Rescheduled 10th Annual All Kids Fair Has Gone Virtual! The 10th annual All Kids Fair, which was postponed from its usual month of April to November 8 has now gone virtual! An expo which draws thousands could not take place due to COVID-19, but rest assured a great time can still be had by all members of the family online. This year’s All Kids Fair, which will take place from 11 AM – 4 PM, will have a great line-up of virtual classes for the kids of all ages with some for the adults, too. Some of the many kids’ classes will be:

Incredibles Entertainment, Science Party, Captain America Entertainment, Intro to Chess, and an Adventure Style Class. For the adults, there will be classes on essential oils, avoiding sugar in your children’s diet, and financial planning. Since families always enjoy our petting zoo, this year there will be several virtual “live animal visits,” where farm animals such as sheep, goats and a mini-donkey will be the stars. In addition to being educational, the “visits”

will be highly entertaining. Another new addition to this year’s event are “coffee talks,” opportunities for parents to interact with others at the same stage of life, such as those with a child who is an infant, toddler, elementary age, middle school age, special needs, and gifted. All Kids Fair Director Barbara Kaplan said the time is right to pivot to an All Kids Fair virtual expo. “It’s definitely not “just a Zoom event.’ It is a fullfledged virtual expo. We have incorporated many

JQA Students Focus On Feelings In a socially distanced session at Deer Park’s John Quincy Adams Primary School, ENL teacher Heather Butler led an inclusive read aloud of Jacqueline Woodson’s “The Day You Begin.” The book focuses on about students

who are new to school and how they deal with the feelings that come with being and feeling different. In the story, the two main characters find the courage to connect with their peers and share stories about their lives.

Following the read aloud, the JQA students were encouraged to share their own stories about what makes them special or unique and engage in an activity to illustrate and write those stories.

School And Public Libraries Collaborate On Initiatives The Deer Park High School librarian Victoria Rosenthal met with Ruby Marchetti, the head of young adult services at Deer Park Public Library to discuss the 2020-2021 young adult/high school

student collaborative initiative. The two discussed ways to bridge the gap between the public and school libraries in order to promote all library resources, programs and services.

“Collaborating in this way will ensure that Deer Park students and young adult patrons have the best of what our libraries have to offer,” Rosenthal said.

Voting is a privilege and a responsibility, so voters should familiarize themselves with the candidates and issues on the ballot in the weeks leading up to Election Day. In addition to national or statewide candidates and issues, voters should learn about local issues that may have a more direct impact on their daily lives. The more voters learn about the candidates and issues in advance, the more quickly they can cast their votes and get to work or return home.

Election Day gives voters throughout the United States a chance to participate in their government. The right to vote is something to cherish, as many people across the globe do not get a chance to elect the officials who govern their countries. While Election Day is an exciting time, voters may find it frustrating if they do not take steps to ensure things go smoothly when they head to the polls. The following tips can help voters prepare for Election Day. Confirm your polling location. Polling locations may have changed since last year, and voters who have moved in the past 12 months may now have to vote in a new location. Voters can contact their local board of elections or visit www.Vote411.org to confirm the correct polling locations for them to cast their votes. Voters should learn the hours when the polls are open so they do not arrive too early or too late to vote. Bring photo identification. Voter identification laws vary by state, but voters who want to avoid hassles or holdups may be able to do so by bringing current photo identification with them to the polling place. While such identification is not necessarily a requirement, voters who bring along a driver’s license or state identification card may get in and out of the polling place more quickly than those who do not.
