Their mission is to improve the spiritual and temporal conditions of the children, families and people of the communities they serve by providing excellent service to all who come, whether they be rich or poor, high or low social status. They are here to love, to serve and to give.

56 years later, their work continues under the direction of the founders’ daughter, Rev. Kimberly Gaines-Gambino, who functions as the President/Pastor of this organization. She has also served as Pastor of Half Hollow Community Church in Dix Hills from 2011-2019, however she resigned from that position in January of 2020 to devote more of her time to the work of HHRM. She is a wife to her husband Andrew and mom & stepmom to five amazing kids. How does HHRM serve others? Feeding The Hungry: HHRM serves approximately 200-300 families per week with non-perishable items and fresh produce, fruit, meat, eggs, milk and bread. Since March 21, 2020, they have given out over 27,000 food bags to people in need on Long Island. HHRM partners with many schools, organizations, temples, churches, youth organizations, civic organizations, clubs, businesses, and
the many individuals and families donating to our pantry to gather food for the hungry.
School Supply Distribution: Every child deserves to have the supplies they need for their education, feel confident in a room with their peers and be prepared for their school year. This non-profit gathers and distributes school supplies to local children that are in need. Baby Blessings: Baby Blessings is a part of HHRM that focuses on providing families with children under 3 years old with diapers, baby clothes, other baby supplies and a brunch! Baby Blessings is hosted at Huntington Assembly of God every third Tuesday of the month. HHRM is so thankful to partner with Family Service League, the Allied Foundation and Huntington Assembly of God to make Baby Blessings possible. Community Closet: HHRM runs something called the Community Closet, which provides new and gently used seasonallyappropriate clothing to anyone in need during it’s hours of operation. Appropriate clothing can be a genuinely difficult expense for families, especially since most have children that are always growing. Helping Hand Rescue Mission also holds various other outreach programs, some of which are seasonal. There are many ways you can volunteer with, donate to or receive help from HHRM. Approximately one hundred names have recently been added to the cemetery’s September 11th Memorial. The memorial, a beautiful black marble sculpture that is the center piece of a specially designated area of the cemetery which was set aside for victims of the terrorist attacks, was erected in 2003. The memorial currently displays the names of 414 individuals who were victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center. Newly added names include both those who passed away on 9/11 and individuals who worked at Ground Zero and succumbed to related illnesses, bringing the number of those to be remembered on the memorial on the day of the Mass to approximately 500 in total. “As we mark the 20th year since 9-11, we know that many people remain profoundly impacted. This special Mass led by Bishop Barres is an important event on this solemn day. It is important that we remember the victims of the attacks, those who rushed to their aid and all who selflessly gave of themselves afterwards at Ground Zero, suffering years of chronic health conditions and related illnesses. Catholic Cemeteries of Long Island is holding a remembrance Mass for families of victims, first responders and Ground Zero workers as part of the 20th year remembrance of the September 11th 2001 Terrorist Attacks on America. The Mass will be led by Bishop John O. Barres, of the Diocese of Rockville Centre. This special service will be held outside at the Cemetery of the Holy Rood’s 9/11 Memorial. The Mass will take place on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021, beginning at 1 p.m. Attendees are asked to arrive by 12:30 p.m. Family members and members of the Long Island Community and the public are welcome and encouraged to attend. Seating will be limited, and not guaranteed. Recognizing that some family members may be elderly and/or need assistance, those attending are urged to plan in advance and consider arriving early. Parking may be some distance from the September 11th Memorial where the outdoor Mass will be held. Life’s WORC’s Family Center for Autism Awards 10 Scholarships Life’s WORC (www.lifesworc. org), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and autism through its residential, community and trust services, which this year is celebrating its 50th anniversary – Celebrate 50! - recently awarded ten new scholarships valued at over $11,000. The scholarships were provided to those who are financially-challenged so that they too can access Life’s WORC’s Family Center for Autism’s programs. These recent scholarships were awarded
to individuals on the Autism Spectrum ranging in age from 10 to 22 years old. They are being used for classes and activities in the Children’s Breakfast Club, Friday Night Social Scene, Culinary Connections, Teen Zumba, Adult Baking, Teen Baking, Teen Technology, Teen Painting, among others. Family Center for Autism’s scholarship funds are generated through private donations and enable the organization to offer scholarships ranging from $500 to $1,500 to pay for any of its programs. Since its inception in 2015, the program has awarded
approximately 250 scholarships valued at over $250,000. Willowbrook State School back in the early 1970s. As a young reporter, Geraldo Rivera exposed the deplorable conditions that existed within the then largest institution in the nation serving children with developmental disabilities. Rivera first learned about these conditions from Life’s WORC founder Victoria Schneps. Her daughter, Lara, diagnosed at an early age with severe brain damage, was a resident at Willowbrook. When cuts in state funding caused the More About Life’s WORC institution to fall into extensive Life’s WORC was founded 50 disrepair, Schneps, along with years ago after the closing of other concerned individuals,
picketed to fight for the rights of Willowbrook’s more than 5,000 residents. Rivera’s report, which earned him a Peabody Award, ultimately forced the closing of Willowbrook. Schneps started Life’s WORC and opened its first home in Little Neck, Queens. Its first residents were former Willowbrook residents. Today, Life’s WORC provides beautiful homes located across the region, from Nassau and Suffolk to Queens and Manhattan, in addition to community services, financial and trust services, and the programs and services of its Family Center for Autism.

NORTH SHORE ANIMAL LEAGUE AMERICA PARTNERS WITH AMELIA AIR ANIMAL RESCUE - North Shore Animal League America Rescue Manager, Karla Agostinello, carries a mother cat and kitten off Amelia Air transport at Republic Airport in Farmingdale, on August 15. More than twenty rescue animals were flown up from South Carolina and will be available for adoption.
Amelia Air Animal Rescue and flew dogs and cats rescued locally by North Shore Animal League America’s shelter partner Lakeside Animal Rescue in Orangeburg, SC. Also on the tarmac in New York was Petra Janney, co-founder of Amelia Air Animal Rescue. This transport is the first of, what is hoped to be, many scheduled as part of the new Humane Relocation collaboration between Animal League America and Amelia Air. A major missing link for rural shelters when it comes to animal rescue is the ability to relocate animals from their often overcrowded shelters to more populated areas with large numbers of potential adopters. North Shore Animal League America pioneered humane relocation programs, now utilized by many groups, enabling local shelters and
