Organics Today Farm is a small organic farm is East Islip, which grows non GMO organic produce that you can trust. Their farm stand is open to the public every day. They are proud to have made it through the pandemic and continue to serve their community today. “Just a year ago supermarkets were running out of meat, poultry and produce. Bethel Hobbs Community Farm is a non-profit organization with a rich history. It is an 11 acre farm, located at 178 Oxhead Road in Centereach, and is ran entirely by volunteers. This community farm grows and harvests an average of over 50,000 pounds of fresh, organic produce, which then gets donated to over 11 food pantries / soup kitchens. They also offer CSA Memberships, educational programs, they host community events and they have a seasonal farm stand! If you live nearby the farm and would like to sign up for their Summer and or Fall CSA program, you can. Their crop shares are an easy way to guarantee farm fresh veggies for you and your family all season long. By joining their CSA program you will gain a connection to their farm and know exactly where your vegetables are coming from. You will receive a weekly share of nutritionally dense produce grown right in Centereach, while supporting your own neighbors. Their organically grown vegetables are harvested and packed the same day you receive them, cutting time and travel dramatically from field to fork. Members of their Summer CSA can expect to receive a wide variety of summer vegetables, including but not limited to, summer squashes, tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, cucumbers and a diverse array of greens. Members of their Fall CSA can expect to receive an assortment of winter squashes, potatoes, sweet potatoes, onions, carrots, beets, as well as an assortment of greens. Additionally, anyone is welcome to stop by and shop at their farm stand every Saturday from 10 AM - 3 PM, which started on June 12th and runs through October 10th. You will find organically grown produce and every purchase made will support the farm and their mission. Looking to show your support in another way? Volunteers are needed! Depending on the season, Bethel Hobbs Community Farm has a variety of farm work that volunteers

can assist with, such as planting, weeding, harvesting, working in the greenhouse and property maintenance. Individuals and groups are able to volunteer at the farm and community service hours can be given. If you are interested in volunteering, please visit their website and ﬁll out their Volunteer Waiver Form and the contact the farm directly at 631.774.1556 to ﬁnd out when you can start! Due to the pandemic, volunteers must bring a pair of gloves. It it suggested that volunteers bring sunscreen and any food or drink they may need. Lastly, the farm is in need of some repairs; they need a new roof on their barn, plumbing assistance and fountain repair. If you or someone you know would be willing to donate their time and skills to assist in any of these projects, it would be such a blessing to their farm. have been working nonstop to fulfill that commitment. PSEG Long Island continues to make strategic investments to serve our customers today and in the future.” IT Systems Enhance-ments and Testing Success PSEG Long Island has continued to make enhancements to its IT systems and has conducted robust testing of the outage management and telephony systems. Last week, PSEG Long Island completed a successful end-to-end test of the version 5.5 outage management and telephony systems in an extreme weather scenario. This end-to-end test is in addition to other successful tests, which included one simulating up to 90% of the customer base reporting outages over a 24hour period. Business Continuity and Emergency Procedures PSEG Long Island updated its business continuity and emergency procedures to reflect changes and updates

St. Mark’s Episcopal Church To Host Camp Color

A Free Humanities Enrichment Workshop For Middle School Students It’s often said that some of the best ideas are born of necessity and that’s certainly the case with “Camp Color: Summer HumanitiesEnrichment for Middle School Students.” The plan began to gel when teachers Nadine Palumbo and Anthony Vittorino were discussing the detrimental effects of social distancing guidelines, hybrid learning, and a loss of extracurricular activities. “We each witnessed formerly engaged students shutting down and checking out emotionally by turning off their cameras screens and becoming passive,” said Palumbo, adding that “Countless family friends have also addressed concerns about their children’s ‘pandemic slide’ and feelings of depression.” They started testing out different formats, such as a distance-learning talk show to interview artists and authors about their creative

process during the pandemic, but that seemed better suited only for high school level remote learning. Palumbo and Vittorino felt the challenges of the past year were particularly harmful to middle school students since, “They will be making a key transition from elementary to secondary school,” said Palumbo, who also serves on the vestry at St. Mark’s as well as on the Bishop’s Council for the Diocese of Long Island. ...AND SO CAMP COLOR WAS BORN... A three-day workshop, from July 6 through July 8 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m, middle school-aged kids, grades five through eight, will explore their creativity and build social interaction skills. It will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 754 Montauk Highway, Islip, NY 11751. The program will feature scavenger hunts, art projects,

nature studies and will also have guest speakers, such as Ollie Bouler, author and illustrator of Olivia’s Birds. Bouler who, at the age of 11, created an illustrated field guide of birds and raised over $200,000 for the wildlife affected by the Exxon oil spill in 2010, will conduct a drawing demonstration to gift every camper with a copy of the book. Hosted by St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Islip, NY and funded by a grant from Episcopal Ministries, it is expected to continue by traveling to Episcopal churches throughout Long Island and Queens so that “we can reach as many children as possible,” said St. Mark’s Rector, Richard E. Simpson. The program is free. Space is limited to 10-12 kids per workshop. circuit installed between the Riverhead and Canal substation A transmission circuit upgraded between the Wildwood and Riverhead substations Storm Hardening Programs Completed Since the implementation of the FEMA-funded stormhardening program funded in 2014, PSEG Long Island has completed storm hardening and reliability work on more than 450 miles of distribution mainline circuits. Storm-

hardened circuits have seen a significant reduction in storm damage and 42% fewer outages. PSEG Long Island is proud to continue its storm hardening work with Power On, an initiative started in the spring of 2020 that will continue to improve reliability by strengthening distribution lines, targeting the most vulnerable circuits across Long Island and the Rockaways. Since the launch, an additional 59 miles of

distribution mainline circuits have been storm hardened with stronger poles, thicker wire and other modern equipment. Work on the first circuits began in April 2020 and will continue over the next five years. To further protect against storm damage to the energy grid, arborists from PSEG Long Island’s Tree Trimming program work throughout the year to identify and trim tree limbs in rights of way and along easements that could potentially cause outages

during or after a storm. In 2020, PSEG Long Island removed more than 8,000 hazardous trees and/or large limbs along the distribution and transmission system and trimmed 2,400 miles of distribution and transmission line clearance in accordance with the industry best practice clearance standard. This standard preserves the health of the tree and directs future growth away from power lines. In addition, a new vine mitigation program identified, cut and

treated more than 4,000 vine locations across Long Island and the Rockaways. PSEG Long Island also prepares its dedicated workforce for summer by conducting annual hurricane and tropical storm drills and employee training; by developing emergency summer operating plans; and by performing summer-peak reliability analyses to ensure there is sufficient capacity to meet electric demand on high-heat days.
