Please join St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School’s “Showers of Kindness” in honor of Mother’s Day. “Showers of Kindness” is a collection of new baby items to be donated to the families served by The Brentwood Health Center. This center is one of 42 Health Centers run by Sun River Health on Long Island, NYC, and the Hudson Valley that serve those in our community that have little or no health insurance. Quite often there is a language barrier or the reluctance of their patients to seek any medical care. The moms they serve are often at the lower end of the economic spectrum and are in dire need of items for their newborns and toddlers. Mr. Biagio M. Arpino, Principal, is delighted that the students are taking the

initiative in this endeavor, and that they are eager to share what they have been taught while at St. John’s – mainly, Christian values of assisting those in need. St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School, in partnership with their Student Council, will kick off “Showers of Kindness”. Suggested items are listed below. All items must be new and in original packaging. No formula please. Baby Hair Conditioner, Baby Laundry Detergent, Baby Lotion, Baby Shampoo, Baby Body Wash for bath time, Baby wipes, Bath toys, Bibs, Bottles (no glass please), Bottle brushes, Burp cloths, Diaper Cream, Diapers – all sizes, Hats, 3 – 6 months, Hooded Towels, Onesies (3–6 months), Pacifiers, Receiving blankets, Socks

Contractors For Kids (CFK) is a non-profit organization, which was founded for the purpose of providing assistance to families in Long Island communities. Their goal is to assist children and their families overcome obstacles that have unfortunately changed or have impacted their lives through the sickness, injury or death of a child. They are committed to this cause and want to give hope and reassurance for the futures of Long Islanders. CFK was founded in 2005 by Kevin Harney and Alan Nahmias of Stalco Construction. Kevin and Alan, both long-time philanthropists, saw the growing need for financial assistance in our communities and knew that something more needed to be done. Through random acts of kindness, they were slowly changing the lives of others, however they thirsted to make more change so they decided to form this non-profit, Contractors For Kids. Their organization runs on donations only and is volunteer based, they have no employees. One family at a time, they make sure that the financial hardship brought on by sickness, injury or death does not destroy an already hurting family. Whether it is to pay a phone bill or a mortgage payment, they want to be there to help. Since 2005, CFK has given out more than 3 MILLION DOLLARS to help local Long Islanders. Here are some of the areas they’ve helped others financially: Rent, Mortgage Payments, Oil Deliveries, Utility Bills, Food, Transportation To & From Hospitals, Co-Payments, Medications & Funeral Expenses. So how do you qualify to get help? It’s quite simple. If you can prove that you are struggling financially because of the sickness, injury or death of a child, you live on Long Island (in Nassau or Suffolk County), and you have

filled out their Application For Assistance, they will get in touch with you to see how they can be of help! Want to help make a difference? You can do so by learning their mission, spreading awareness, referring families to CFK, distributing handouts/ electronic materials and representing CFK at health fairs, open enrollment or employee meetings. Additionally, on June 14th CFK will be holding their 15th Annual Golf Outing at Woodside Club in Muttontown. This will be a COVID-19 compliant event...all local guidelines will be adhered to! There will be boxed breakfast, beverage carts, a silent auction, raffles, prizes, barbeque and of course, golfing. If you would like to attend as an individual player, in a group of 4 players or you would like to sign-up as a sponsor, you can. However, space is limited. Flood will play baseball for Farmingdale State College, Nakken will join SUNY Fredonia’s

swimming team, Rao will play soccer for Hartwick College in Oneonta and Spahn will wrestle for East Stroudsburg University. “Your achievement is a testament to your parents and their sacrifices,” Principal Jon LaRochester told the student-athletes in his congratulatory remarks. “I promise you that when you play sports in college, it will shape

who you are. Enjoy it, and make sure you take those memories and experiences and pay those forward.
