MEMORIAL MASS - On Sunday, July 17 the members of the Constantino Brumidi Lodge #2211 of Deer Park participated in a memorial Mass for their members who passed away during the year. The Mass was held at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Church in Deer Park by Rev. Pastor Gius Garcia. The Mass began and ended with a procession of the Statue of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Blessed Mother, Lodge President Sabrina Savino, Lodge Officers and Members.

Identity Theft Prevention Tips (NAPSI)-A recent online survey by Toluna/ Greenfield Online, Inc. found that while most consumers try to protect their identity, many admitted to risky behavior that could put them at risk for ID theft. To help educate and protect consumers, world-renowned fraud prevention expert Frank Abagnale offers these tips: • Shop smart: Limit the credit cards you carry. •Keep receipts and check your statements: Examine every charge on your statement before paying. Your receipts provide a great crossreference check and guard against suspicious activity. You have 30 days from the date of your statement to notify your financial institution of any discrepancies; otherwise, you can be liable for any purchases. • Protect your computer when online shopping:

Make sure your security patch and anti-virus software are updated regularly. Consider technology to protect against potential viruses. • Watch where you shop online: Look for the lock icon on the site’s browser status bar, a sign that that site is safe. If you have never heard of a website before, see if it has security precautions in place and isn’t a fake site set up by identity thieves. •Don’t write checks: Give cash or gift cards. The information on a check—name, signature, address—can be used to steal identity. •Strengthen passwords: Use passwords with at least eight characters, including a combination of letters, numbers and symbols that are easy for you to remember but difficult for predators to guess. • Watch your wallet: Be careful at parties,

restaurants, fitness clubs, shopping carts and your car. • Don’t take the bait on phishing scams: Also, beware of shoulder surfing (when a thief looks over your shoulder while you’re at an ATM, either directly or via a camera). • Stop mail and newspaper delivery when you’ll be away from home. • Consider an identity theft protection service: One low-cost solution monitors the online criminal underground where identities are bought and sold and instantly alerts you if your Social Security number or up to 10 credit card or debit card numbers are posted by thieves. The service also scans online directories and search engines, prime sources for spammers and thieves, letting you know where your information is available, and provides advice on how to remove it.

The lodge awarded $6,000.00 in Scholarships to students of Deer Park High School and children and grandchildren of lodge members that qualified. Deer Park High School Unified Basketball Team Succeeds In Inaugural Season To the delight of the entire school community, Deer Park High School’s Unified Basketball team completed its successful inaugural season. Sponsored by the Special Olympics, Unified Basketball was founded as an inclusive sports program in 2008, combining unified athletes with intellectual disabilities and unified partners without intellectual disabilities to form competitive teams at the high school level. In Unified Sports, students with disabilities are given the chance to interact with their peers who do not have a disability in a “typical” school experience, creating new friendships and building confidence and important social skills. Section XI currently holds

a spring Unified Basketball league for Western Suffolk County school districts, consisting for a nine-week season that includes three home games and three away games. “We have a mix of our general education students that work so nicely with our students with special needs,” said Coach Cory Black, a guidance counselor at the high school. “This seems to be trending across many schools, which is so exciting. Through August 27 Juror Carol Fabricatore invited artists to enter works that captured the spirit, movement, emotions of their subject. We were looking for works inspired by life… works that conjured narratives…that took us to places we had never seen… or introduced us to people and places. Artists build their work through inspiration, references, sketches, models, underpaintings and other modes of planning. An artist’s Little Black Book is often a secret stash

of intimate expressions, innermost thoughts, and experimental techniques that lay the groundwork for their final piece. Entrants were required to submit writeups digital images, sketches, etc. that showed the evolution of each piece they entered into the show. About the juror: Carol Fabricatore is an artist in the New York City area who is a great observer of all things and likes to approach creating narrative imagery beginning with an emotional connection to an idea. She often gravitates

towards subject matter that might be seen in one’s peripheral vision or passed by on the way to something in the mainstream. She has produced art for books, magazines, newspapers, and projects for design and advertising firms. Carol has taught narrative drawing at the School of Visual Arts since 1994. She has had work in American Illustration, Communication Arts Illustration Annual, Society of Illustrators, Creative Quarterly and has won awards in the Society

of Newspaper Design, The San Francisco Show - Gold winner, Graphic Design USA; Desi Award, Graphis; Top Ten Illustrated Annual Reports & Society of Illustrators Los Angeles among many others. Families without accommodation near a hospital can endure long drives, lost jobs, worried siblings left at home and for some, no place to sleep. They’re far from family and friends who give them support. However, Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC) New York Metro, a 501c3 non-proﬁt organization, keeps families seeking medical treatment for their sick children near the care they need and the families they love. The mission of RMHC New York Metro is to build a community of compassionate care by creating and supporting programs that directly improve the health and well-being of sick children and their families. “Since its inception in 1986, the Ronald McDonald House has served an average of 1,000 families per year,” said Matt Campo, CEO, RMHC NY Metro. “We’ve given back 27,000 hours to the families to spend with their child that might have otherwise been wasted driving back and forth to hotels, to eat meals, or to do laundry. Everything a family needs for long term accommodation can be found in our house.” RMHC New York Metro runs a variety of programs, dating back to 1986 when the 42-bedroom Ronald McDonald House in New Hyde Park opened. Located immediately adjacent to the Cohen Children’s Hospital, providing the comforts of a home and compassionate care that meet the unique needs of families with sick children. The organization also operates a Family Room at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital, which gives temporary respite to families who would otherwise spend hours and even days at their children’s bedside. The corresponding Hospitality Cart, staffed by volunteers, brings refreshments and joy to the hospital rooms of children receiving hospital

care. RMHC New York Metro thrives on the participation of its volunteers from across Long Island to help families focus on what is most important: the health and well-being of their children. These children and families rely on the support of volunteers to make their days easier, and volunteers contribute to a variety of meaningful and important activities every day. Volunteers also bring joy to families through the Family Room program, opened in 2013 and serving 3,500 families every year, as well as their Meals from the Heart and Treats from the Heart Programs, which invites individuals into the kitchen at the Ronald McDonald House to cook a homemade meal and delicious desserts for families. 23 kV transmission cable replacement to improve reliability on Fire Island · MTA Beach 67th Street 33 kV transmission circuit relocation to support MTA station upgrades in Far Rockaway Storm Hardening Programs Completed Since the implementation of the FEMA-funded stormhardening program funded in 2014, PSEG Long Island has completed storm hardening and reliability work on more than 1,000 miles of distribution mainline circuits. From the first quarter of 2021 to the first quarter of 2022, the sections of circuits that are storm hardened saw a 44% reduction in damage leading to outages compared to the rest of the distribution system. PSEG Long Island is proud to continue its storm hardening

work with Power On, an initiative started in the spring of 2020 that will continue to improve reliability by strengthening distribution lines, targeting the most vulnerable circuits across Long Island and the Rockaways. Since the launch, an additional more than 190 miles of distribution mainline circuits have been storm hardened with stronger poles, thicker wire and other modern equipment. To further protect against storm damage to the energy grid, arborists from PSEG Long Island’s Tree Trimming program work throughout the year to identify and trim tree limbs in rights of way and along easements that could potentially cause outages during or after a storm. Since 2014, PSEG Long Island removed more than 88,500 hazardous trees and/or large limbs along the distribution and

transmission system and trimmed more than 21,000 miles of distribution and transmission line clearance in accordance with the industry best practice clearance standard. This standard preserves the health of the tree and directs future growth away from power lines. In addition, a new vine mitigation program identified, cut and treated more than 14,000 vine locations across Long Island and the Rockaways. PSEG Long Island also prepares its dedicated workforce for summer by conducting annual hurricane and tropical storm drills and employee training; by developing emergency summer operating plans; and by performing summer-peak reliability analyses to ensure there is sufficient capacity to meet electric demand on high-heat days.
