Little Flower Children and Family Services of New York (Little Flower) is a human services organization that transforms caring into action to deliver services, programs and direction to improve the lives of children and families in crisis and people with developmental disabilities across New York City and Long Island.
One of this organization’s oldest and largest programs is its family foster care program, which has served children and families throughout New York City and Long Island since 1952. Little Flower is committed to finding safe and nurturing homes for children and young adults that are unable to remain home with their families because they believe every child should have guidance, stability and love.

Little Flower strives to meet the immediate needs of children entering foster care by partnering with dedicated foster parents who bring experience and skills in supporting children experiencing trauma. Potential foster parents undergo a thorough application and screening process, complete training, and participate in a home study before becoming a foster parent. The Little Flower team provides ongoing support and services to foster parents to ensure they can create the most nurturing environment for the foster children in their care. Additionally, Little Flower partners with foster parents and children’s families to support the children while their family receives the support and services they need to safely parent upon the child’s return from foster care. They also work with extended family to find relatives or other permanent homes for children who cannot safely return to their parents. This
For children requiring specialized care, Little Flower offers a Therapeutic Foster Boarding Home (TFBH) program based on their Wading River campus that works with children placed in foster care through Nassau or Suffolk County. Therapeutic foster parents are provided with additional training and certification to best care for the specialized needs of the foster children in their home. In addition to providing temporary care for children in a safe and nurturing environment, foster parents work closely with the organization’s social work team and the child’s parents in support of family reunification or permanency planning and ensure children are available to attend family visits. Foster parents model positive behavior, provide guidance and positive experiences, as well as support educational, dental, medical, and mental health needs of the child. Little Flower is proud to partner with such compassionate individuals willing to help children in need thrive and reach their full potential. Vivian M., a foster parent with Little Flower for more than 13 years, shared that she became a foster parent because she “loves children and wanted to make a difference.”

Little Flower was founded in 1929 by Catholic priest Monsignor Bernard Quinn who came to Wading River, Long Island, looking for a haven for the youth of his parish in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, that were excluded from programs and services at the time. Since then, Little Flower has grown and adapted to address the unmet needs of thousands of children, families and individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities.

St. Mark’s Episcopal Church In Islip To Hold Food Donation Project/Health Fair Continued From 9 food donation projects since 2020. When inquired about their energetic and faithful activity in these food drives, we were told that “as health professionals, we have to be aware also of social, psychological and malnutrition issues.” To make it even more
interesting, donation participants will be able to enter a raffle for products and certificates from Hand & Stone Day Spa for men and women. The public-at-large is encouraged to donate to this non-sectarian event. The event will be held rain or shine; if sunny it will be in front of the church doors on Montauk
Highway and St. Mark’s Lane. People will sign in and be escorted to the Health Fair. If it rains, it will be held in the office building; drive a few feet on St. Mark’s Lane, turn right on the driveway and go all the way down to the triple doors. All donations go to God’s Provision, an
affiliate of LI Cares-The Harry Chapin Book Bank. God’s Provision, run by Dana Jahn, distributes food to pantries at churches, shelters and senior communities throughout Long Island. People are urged to donate non-perishable foods such as: pasta, rice, beans, peanut butter, jelly, cereal,
mac and cheese, juice boxes, crackers, cookies, salt, pepper, cake/ brownie mixes, canned frosting, canned tuna and chicken, stove-top stuffing, bottled fruitflavored drinks, oil and vinegar, soup, canned gravy, tomato sauce, condensed milk, pudding (boxed, not prepared) jello, apple sauce,
canned vegetables and fruit, cleaning supplies, laundry supplies, tissues, TP, paper towels, kidfriendly treats, toiletries, (non-perishable) baby food, pet foods etc. No dairy, frozen items or anything that can spoil. For more information, please call the church office at 631-581-4950.
