Happy 2022! Congratulations to the winners of the 2021 Farmingdale Holiday Lights Contest! The three winning homes were: 34 Stearns Court, 5 Clifford Drive and 123 Lockwood Avenue. Special thanks to the Farmingdale Village Cultural Arts Committee for running the contest. The committee, co-chaired by John Capobianco and Vicki Gruber, is busy planning community events for 2022. The Board of Trustees and myself are delighted to announce the return of community events downtown – save the dates and stay tuned for more updates. The St. Patrick’s Day Parade is set for March 13th and the Easter Egg Hunt/ Meet the Easter Bunny on April 9th! The Farmingdale School District announced that the Long Island Special Olympics Spring Games are coming to Farmingdale on May 21st. The Long Island Region of Special Olympics New York is planning its Spring Games North after a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic; and the Farmingdale Athletic Complex at Howitt Middle School is set to host the competition. Volunteers are needed for the event, visit the school district website for more details, www. farmingdaleschools.org. We would like to

remind residents if snow accumulation is over 2 inches there will be plowing, so please remove cars from the street throughout the Village; vehicles can be parked on Lawns and Driveways, but don’t block the sidewalks. Just a reminder that the Village Code is available on the Farmingdale Village website: www. farmingdalevillage.com, click “Village Code” below the header on the home page. The Village code is searchable (on the top right), check out the new laws posted, or browse through the sections / index. The following is an excerpt from the Village Code regarding Snow Emergencies (98-16) to remind and inform the community regarding snow emergencies. “All Village streets. The parking of vehicles is prohibited on all public highways for an eighteen-hour period upon declaration of a snow emergency by the Mayor. A snow emergency shall be deemed to exist, and the Mayor shall have the right to declare a snow emergency, from the time when there are at least two inches of snow on the ground.” During and after snow storms, our DPW department works diligently clearing our roads and parking lots in order to make roadways passable and to open the business district and enable commuters to get to work in the shortest time possible. We thank all of the DPW staff for their tireless efforts and truly appreciate their hard work and dedication! It’s a new year and we hope everyone is healthy! Trustee Walter Priestley ran the 50th NYC Marathon November 7th, 2021 and we are extremely proud of him! “The key to any successful endeavor is consistency. Start off small and build up to your goal! By the inch it is a cinch, by the mile it is a trial, by the yard it is hard. I trained for 5 months just increasing my mileage a little bit every week,” said Walter. The race spans across five boroughs and around 30,000 people competed/ran in the event. The winners of the marathon were Peres Jepchirchir and Albert Korir, both of Kenya. In March of 2019 Trustee Cheryl Parisi competed in the United Airlines Rock n Roll Marathon, ½ Marathon, 5K race in Washington DC and won her division! Urban Air Lake Grove, the only indoor adventure park of its kind on Long Island, will expand its hours of operation for the School Winter Break, February 19 to 26, 2022, to welcome kids and parents looking for indoor fun. Urban Air Lake Grove will be open for extended hours from Saturday, February 19 to Saturday, February 26 from 10am to 9pm, and Sunday, February 27 from 10 am to 8 pm (regular hours). Urban Air Lake Grove is located at 3147 Middle Country Road, Lake Grove, NY 11755. Urban Air Adventure Park is a unique destination for

Hometown Heroes Recognition Applications Now Available

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilman Steve Labriola have announced that the Town will begin accepting applications for the 2022 Hometown Heroes’ Community Recognition Program. This initiative recognizes the service and sacrifice of the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces – both living and deceased – who are current or former Town of Oyster Bay residents. “My Town Board colleagues and I were amazed by the outpouring of support this program received in its first year by our incredible residents, businesses and local heroes,” said Councilman Labriola. “We are proud to return this important initiative to our communities and we look forward to further recognizing our

veterans, active duty service members, and their families for their commitment to defend our freedoms and democracy.” Banners bearing the nominated individual’s name, rank, photograph and area of service will be unveiled throughout selected park facilities across the Town of Oyster Bay in the months leading up to Veterans Day in November 2022. Any interested individual or organization who would wish to sponsor a banner can remit $75 to sponsor the production of a banner. No profit is made from this program. Once the banners are displayed, the Town will maintain the banners, and will remain on display until Veterans Day, where they will then be taken down to avoid any inclement winter weather and returned to the service family or their loved ones.

Those who sponsored a banner last year are reminded to submit a new application in order to be included in the 2022 season. Applications must be received by March 11, 2022.
