Town of Oyster Bay residents. “My Town Board colleagues and I were amazed by the outpouring of support this program received in its first year by our incredible residents, businesses and local heroes,” said Councilman Labriola. “We are proud to return this important initiative to our communities and we look forward to further recognizing our veterans, active duty service members, and their families for their commitment to defend our freedoms and democracy.” Banners bearing the nominated individual’s name, rank, photograph and area of service will be unveiled throughout selected park facilities across the Town of Oyster Bay in the months leading up to Veterans Day in November 2022. Any interested individual or organization who would wish

to sponsor a banner can remit $75 to sponsor the production of a banner. No profit is made from this program. Once the banners are displayed, the Town will maintain the banners, and will remain on display until Veterans Day, where they will then be taken down to avoid any inclement winter weather and returned to the service family or their loved ones. Those who sponsored a banner last year are reminded to submit a new application in order to be included in the 2022 season. Applications must be received by March 11, 2022. Supervisor Saladino added, “This is an especially meaningful way to honor those who bravely and selflessly served our nation. Registration Opening For Town Youth Ice Hockey Spring Program Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilman Louis Imbroto announced that registration for the Town’s Youth Ice Hockey Program will get underway soon for boys and girls ages 6-16. In-person registration is March 7th and 8th at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating, where the program is run. “This recreational and instruction program is designed to give youngsters a great way to learn the correct fundamentals of one of America’s most popular sports,” said Supervisor Saladino. “In addition to receiving instruction on the proper techniques of skating, stickhandling and shooting, participants will make new friends and create lifelong memories.”

Residents interested in joining the Town of Oyster Bay’s Youth Hockey Program can register for the Spring 2022 Session in person from March 7th to March 8th at the Bethpage Ice Center, located at 1001 Stewart Avenue in Bethpage from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Registrants must bring a copy of their birth certificate, proof of Town of Oyster Bay residency (tax or utility bill) as well as payment. Check, money order, MasterCard or Visa will be accepted. All registrants must bring these items, even if they have participated in the past. A parent or legal guardian must be present at registration. “Youngsters enrolled in the Town’s Youth Ice Hockey program are given the great opportunity to improve their skating and hockey skills as

As a part of the Town’s commitment to digitizing services for the convenience of all, these online reservations are valid for picnics at Marjorie R. Post Community Park in Massapequa, Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park and Beach in Oyster Bay, Harry Tappen Beach and Marina in Glenwood Landing, SyossetWoodbury Community Park, and Plainview-Old Bethpage Community Park. “Our beautiful Town Parks are the perfect location for a

family, school, or community group outing set in the great outdoors. Each location, from Teddy Roosevelt Beach in Oyster Bay to Marjorie Post Park in Massapequa, offers something unique for residents to enjoy,” Councilman Hand said. “Thanks to the hard work of our Parks Department, the process to apply for a picnic permit has now been streamlined to increase convenience and accessibility for residents.” Picnic Permits are required for groups of 25 or more at all Town of Oyster Bay picnic pavilion locations and include exclusive use of the permitted area from 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Clothing Donations Needed For Long Island Children Ethical Friends of Children, a program helping needy families on Long Island, seeks clothing (tops, bottoms, pjs, sweaters and socks) in certain sizes. Specific sizes are: GIRLS: 3-4, 4-5 and 9-10 and BOYS: 7-8 and 9-10. Ethical Friends of Children is an outreach program of

the Ethical Humanist Society of Long Island., established in 1985. “We assist more than 2,500 children and their families each year by providing them clothing for children from newborn to size 12 as well as infant furniture at no cost,” says Pat Spencer of Port Washington.
