Choosing Characters Students at Deer Park’s John Quincy Adams Primary School participated in a schoolwide election on November 9th to choose their favorite book character for president, coordinated by math lab teacher Debbie Bradbury.
The students were read two selections, “Grace for President” and “Max for President,” then cast their votes in the JQA gymnasium by using laptop computers. The election results, in which the students chose Grace as their favorite character
and book, were then graphed and displayed in the lobby for all to see. “This election experience was both exciting and educational for the students at John Quincy Adams, and will be remembered for years to come,” said Bradbury.

Speaking of, I seemed to be growing my own little fur coat of sorts over the last week or so, as my fins began sprouting tiny tufts of white fuzz. Apparently, this is not supposed to happen, and so my Human decided to overhaul my entire tank and redecorate with new gravel and a pretty little – emphasis on little – plant. My favorite feature of all, though, would have to be the tiny “betta hammock” which now hangs from the side, essentially a leaf attached to a suction cup. I suppose this was designed to replace my former, much larger, luxurious plant which I used to use as a pillow of sorts. I must say, though, it’s quite

inferior. Too straight, too shiny and slippery…but the suction cup, that’s the greatest. How I do love to sit perched atop it, resting my weary fins after a long day of swimming laps. After a few days of fishy antibiotics, my little fuzz problem seems to have gone away. Excellent Character At Deer Park High School’s annual fall Breakfast for Champions, held on November 10th in the school library, 19 Deer Park High School students were honored by teachers and administrators for their character. Each fall and spring, student champions are chosen by each of the school’s departments, alongside three additional principal’s, administrator’s and teacher’s champions. The school’s string ensemble provided music for the event.
