The Charity of the Month for December is: John Theissen Children’s Foundation www.jtcf.org

In 1992, John Theissen held a toy drive during the holiday season to benefit children in local hospitals. During this first drive, he collected over 800 new toys in just 2 weeks! That was

the beginning of what has become the year round organization, John Theissen Children’s Foundation. Since 1992, this organization has collected over 1 million new toys and have donated them to sick and underpriviledged children in over 180 hospitals and child-care facilities. However, this Foundation does more than just collect and distribute toys. They also provide hospitals and child-care facilities with therapeutic and recreational equipment, support families with financial assistance to defray medical expenses, fulfill patient’s wishlists throughout the year (for those 18 years of age

LOCAL ORGANIZATION HELPS CHILDREN IN NEED - Help Mrs. Claus is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization, which answers Christmas wishes that are gathered from children in need. These children are living in NYC through the Harlem Dowling agency, a charity helping children succeed since the 1880’s. The Christmas wishes are first written out in the children’s Letters to Santa. Then Help Mrs. Claus steps in and helps to fulfill these wishes. Since inception 9 years ago, Help Mrs. Claus has granted over 2,000 wishes, but they will not stop there! They are currently in the process of gathering gift donations for the upcoming Holiday Season. With plenty of children in need, they are still looking for volunteers and donations. TRANSPLANT RECIPIENT MEETS DONOR’S DAUGHTER - Long Island resident Raymond Miehl, 62, met Ashley Brayton of Ohio, whose father’s heart now beats in his chest. Ashely’s father, Ronnie Davis died on March 1, 2016 at the age of 46. On March 3, 2016 Miehl received his heart. The families first contacted each two years ago, and have been planning this meeting for more than a year.

Finishing A Season Of Teamwork a pumpkin using the catapult the students constructed. “This group of students worked hard all summer and on Saturdays to reengineer this machine to what it is today,” said technology teacher Bruce Sander, the team’s coach. “We decided to repower this machine using 600 feet of latex tubing and the results have been amazing, doubling our throwing

distance from last year and now reaching over 1,800 feet. The engineering design and the handson construction while working as a team is what the Dark Falcons are all about. The involvement of the parents, with their dedication and time spent traveling to events, is also a big factor in this team’s success. We look forward to competing again next year.”
