70 YEARS OF SERVICE - On Monday, September 16, 2019 Legislator Tom Cilmi had the privilege of honoring Honorary Chief “Coach” Richard Eccleston as he received his stripes for 70 years of service to the Islip Fire Department.

The Twilight Wish Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to honor and enrich the lives of seniors through intergenerational Twilight Wish celebrations. Since the foundation’s founding in 2003, their goal has been to make the world a nicer place to age, one Twilight Wish at a time. When a Twilight Wish is granted, a senior is recognized for all that they have done throughout their lives and is shown that they are appreciated and valued. This organization truly makes a difference in the lives of seniors nationwide. Often the elderly gets overlooked or they simply can’t seem to achieve their goals on their own. This is where Twilight Wish steps in. Judy was a local wish recipient from Kings Park. Her wish was to visit her mother in Rochester and take her to her favorite restaurant. The Suffolk County Department of Health Services and the Town of Islip will offer free rabies vaccinations for dogs, cats and ferrets on Saturday, September 28, 2019, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Brookwood Hall located at 50 Irish Lane in East Islip, NY. Although the clinic is available to all county residents, the quantity of vaccine is limited and available only while supplies last. All dogs must be on leashes and all cats and ferrets must be in carriers. Rabies, a deadly disease caused by a virus that attacks the central nervous system, is most often seen among wild animals such as raccoons, bats, skunks and foxes, but any mammal can be infected with rabies. Pets and livestock can get rabies if they are not vaccinated to protect them against infection. New York State and Suffolk County laws require that all dogs, cats and ferrets be vaccinated against rabies. AMVETS LADIES AUXILIARY TEA PARTY - A wonderful afternoon was had by all at the Annual Amvets Ladies Auxiliary tea party held at Post 18 in East Islip on September 15. ROMEO RECEIVES EAGLE SCOUT HONORS - Legislator Steven J. Flotteron recognized Islip High School senior, Nicholas A. Romeo, for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout as a Boy Scout of Troop 96 in Wantagh. Romeo joined Boy Scouts in 2008 as a Tiger Cub where he met his first Eagle Scout. He knew he wanted to reach the same level in scouting and worked hard to meet his goal. His Eagle Scout project was done at Suffolk Archers Archery Club in Huntington. He organized having all the bows and arrows either fixed or replaced for their youth program. He also had a shed built to house their archery equipment properly and safely as well as having their American Flag garden redone.

An apple a day may keep the doctor away, but a recent study found drinking tea might keep the cardiologist at bay.

The USDA reported that men and women who drank black tea for three weeks reduced their total and bad

cholesterol (LDL) levels by an average of 7.5 percent. Researchers concluded that drinking tea may reduce the

risk of coronary heart disease. Antioxidants called flavonoids, found in both green and black teas, are thought to

be potent weapons in the fight against heart disease. That news may be especially important

for women, given that heart disease kills more women than all forms of cancer combined including breast cancer.
