Food For Hope Reception Islip Food for Hope held a reception luncheon attended by community and business leaders and elected ofﬁcials at Town Hall, marking the kick-off to the organization’s 37th season of giving. Since 1982, Islip Food for Hope has been dedicated to eliminating hunger in the Town of Islip. “Islip Food for Hope reaches more people in need every year,” said Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter. “The hundreds of Thanksgiving Day ‘Boxes

of Love’ and turkeys, distributed throughout the Town to those in need, shows the impact Food for Hope has on the community,” added the Supervisor. On October 23, 2019 Islip Food for Hope will host The Islip Thanksgiving Breakfast from 8 am-9 am at the Mansion at Timber Point Country Club in Great River. This breakfast custom, which began almost 37 years ago as the Supervisor’s Breakfast, continues to grow and provide more families

each year with the hope and the comfort of a traditional holiday meal. Because hunger isn’t seasonal, the organization has begun hosting additional events and reaching out to corporations and foundations for support. In addition, this past spring, Islip Food for Hope hosted the 7th Annual Community Picnic, which fed more than 850 guests and donated countless meals to numerous food pantries within the Town.

The Cemetery of Lost Souls is a grass roots organization that gears up each year to create an elaborate Haunted House on the founder’s property, located at 350 Broadway in Massapequa Park. Every bit of money raised through their annual e v e n t (admission, donations, sponsorships, etc.) is given to a chosen charity. They have raised a lot of money over the years in donations alone and have donated to charities such as Autism Speaks, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Ronald McDonald House Charities and Long Island Cares. This year they will bring the community a new interactive experience with the second Lost Souls Walk-Thru haunt, new rooms, new scares and new thrills! The event will run on October 18-19, 25-26, 31 and November 1-2 from 7PM-11:30PM. The chosen charity for 2019 is Melissa’s Wish, a non-profit organization founded with the purpose of providing short term, non-medical financial aid in the form of a grant to caregivers who are assisting those afflicted with a serious illness, injury or end of life event. You can become involved with the Cemetery of Lost Souls in many ways. They are actively looking for volunteers in the following areas: Digital Marketing (to help with social media marketing), Scare Team Members (actors to help put on the event), Security (watching over the event and making sure all guests are safe), and Bake Team Members (to donate baked

Special 911 Anniversary Speaker Keep Islip Clean recently hosted Martin Bellew to speak about his experiences with search, investigation and cleanup of Ground Zero from the immediate aftermath of the World Trade Center attacks to removal of all material ten months later. Mr. Bellew, who is currently the Commissioner for Islip’s Department of

Environmental Control, was the Director of the NYC Sanitation Department’s Bureau of Waste Disposal Engineering at the time of the attacks. The immense job of removing all debris to the Fish Kills Landfill was made more difficult by the search for clues and victims’ remains. The task involved coordination with Federal, State and local officials, including the

FBI. His lecture included previously unpublished photos from this work. “It was clear to me after the presentation that Commissioner Bellew’s knowledge and leadership is the reason an impossible task was brought to a successful conclusion,” said Nancy Cochran, Executive Director of Keep Islip Clean. Kicking-Off Breast Cancer Awareness Month Northwell Health, in collaboration with Babylon and Islip towns, kicked off Breast Cancer Awareness Month and their inaugural “Pink by the Bay” program by lighting the town hall cupolas pink. “Pink by the Bay” encourages communitybased organizations and businesses on Main Street from East Islip to Babylon to light and decorate their storefronts pink, as well as offer patrons educational literature about breast cancer prevention and detection. The program is a month-long effort that will promote breast cancer awareness while beneﬁtting community breast cancer coalitions organized by Northwell Health’s Imbert Cancer Center and Southside Hospital – both in Bay Shore – and Northwell Imaging at Great South

Bay in Islip. Participating businesses and community-based organizations received a starter kit, which included breast cancer literature, pink lights, window decorations and clings as well as chalk to help them decorate storefronts. Breast cancer is the second most commonly diagnosed cancer among American women. “It is the Town of Babylon’s privilege to partner with Northwell Health and the Town of Islip to raise awareness for the ﬁght against breast cancer with the ‘Pink by the Bay’ campaign. Please honor those we have already lost from this disease by getting checked annually,” said Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer. “We’re proud to partner with the Town of Babylon and Northwell Health for
