The Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center is located at 1001 Stewart Avenue in Bethpage. Individuals interested in registering for the 2021 Winter Youth Ice Hockey Program must bring a copy of their birth certificate, proof of Town of Oyster Bay residency (tax or utility bill) as well as payment. Check,

money order, MasterCard or Visa will be accepted. All registrants must bring these items, even if they have participated in the past. A parent or legal guardian must be present at registration. The program is held on Sunday mornings, and Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. The registration fee is $150 for 10 weekly sessions. All participants must provide their own equipment, and should have some skating ability. Oyster Bay Town Councilman Louis Imbroto recently announced that Session 2 of the Town’s 2021 Winter Youth Ice Hockey Program will begin on February 6th. This youth hockey program features hockey development, skill programs and a seasonend skills competition over the course of 10 weeks at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center in Bethpage. Angels of Long Island is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization ran by Debbie and Brittany, a mother and daughter duo. They turned a small Facebook group into a fast growing non-profit organization that helps countless Long Islanders in need. Their non-profit continued to grow so much so that Debbie and Brittany decided to open up a storefront location in Patchogue called Angels of Long Island. Their slogan Neighbors helping neighbors is a great reflection of what this thriving thrift store/boutique/donation center does. “We work so hard to keep our store clean and beautiful so that all of our customers who walk through our doors feels a sense of dignity and respect shopping at our store,” says Debbie. “We are not like your average thrift store! We carry designer brands and offer a unique experience.” The mission of this non-profit is to assist and advocate for people in our Long Island community who are in need of assistance. Their goal is to empower people to overcome poverty and live prosperous lives. They truly provide a wide range of services and goods to people in crisis, however anyone can come shop at their Patchogue store, which has recently expanded, located at 350-23 East Main Street. The store is proud to take many types of donations. They now accept bottle and can donations every Monday-Saturday from 9AM-3PM, where you can simply pull up curbside, pop your trunk and a team member will take the donations for you. All bottles and cans must be marked New York state deposit and no broken glass bottles are able to be accepted. Please remember to separate glass items from plastic items before you donate them. Pickups at your residence are available for large quantities of recyclables. Additionally, they accept other donations, such as new or gently used clothing, housewares, home decor and

furniture. All proceeds from this store go directly to help Long Island residents in need. If you have some free time on your hands and are comfortable volunteering at the store, please contact Debbie at 631.205.3458. During this pandemic, Angels of Long Island is short staffed and looking for help. Their store is cleaned every morning and masks are required there. Please only consider volunteering if you are not showing any covid symptoms. Everyone’s safety is their first priority. Lastly, every Saturday until further notice, Angels of Long Island will team up with Carroll’s Kitchen, another Long Island based non-profit. Together they will be handing out gourmet to-go meals for free to anyone who stops by the Angels’ Patchogue store when the meals are available (please visit the Angels of Long Island Facebook page for meal arrival updates). Anyone is welcome to come and let a team member know how many dinners you need. The meals are distributed via curbside pickup. “So many people are out of work,” says Debbie. “If we can help their budget a ltitle by providing a meal for their family, it thrills me!” I personally would like to thank both nonprofit organizations for making a difference on our island, touching the hearts of those in need and having a smile on your faces while doing so! “Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done.” Proverbs 19:17

Memorial Honors Victims of 9/11 Illness

Supervisor Joseph Saladino recently announced that applications are now available for families to add the names of loved ones to the Town of Oyster Bay’s 9/11 Walls of Honor which recognize all those with a connection to the Town who gave their lives and succumbed in their battle against 9/11 related cancers and illness. Each September, the Town unveils newly inscribed names into the Walls of Honor which recognize the family members, friends and neighbors lost to this toxic legacy. Supervisor Saladino stated, “We remember and give thanks to those who ran into danger in order to help the victims of a cowardly act of terror. This includes first responders, downtown workers,

residents, students and so many others with cancer certified to be 9/11-related. The events of 9/11 continue to take our heroes and survivors – and members of our community will continue to face darker days ahead. We watch each week as more of these heroes pass, in an everincreasing and unending number. Just as many of these rescue and recovery heroes raced to the Towers the first minute the plane hit, and stayed until the last brick was turned, their memorial stands with and lead us to those we lost that tragic Tuesday morning.” Reports from the World Trade Center Health program indicate that we are approaching a terrible milestone, in which approximately 43,000 people are being treated for medical problems and

10,000 people have suffered cancers linked to the toxic exposure at Ground Zero. More than 2,500 responders and others affected have succumbed to their illness. The 9/11 Walls of Honor were constructed under an initiative led by Supervisor Saladino, the Town Board and a volunteer committee that includes retired FDNY EMS Lieutenant Bill Gleason, Retired NYPD Detective Tom Luberto, Deacon Dave White, Jericho Fire Commissioner Frank Sammartano, North Massapequa Fire Commissioner Ralph Raymond, Massapequa Fire Commissioner Justin McCaffrey and Rescue & Recovery Worker Joseph Pinto. Curran Joins Student-Run COVID Response Group for PPE Donation Nassau County Executive Laura Curran was joined by members of LI Laboring Against COVID-19 (LILAC) and Legislator Debra Mule to donate personal protective equipment for medical staff at Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital. The donation consisted of 14,000 three-ply masks, 4,000 KN95 masks, 200 isolation gowns, 2,000 PPE kits, and boxes of hand sanitizer. LILAC is a student-run organization founded by Syosset High School student Sabrina Guo, 15. The organization has provided personal protective equipment and other forms of relief and support, such as lunch meals, for medical staff and frontline workers across Long Island since its founding in March. The External Diploma Program offers adults 21 and over, the opportunity to receive credit for their life experiences, and earn a high school equivalency diploma without the challenge of taking lengthy timed examinations. EDP, is a competency based program for students who are unable to attend classes or who prefer to work at home. Successful candidates for EDP include former ESL students, students who have been out of school for prolonged periods of time, or students who fare better without the structure of tests. THE REAL ESTATE MARKET IS ON FIRE Buyers are not staying home watching football on these cold January 2021 days. In fact, Buyers never stopped looking during the holidays and are continuing to attend Open Houses to purchase a home. I had an Open House Jan 3 and 21 families waited patiently while social distancing to see the home. An offer was emailed to me before the end of the Open House. Two additional offers came in that day. I verified all information provided with each prospective Buyer’s lender. I presented all offers to the Sellers. They chose the Buyers that they believe are most financially qualified and could move within the Sellers timeframe.The moral of the story is have your credit in good shape, get preapproved and find the right realtor to work with you. Don’t waste your time, so before looking at homes, view the pictures and video, if available, and look on a map to see where the home is located. If you can, drive by to see if the home is on a high traffic street or a passive steet where only those living on the street are driving by. Know your most important criteria. With your agent, do your home work including verification of the taxes, prior to seeing the home.
