ART STUDENTS PAINT THE TOWN - On a recent frigid Saturday, Weldon E. Howitt Middle School art teacher Barbara Ginexi brought several of her 8th grade Studio Arts students into Farmingdale Village to decorate abandoned storefronts with colorful winter scenes. Generous parents stopped by to offer them hot coffee and extra gloves as they created scenes of snowmen and igloos. “They came together to help beautify their community,” said Ms. Ginexi. “It was a great experience for the students and they did a fantastic job!” Left to right: Weldon E. Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino today announced that the Town’s Department of Community and Youth Services will be offering free musical performances during the month of January 2020 at local libraries throughout the Town to continue the 20192020 Distinguished Artists Concert Series, which will continue to run monthly through May 2020. “The Town’s Distinguished Artists Concert Series has proven to be one of our most popular and enduring programs, as residents flock from all across the Town to see the free musical and dance performances scheduled each MARINE IS ON A MISSION - The Marines live by the motto of never leaving month for the enjoyment anyone behind. The Charity of the Month for January is: YMCA Long Island www.ymcali.org

Throughout our local communities many people have heard of the YMCA of Long Island but don’t realize all that they do. From education to exercise, volunteerism to volleyball, preventative health to preschool, the Y doesn’t just strengthen bodies, but it also strengthens communities through programs. The YMCA of Long Island is truly a leading nonprofit organization that works daily to improve lives through programs and services that nurture youth, foster healthy living and inspire social responsibility. Simply put, their mission is to improve the quality of life of children, adults and families through programs that develop body, mind and spirit. They welcome people of all ages, from all walks of life and from all backgrounds to join them in making communities stronger and making Long Island a better place to live, work and play! In 2019, the organization celebrated 100 Years of Transforming Lives and is excited to continue to do so in 2020 and beyond. The Y of Long Island has many different branches: East Hampton, Patchogue, Holtsville, Huntington, Bay Shore and Glen Cove. They also run the Boulton Center for the Performing Arts in Bay Shore and the YMCA Family

Services (a counseling center) in Holtsville. This January they kicked off their Annual Support Campaign, which provides scholarships to children, teens, adults, seniors and families in need. These scholarships provide access to the YMCA for membership, programs and services such as swim lessons, pre-school in 11 school districts across the island, before and after school, summer day camp, health and wellness programs and chronic disease prevention and recovery programs such as LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA for cancer survivors, Moving for Better Balance, a fall prevention program, EnhanceFitness for people with arthritis and more. The YMCA of Long Island offers so much and can make a large difference in your life or the life of others. Registration for their winter programs begins on January 19th. Maybe 2020 is the year for you or someone you know to jump in and get involved in a great organization like the Y?
