Rebuilding Together Long Island (RTLI) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that is an affiliate of the national organization, Rebuilding Together. RTLI works yearround with their focus on keeping people safe in their home, as well as making sure that they have safe access into their home. While most of their clients are elderly, they will help anyone who meets their income guidelines and classify as low-income with limited assets. Additionally, they have a special program to help our deserving veterans in need. As a way to thank them for their service, they created the Hero Home Improvement Program, which aligns with their mission of repairing homes, revitalizing communities and rebuilding lives.

There are many ways that you can become involved with RTLI, whether that be individually or as a company! Corporate sponsors are a huge help to the organization and it can benefit your company greatly as well. Corporate sponsors are companies that make the decision to fund a RTLI project for someone in need. Their employees will be able to participate in hands on work with the project they sponsor so their company can

In December 2015, Karam Chand, 110, and his wife, Kartari Chand, 103, from Bradford, West Yorkshire (originally from India), celebrated their 90th wedding anniversary, becoming the world’s longest-betrothed couple. In America, John and Ann Betar, ages 104 and 100, respectively, have been married 83 years as of 2016. The couple eloped in 1932. New Head Of Instructional Tech The Deer Park School District has hired Jay Murphy as its new district administrator for instructional technology, replacing Chris Kauter. Murphy had served as the integration specialist for educational technology in the North Babylon School District for the past two years. He also was the coordinator of the North Babylon Alternative High School and previously taught social studies for 17 years at North Babylon High School. Band Takes Home Silver Medal The North Babylon High School Concert band took home a silver award medal at the New York State School Music Association Majors Festival, which highlighted several talented ensembles from across Long Island. North Babylon was awarded the silver medal

for demonstrating an excellent level of technical and artistic skill. The band consisted of 90 members and was evaluated by two professional adjudicators on various musical concepts including balance, blend, tempo, style, dynamics and accuracy.

The festival challenged the students to rehearse and perform critically. They were constantly striving to create their most accurate and musical performance — a goal the ensemble accomplished at the festival. The district congratulates all band members on this wonderful accomplishment.

Law Enforcement students travelled from the Oakdale location to the Bellport campus where the Personal Training Program is housed and the obstacle course was created. The course consisted of jumping rope, performing push-ups, scaling a wall, dragging a weighted dummy to simulate pulling a victim to safety, performing CPR on another dummy, fighting off a perpetrator, making a quick arrest, and other physical challenges.

All the while, student personal trainers shouted encouragement to keep participants moving at top speed. Law Enforcement students worked with their peers in the Personal Training Program for most of the year to improve their fitness levels and prepare for this event. Said Personal Training Teacher Jonathan Audiino, “Working with regular clients over a long period of time to meet personal goals is exactly what participants in my program aspire to do, and this annual event gave them the opportunity to gain hands-on experience doing just that while they are still students.”

ARTISTS RECOGNIZED - Students from Gardiner Manor School were recognized by Legislator Steve Flotteron for their participation in the Pool Smart Poster contest. The students created posters to remind the community about pool safety.
