The opioid epidemic has highlighted that all ages, socio-economic backgrounds, and all communities can be profoundly vulnerable to addiction. YES Community Counseling Center has been providing both addiction treatment and prevention services for the past three decades with the understanding that the needs of each individual is uniquely different and therefore, treatment must also be individualized and utilize a variety of approaches.

YES Community Counseling Center’s addiction treatment services are comprehensive and approaches are based upon the developmental stage and readiness of each individual. Under the supervision of the agency’s Medical Director, specializes in evidence based services which are available for adolescents, young adults, adults and family members, including: •Adolescent Family Program (AFP) •Young Adult groups •Impaired driver evaluations and treatment •Moral Reconation Therapy for those who are legally involved (MRT) •Recovery groups •Trauma focused therapies •Parent and signiﬁcant other support groups •Educational groups

It is also understood that most often, family members are deeply affected by addiction and require support and well as an understanding the complexities of the disease and how to support a loved one through their recovery. Early education about addiction is critical along with early interventions that build individual, family and community protective factors to reduce the likelihood of young people resorting to substances to cope with life’s challenges. In light of marijuana legalization, it is so important that parents learn the detrimental effects of all substances on the developing brain. 11th Annual All Kids Fair Has Many Exciting Activity Areas Families across Long Island cannot wait for the All Kids Fair’s first in-person event since before Covid-19. The 11th annual All Kids Fair will be on Sunday, April 3, from 10-4:30, at Samanea New York Mall, formerly The Source Mall, at 1504 Old Country Road in Westbury. Since 2011, the All Kids Fair has been a fun day each April for kids and their families to spend time together and also learn about Long Island-based companies with services and products for them. There are many exciting reasons for families to attend this amazing event. This fun-filled event offers exciting educational and leisure activities to interest kids and their families each year. The Fair has opportunities for all ages, including kids who have special needs. Families can interact inperson with exhibitors in a huge space, with vendors set further apart and with the activity areas in designated open areas rather than in breakout rooms. Attendee Jonathan Morris shared “The All Kids Fair is a great resource for new parents and old parents alike showcasing many different vendors with great ideas and opportunities for all families.” Jennifer Keegan of Your Local Kids Source, a multiyear sponsor and exhibitor, previously shared that she “had a great time at the All Kids Fair meeting tons of Long Island parents and enjoying all the smiling faces

ISLIP WRESTLERS FIND SUCCESS AT COUNTY AND STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS - Islip High School’s varsity wrestling squad ended a super season with a fine showing at the county championships, boasting two Suffolk County champions and sending three wrestlers to states. Seniors Tom Andria (in the 160-pound category) and Matt Hole (152 pounds) finished first at the county tournament, held Feb. 13 at Bay Shore High School, while sophomore Zack Miller (138 pounds) placed second; all three earned All-County designation. Junior Juan Pantaleon (285 pounds) earned fourth place. East Islip’s National Honor Society Holds Second Successful Sports Equipment Drive

East Islip High School’s National Honor Society recently completed its second successful sports equipment drive. More than 60 bags and over 150 different articles of gently used and new sports equipment, ranging from baseballs to hockey sticks, were donated to Strength Heals, an Islip nonprofit

Home Voyage and the Protein Panda, Islip High School’s Virtual Enterprise teams, both participated in a virtual trade show last month. Guided by instructors Renee DeCrescenzo Clock and Danielle McMullan, each firm has entered 11 different competitions this year, at both the regional (against more than 3,000 participating firms in the Northeast, Long Island, and New York City) and national (against more than 5,000 firms throughout the United States) level. Since they face different firms at each

competition, doing so has allowed both Islip firms to keep advancing in the overall Top 50 VE Firms standings. Virtual Enterprise is a simulated course that allows aspiring entrepreneurs to create their own corporation and experience how an actual business works. Students design and price products, develop company policies, organize financial statements, and oversee the operation of all aspects of a corporation. Firms from different schools around the world are able to interact and buy

products from one another using the virtual currency gained through the sale of their products. Each competition involves departments within the firm working together to create a written document that is presented with a virtual oral presentation. Student “employees” within each firm work hard to meet deadlines and perfect their submissions while continuing to operate the daily functions and requirements of their firms.

LEGISLATOR FLOTTERON HONORS THE 100TH EAGLE SCOUT WITH TROOP 205 - Legislator Steven J. Flotteron recognized the 100th Eagle Scout with Troop 205, Robert Martin Camlet, of East Islip in a ceremony held at Timber Point Elementary School. Robert earned his Eagle Scout ranking by completing his service project of planning, constructing and replanting the 9/11 Memorial along with the East Garden in front of the John F. Kennedy Elementary School in East Islip. He is a graduate of East Islip High School, where he held high honors throughout all four years. He is currently a freshmen in the Honors Program at Suffolk County Community College, completing his core requirements and next year will be applying to four-year colleges to complete his bachelor’s degree.

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is pleased to announce that the 29th annual Spring Egg Hunt at Belmont Lake State Park will be held Saturday, April 9, 2022, from 12:00pm-2:00pm. There is no rain date for this event. The egg hunts will take place on the open field and will begin at 12:15pm. Additional hunts will occur at 15-minute intervals with the last one at 1:45pm. The hunts will be divided into three age categories: ages 4 & under; ages 5 & 6 and ages 7-9. There is a 3-egg limit per child per hunt to ensure everyone goes home with a special treat. Please bring a small bag or basket for your child to put their eggs in.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (State Parks) will hold the annual Spring Family Fishing Festival on Saturday, April 2, at Belmont Lake State Park. Additional sponsors for the fishing festival include the Natural Heritage Trust, The Fisherman Magazine, New York Life, Seaford Knights of Columbus Fishing Club, Art Flick Chapter Trout Unlimited, and radio stations 106.1 WBLI and 102.3 WBAB. “Freshwater fishing is an activity the whole family can enjoy, especially on Long Island,” Regional Director Cathy Haas said. “The Spring Fishing Festival at Belmont Lake State Park is an excellent way to kick

off the fishing season and introduce family and friends to the sport with no license needed. Festival attendees can learn about freshwater fishing opportunities on Long Island and try their hand at fishing for trout while kids can participate in the casting contest and other fun activities.” “Fishing is a great way for New Yorkers to enjoy the outdoors and appreciate the environment,” said State Parks Long Island Regional Director George Gorman Jr. “I encourage anglers of all ages to discover what a great place Belmont Lake State Park is to try fishing.” Festival activities begin at 10 a.m., and are provided free of charge. Activities include open fishing, casting instruction, rod use, fish identification, fishing

instruction, fly-casting demonstrations, and a fish cleaning station. DEC and local fishing clubs will host informational displays and loaner rods and free bait will be available to participants. The supply of loaner rods is limited and participants are encouraged to bring their own fishing tackle if possible. Children’s activities include the “Spring Fling” casting contest, as well as hands-on educational displays by DEC’s Education Unit. Children participating in the casting contest will have a chance to win prizes supplied by DEC’s I FISH NY Program. This event will be held rain or shine. The Spring Fishing Festival is designated as a Free Fishing Event, so the freshwater fishing license requirement for
