PASTA & SAUCE FOOD DRIVE - The Sons of Italy in America, Constantino Brumidi Lodge N0.2211 in Deer Park, held a Pasta & Sauce Food Drive in their lodge from September 12th to October 3rd, 2019. This food drive was to help aid and supplement a Pasta & Tomato Sauce Drive being run by Town of Babylon Councilman, Anthony Manetta, a proud member of the Lodge. Members donated various types and brands of pasta including Gluten Free pasta as well as various brands of Tomato Sauce. President Carmine Soldano stated that it was not easy for Italians to give up their pasta and sauce, but is went towards a great cause. He also thanked the membership in helping the Town of Babylon to stock its Pantry, Italian Style. Councilman Manetta presented the lodge with a certificate of appreciation for all their efforts. The Charity of the Month for October is: The Cemetery of Lost Souls (lostsoulsli.com) Benefitting Melissa’s Wish The Cemetery of Lost Souls is a grass roots organization that gears up each year to create an elaborate Haunted House on the founder’s property, located at 350 Broadway in Massapequa Park. Every bit of money raised through their annual e v e n t (admission, donations, sponsorships, etc.) is given to a chosen charity. They have raised a lot of money over the years in donations alone and have donated to charities such as Autism Speaks, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Ronald McDonald House Charities and Long Island Cares. This year they will bring the community a new interactive experience with the second Lost Souls Walk-Thru haunt, new rooms, new scares and new thrills! The event will run on October 18-19, 25-26, 31 and November 1-2 from 7PM-11:30PM. The chosen charity for 2019 is Melissa’s Wish, a non-profit organization founded with the purpose of providing short term, non-medical financial aid in the form of a grant to caregivers who are assisting those afflicted with a serious illness, injury or end of life event. You can become involved with the Cemetery of Lost Souls in many ways. They are actively looking for volunteers in the following areas: Digital Marketing (to help with social media marketing), Scare Team Members (actors to help put on the event), Security (watching over the event and making sure all guests are safe), and Bake Team Members (to donate baked

goods to sell at some of the events). Volunteers must be 16 years of age and volunteer time can count towards community service hours! Inaugurating a positive new era for the Deer Park School District, Superintendent James Cummings debuted an updated mission statement for Deer Park during his Sept. 3 address on Superintendent’s Conference Day. Cummings redesigned the statement alongside other administrators in a carefully considered process of thinking about the district’s purpose,

writing down goals for this new vision and stating core beliefs that the district is committed to such as inclusivity, diversity and responsibility. “From here on out, other than state mandates, the decisions that we make as a district will have this mission statement in mind,” Cummings said. “How do we make the school a better environment for students? How do we help them become more

successful in the future and teach them to be more collaborative and get along? Our students come from 43 different countries from five of the seven continents, and Deer Park has a unique opportunity to prepare students at an early age for a global world and how to interact with people from different cultures, backgrounds and beliefs.”

of Patrolman Joseph Piagentini Memorial Playground in Deer Park. Joseph Piagentini, a Deer Park resident, was a member of the New York City Police Department with the 32nd Precinct for five years before being

Playground Dedicated killed while on patrol in May 1971. The local officials were joined at the ceremony by members of the Piagentini family and representatives of the New York City Police Department.

GINA LIENECK HONORED - On Saturday October 5, 2019 the Deer Park Fire Department along with the Town of Babylon and Suffolk County officials honored Gina Lieneck for her hard work and her determination for the passage of Brianna’s Law to Strengthen Boater Safety. Brianna was Gina’s 11 year old daughter who was killed in a boating accident in 2005 on the Great South Bay.
