Start Slowly Before Starting Improvement Projects Just like certain exercises, home improvement projects may involve heavy lifting, bending, moving, and stretching. After spending much of the winter indoors and largely sedentary, some homeowners may be tempted to jump into projects with gusto when the warm weather returns, but that can be a recipe for injury that can sideline DIYers. Homeowners can start slowly and then gradually work longer hours, just as they might do when returning to exercise after time off. Homeowners can see how their muscles feel after an hour or two. Homeowners who vary the tasks they tackle will use different muscle groups, which can reduce strain and limit injury risk. Whenever possible, opt for ergonomic tools that can reduce users’ risk of repetitive stress injuries.

T h e Twilight Wish Foundation is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization whose mission is to honor and enrich the lives of seniors through intergenerational Twilight Wish celebrations. Since the organization’s founding in 2003, their goal has been to make the world a nicer place to age, one Twilight Wish at a time. When a Twilight Wish is granted, a senior is recognized for all that they have done throughout their lives and is shown that they are appreciated and valued. To date, the Twilight Wish Foundation has granted over 3,700 wishes throughout our country and multiple wishes have being granted on Long Island recently! These wishes have ranged from simple needs wishes, such as shaving razors for nursing home veterans, to living life to the fullest wishes, such as going cross country in a tractor trailer truck. Recently, many Long Island residents had their wishes come true. Each week for the remaining weeks this month, I will feature wishes that were granted right here on Long Island, starting with Kathy W. Kathy is a 74 year old resident of Middle Island who was nominated by one of her friends. She has trouble hearing, but continues to be an active participant in the Catholic Daughters of America and the first one to jump in and help out, according to her nominator. She is also very active in the parish senior club and pre-COVID she attended all the functions. Kathy needed hearing aids, but could not afford them on her fixed income. However, after being nominated and chosen, The Twilight Wish Foundation was able to grant her wish of receiving hearing aids! This was a life changing experince for all involved.

Dented cans have long been a source of confusion and concern for shoppers. They may be discounted and seem like a good deal, but some of those dented cans may not be safe to eat. Damaged cans may be harboring food that contains botulism and other toxins. According to the United States Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Services, if a can of food has a small dent but is otherwise in good shape, the food should be safe to eat. However, deeply dented cans should be discarded. Dented cans of food that are safe will have smooth dents or dents that are not on the seams of the can. A person should avoid sharp dents, dents in the seam and dents where the seam and the can meet. In addition, if the can is bulging or swollen, it should be avoided. Dents in a seam can let in air and bacteria. Deep dents may have left pinholes, again where bacteria can enter.

The register prepared shall be filed in the Office of the Clerk of the East Islip Union Free School District and shall be open for inspection by any qualified voter of the District on

This Virtual One-Room Schoolhouse Experience Makes a Huge Impact on Long Island & Beyond The Farmingville Historical Society was formed in 1992 to preserve and restore the Bald Hills OneRoom Schoolhouse. The Bald Hills Schoolhouse is a one-room Greek Revival Schoolhouse built in 1850. It stands on its original foundation on Horseblock Road in Farmingville and served the Farmingville community until 1929. After 84 years of being closed, the Schoolhouse was re-opened in November 2013 to educate the community through student field trips, history speaker presentations, historic events and now through The Virtual One-Room Schoolhouse.

Feb. 3 to see the school’s new Senior Hallway decorated with their All About Me posters, a senior banner filled with signatures, and numerous “welcome back” messages from the staff. The Class of 2021 hosted a socially distanced fundraiser on Feb. 4 in hopes of adding some personal flair to the Senior Hallway. At the event, each senior was provided with a ceiling tile that they were able to paint and decorate to commemorate their time as a student in East
Islip. The students were able to paint together in the cafeteria, listening to music while sharing memories and laughs. The personalized ceiling tiles were then placed in the ceiling of the Senior Hallway. “We were thrilled to see so many students take part in decorating this hallway and can’t wait to see what else the seniors come up with,” said Marissa Quigley, who serves as senior class adviser along DECORATED TILES TO CELEBRATE - East Islip High School’s Class of 2021 decorated tiles to celebrate their year in the new Senior Hallway.
