ANALYZING AIR FORCE MUSIC FOR VETERANS DAY - In honor of Veterans Day, second graders at Deer Park’s May Moore Primary School studied and analyzed the music of the U.S. Air Force with teacher Kristen Lombardo. A friend of Lombardo’s family has been deployed, so she decided to turn the activity into a writing and art project as well. The students turned their Air Force listening glyphs into cards, thanking members of the Air Force for their service. was near death. Now people wonder if she saved the kitten, or if the kitten actually saved her. Coming back home to the States, she is desperate to bring the cat, Rona, along with her. To help make it happen, she has turned to Guardians of Rescue, which has a reputation of helping soldiers. “We know all too well how important and lifesaving these pets are to our soldiers stationed in the Middle East,” explains Robert Misseri, president of Guardians of Rescue, an animal rescue organization. “When they come back home, they can’t bear to leave them there, and we agree that it’s not safe. Leaving the cat in the Middle East will end up being a death sentence for it. We will make every effort to bring Rona home to her, but we need the public’s support to help make it happen.” Sgt. Ash’s roommate worked for a veterinarian on base, where they had been given a rescued kitten that was only a week old. They didn’t know if it would make it, as it was near death, and they knew she needed around-the-clock care. That’s when she decided to hook up Sgt. Ash with the kitten, thinking that taking care of her would help distract her thoughts from all the family issues that were weighing on her. Sgt. Ash took the kitten and gave it all the care that it needed. Twice she thought she almost lost her, but the kitten held on and pushed through. Once she overcame being sick, she decided to name her Rona, which was after the coronavirus, because she felt that the virus is tough to fight, and Rona had put up a great fight. She went on to spend all of her time with Rona, creating a loving bond

Approximately 30 socially distanced kindergarten to preteen age attendees and their parents were read to by the Black Panther character, WPL staff members and others at the WPL community event. In addition, Jason A. Richberg, Suffolk County Legislator provided some encouraging words to the children about the importance of reading. The children won prizes for answering questions about Black Panther Tales
& reading comprehension, including activity books, shopping bag full of treats, free pizza and pens from JP Morgan Chase Bank. Sponsored by Domino’s Pizza and the Greater Wyandanch Chamber of Commerce, the October 24th event - which began at 11am – took place outdoors at the pizza chain’s Delano H. Stewart Plaza location on 40 Station Drive in Wyandanch. Recovered COVID-19 Patients Battling Long-Term Health Effects COVID-19 has impacted tens of thousands of Long Islanders, and many who have recovered from the virus are now combatting a variety of lingering health issues as a result. Known as “long-haulers” these individuals are living with the chronic effects of the virus that can include organ damage, poor lung function, fatigue, muscle aches, cognitive slowing and headaches. Also, longhaulers still exhibit various symptoms of COVID even after testing negative for the virus. “The long-lasting health effects of COVID-19 could affect anyone at any age, but appears to be more likely with those over the age of 50,” said Director of Infectious Disease at Catholic Health Service’s (CHS) St. Francis Hospital Alan M. Bulbin, M.D. “Those with other comorbidities, chronic illnesses or those who have had a more serious acute infection are also more likely to be impacted. But we have also seen younger patients show long-term health impacts after recovering from the virus.”
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said it is actively working to learn more about the range of shortand long-term health effects associated with COVID-19. CDC officials said continued research is revealing that many organs, including the lungs and heart, are impacted by the virus. Dr. Bulbin recommends that medical treatment for long-haulers should be managed by an individual’s primary care physician. He said the challenge currently facing doctors in treating those with longlasting health results from COVID-19 is identifying the proper treatment regimen. To help those dealing with long-term health effects of COVID-19, CHS’s St. Charles Hospital now offers a Post-COVID Outpatient Rehabilitation Program. Patients who are at least 14 days past a COVID-19 diagnosis are provided medicallysupervised physical therapy for endurance training, strength training and education.
Recognizing a need to develop a program specifically for patients who are dealing with the after-effects of COVID-19, the medical team at St. Charles used their experience in working with patients who have respiratory illnesses such as emphysema or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
