he Deer Park School District’s department of world languages and ENL celebrated National Poetry Month by hosting an International Poetry Festival: A Night of Poetry, Milk and Cookies. At the April event, students from kindergarten through twelfth-grade recited both original and famous poems in French, Italian, Spanish and English in front of an audience of family and friends. A great time was had by all.

show for the last seven years or so, enjoying the alternating featured performances of both the Thunderbirds and the Blue Angels. As a member of the press, I was even lucky enough to have the opportunity a few years back to meet and greet the Blue Angels’ pilots at an exclusive preview held at Republic Airport. Eyes On The Sky At this time of year, I usually write a column on the importance of appreciating Memorial Day for its intended purpose, to honor those who have served and sacrificed. Too easily do we as a society become swept up in the “unofficial summer kickoff” mentality, of BBQs and pool openings and the beginning of beach season. That said, there is one other Memorial Day tradition that I do truly enjoy, which mixes the significance of the occasion with some good oldfashioned fun in the sun. I am speaking of the Jones Beach Air Show, held each year on the Saturday and Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. I’ve been attending the

forced to park on the median of Ocean Parkway after sitting in traffic for hours. Each year, no matter the conditions, I have been able to capture stunning photographs and, most importantly, to make happy, lasting memories with friends. Sure, it may be a frivolous, fun day at the beach; but ultimately, we are appreciating the grand spectacle of our military aircraft at its finest. It is a beautiful site to behold, one that everyone should make a point of taking in at least once in his or her lives. This weekend, I plan to join the masses in making my way to Jones Beach once again – armed with sunscreen, and several extra layers of clothing – just in case. Happy Summer to all!

From Poetry To Dessert The Deer Park School District’s department of world languages and ENL celebrated National Poetry Month by hosting “International Poetry Festival: A Night of Poetry, Milk and Cookies.” At the April event, students from
kindergarten through 12th grade – representing Deer Park High School, Robert Frost Middle School, John F. Kennedy Intermediate School, John Quincy Adams Primary School and May Moore Primary School – recited both original and famous
poems in French, Italian, Spanish and English in front of an audience of family and friends. Students also prepared and performed songs in the various languages of study. The delightful evening culminated with milk and cookies for all.

I’ve been on summer vacation for two weeks. Since coming back to Long Island, my experiences have really put life into perspective. The people who I spent time with on a regular basis throughout high school are no longer my close friends. Time has created a gap between us. It is amazing how a few months of college can change people so much. I’m not saying it is a bad thing, because it really doesn’t matter all that much. The people who really count - my family and lifelong friends will always be there for me. I know that when I need them, all I have to do is reach out. Even though life works in crazy ways, these people are important, and will always have a place in my heart. I can only hope they value me in the same way. It isn’t easy. There are
obstacles to friendship. Work, school, girls and other friends can all drive a wedge between best friends. I’ve had it happen to me, and it sucks. I don’t want to come off as some kid whining about friendship - I just want to put it in perspective. Life moves fast, and it is important to keep friendships and other relationships strong. I hope to have all of my friends with me as I grow up. Without a doubt, I can say that my friends have shaped who I am. They are invaluable, and the source of my happiest moments. Throughout this upcoming summer, I hope to rekindle old friendships, build upon current ones and make new friends! It’s going to be a great summer, and I’m very excited to spend it with the people who have always been there for me.

It is in this very moment where we must take a stand for what we believe in - whether it be happiness, success, traveling, relationships or making a difference. About ninety five percent of people lay dormant on their couch whilst helplessly gulping on their chips of potatoes. They allow life to pass them by, as if they’re going to live for an eternity. And we wonder why our lives are mundane. There is something inside your heart calling out for you to accomplish. It begins with a firing desire, task planning and massive execution. Do not allow the time it will take or any naysayers to back you down toward their advantage points. Why? Because every great outcome began as a microscopic vision. The vision proceeded by getting planted with soil, which took preparation. Next was water and nurturing and some sun - which denotes the action steps it
took to grow. A few months stroll by. The tiny seed transforms into an entity, astounded by others and blossomed to inspire others to aspire to do the same. I believe we are here for a reason. To create, build, make and invent. We are artists. We create how we live day in and day out. You possess the paintbrush of change, possibility and creativity. Part of other experiences occurring in our lives are inevitable; however, how we react is in our control. When there are dark skies, there are the brightest of stars. When there are heavy rains, there are the most breathtaking of rainbows. So, fellow reader, are you planting your seeds on mother earth - the place we call home? Because our bodies are capable of anything. It is our minds we must convince. The resources required are directly in front of us: The natural sun, plentiful water and the soil by which our feet rests. It all starts with one, single seed.

It pulled her back into the Sea To cleanse her soul, Her worried being Ceaseless, this went on and on.
