Today, I turn 35, making that dreaded leap into the next age bracket. So long 1834. It’s been fun. Though age is but a number, it does tend to carry added significance the higher those digits climb. Each year brings with it a sort of reevaluation of life. Where am I at? Where do I want to be? And, most importantly, how to traverse that at-times tricky road between points A & B. Uneven as it might seem, I do believe we all have a path we are destined to travel. How we choose to navigate it remains somewhat open-ended. I’ve always felt my generation existed on the cusp of two worlds. A child of the 90’s, my teen years were spent listening to the sounds of *NSync and Britney Spears and watching T.G.I.F. on ABC

Friday nights. The entire grunge movement passed me by, as did many of the cult classic movies of the time. Twenty years later, I have found a new appreciation for all that came before. Pop culture aside, I feel my particular age group remains the last of the “old school.” We were brought up in an age where technology was limited to televisions and radios, Walkmen and cassette tapes. No one had a cell phone until I was well into college, perhaps a beeper if they were lucky. If you wanted to reach a friend, you called their home and most likely were greeted by their parents, who knew you by name. A night out consisted of being dropped off at the local mall or movie theater, then picked up by those same parents and taken
to a local diner. To say things have changed would be an understatement. Of course, this is the case with each generation, as its members grow and flourish and begin to explore the world on their own. We pick up on elements of those who came before and modify them to fit our constantly evolving view of our surroundings as they, too, evolve on a near daily basis. The hope, in the end, is that we will never completely let go of those things which shaped us during our most formative years, the core values we were raised with. No matter how life may change, no matter how many age brackets we pass through, we must remain true to ourselves. Here’s to 35. Here’s to the next chapter, a fresh page in the old book.

Friends, family and community came together for a spectacular day at Fireman’s Field in Deer Park for the 10th annual Anthony Todaro Softball Game & Barbeque. The event raised more than $10,000 to benefit the
Cancer Center for Kids (CCFK) at NYU Winthrop Hospital. The Anthony Todaro Foundation was established to celebrate the life of Mr. & Mrs. Gaetano Todaro’s son, Anthony, and to warmly embrace children with pediatric
cancer and hematologic disorders. Flanked by their dedicated board members, volunteers and friends, Mr. & Mrs. Todaro orchestrated this beautiful Sunday affair with over 100 prizes, trips, and gift certificates to
and commending the Todaro’s on the impact of their great works. Mrs. Todaro recently visited the Cancer Center for Kids, to provide college scholarship funds to teen patients of the CCFK who are now on their way to their first year in college. With the support received from the 2017 Softball Game & Barbecue, the Foundation is able to provide 7 patients with scholarship funding, and in addition, will continue to fund decorative “Theme Weeks” and annual holiday parties for the Center.

In the New York State Senate’s Earth Day Poster Contest, organized by State Sen. Phil Boyle, JFK fifth-grader Haley Reyes was named the firstplace winner. Her poster, reflecting the theme of THE RIGHT STUFF - JFK winners in the annual Covanta recycling poster contest “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle,” were third-graders Jaidyn Schabe and Kaylee Nguyen, fourth-grader Gloria Min, fifth- was hung in Boyle’s offices.
