EAGLE SCOUT MICHAEL SIMEONE HONORED - Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino recently honored Michael Simeone of Troop 261 in Farmingdale at his Court of Honor ceremony for recently achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. Eagle Scout is the highest honor a Boy Scout can achieve after completing hours of community service and attaining numerous merit badges. Supervisor Saladino proudly presented Michael, who was joined by Village of Farmingdale Mayor Ralph Ekstrand (far right) and members of his family and Troop, with a citation in recognition of his prestigious achievement, which only about 6% of all Boy Scouts attain.

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino today announced that the Town’s Department of Community and Youth Services will be offering free musical performances during the month of January 2020 at local libraries throughout the Town to continue the 20192020 Distinguished Artists Concert Series, which will continue to run monthly through May 2020. “The Town’s Distinguished Artists Concert Series has proven to be one of our most popular and

Farmingdale School District to Host Fifth Annual Districtwide Wellness Event event—sponsored by the Wellness Council. “We’re encouraging our students and parents to unplug for a few hours and join us for a really fun evening,” said Dr. Joan Ripley, Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning. “All the activities we have planned are geared toward helping people create healthy habits that will last
them a lifetime. It’s a great way for everyone to start the new year!” The program will run from 6pm-8:15pm, with registration at 6pm and activities beginning at 6:30pm sharp. Free, healthy snacks will be provided. All students must be accompanied by an adult.
Supervisor Joseph Saladino today announced that applications are now available for families to add the names of loved ones to the Town of Oyster Bay’s 9/11 Walls of Honor which recognize all those with a connection to the Town who gave their lives and succumbed in their battle against 9/11 related cancers and illness. Each year, the Town inscribes into the Walls of Honor the names of family members, friends and neighbors lost to this toxic legacy. Supervisor Saladino stated, “We remember and give thanks to those who ran into danger in order to help the victims of a cowardly act of terror. This includes first responders, downtown workers, residents, students and so many others with cancer certified to be
9/11-related. The events of 9/11 continue to take our heroes and survivors – and members of our community will continue to face darker days ahead. We watch each week as more of these heroes pass, in an ever-increasing and unending number. Just as many of these rescue and recovery heroes raced to the Towers the first minute the plane hit, and stayed until the last brick was turned, their memorial stands with and lead us to those we lost that tragic Tuesday morning.” Reports from the World Trade Center Health program indicate that we are approaching a terrible milestone, in which approximately 43,000 people are being treated for medical problems and nearly 10,000 people have suf-
fered cancers linked to the toxic exposure at Ground Zero. More than 2,500 responders and others affected have succumbed to their illness. The 9/11 Walls of Honor were constructed under an initiative led by Supervisor Saladino, the Town Board and a volunteer committee that includes retired FDNY EMS Lieutenant Bill Gleason, Retired NYPD Detective Tom Luberto, Deacon Dave White, Jericho Fire Commissioner Frank Sammartano, North Massapequa Fire Commissioner Ralph Raymond, Massapequa Fire Commissioner Justin McCaffrey and Rescue & Recovery Worker Joseph Pinto. Individuals interested in registering for the 2020 Spring Youth Ice Hockey Program must bring a copy of their birth certificate, proof of Town of Oyster Bay residency (tax or utility bill) as well as payment. A parent or legal guardian must be present at registration. The program is held on Sunday mornings, and Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Registration fees are as follows: *6U: $225 for one child being registered, $175 for each additional
child from same family ($325 for non-residents) *8U, 10U, 12U, & 16U: $350 for one child being registered, $300 for each additional child from same family ($450 for non-residents) All participants must provide their own equipment, and should have some skating ability. Games will be played at all three Town rinks, with game schedules being distributed in February. Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Town Board today announced that the Town of Oyster Bay, in conjunction with the National Hockey League’s New York Rangers, will host a special “Try-Hockeyfor-Free Program” on Sunday, February 15th, from 9am to 11:30am, at the state-of-the-art Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center in Bethpage. The event will allow children, ages 5 through 9, a unique opportunity to explore the sport of ice hockey. In addition, time will be set aside for photo opportunities and autographs. “This is a great NHL program that provides local children the opportunity to explore the exciting sport of ice hockey under the watchful eye of professional,” said Supervisor Saladino. “This free session provides

The YMCA of Long Island is a leading non-profit organization that works daily to improve lives through programs and services that nurture youth, foster healthy living and inspire social responsibility. Simply put, their mission is to improve the quality of life of children, adults and families through programs that develop body, mind and spirit. The Y of Long Island has many different branches: East Hampton, Patchogue, Holtsville, Huntington, Bay Shore and Glen Cove. They also run the Boulton Center for the Performing Arts in Bay Shore and the YMCA Family Services (a counseling center) in Holtsville. This January they kicked off their Annual Support Campaign, which provides scholarships to children, teens, adults, seniors and families in need. Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino announced today that the 10th Annual Town of Oyster Bay Long Island Blues Winter Classic will take place on Saturday, January 25th. This special event showcases LI Blues hockey players with special needs enjoying a game they love verse three other teams from the tri-state area. The public is welcome to attend and admission is FREE. The tournament will consist of six games that will take place throughout the day between the four teams. “The LI Blues is an inspiring hockey program in which children and young adults with developmental disabilities play ice hockey in a wonderful setting,” said Supervisor Saladino. “This LI Blues organization brings all the fun of playing ice hockey to athletes with

Toddler Arts & Crafts Program Oyster Bay Town Councilwoman Michele Johnson announces that a Toddler Arts & Crafts Program will be offered during the months of February and March. This 6-week program offers classes at the Town’s Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center Community Room and Hicksville Athletic Center, and is open to children ages 2 through 4. Registration is now, from 9 am to 3 pm, at the Town’s Parks Department Recreation Office in Town Hall South, 977 Hicksville Rd, in Massapequa. “The Town’s Toddler Arts & Crafts program is a wonderful way to help support your toddler’s development
through nurturing their artistic expression,” said Councilwoman Johnson. “Classes fill up quickly on a first-come, first-serve basis, so register today!” The Toddler Arts & Crafts Program is 6 weeks in duration, beginning February 11th, and residents who sign their toddler up for the program must choose one class per week, per child. Classes will take place on Tuesdays at 10am (two year olds only); Tuesdays at 11am (three and four year olds); Wednesdays at 10am (two year olds only); Wednesdays at 11am or 1:30pm (three and four year olds); Thursdays at 10am (two year olds only); and Thursday at 11am (three and four year olds).
Each class is approximately 30 minutes to an hour long. The cost of the program is $25 per child who is a Town resident, and $30 per child whose care giver is a Town resident but not the child. Space is limited and upon registration, the child’s birth certificate and a tax or utility bill will be required to validate age and proof of residency. A guardian must be present during the class. A smock and supplies will be provided with enrollment. The Toddler’s Arts & Crafts Program is run by the Town’s Parks Department, Recreation Division.
