MEMORIAL DAY WREATH CEREMONIES - The Sons and Daughters of Italy in America, Constantino Brumidi Lodge N0. 2211 in Deer Park, recently participated in three Memorial Day Wreath Ceremonies. The ceremonies were held at the Deer Park Fire Department, VFW and Lions Club locations. Memorial Wreaths were laid at each location by President Sabrina Savino and VP Susan A. Soldano. Immediately following the ceremonies, members returned to the Lodge for a photo outside their building in the Field of Flags; the flags were sponsored by members to pay tribute to their heroes.

J. Pippen Memorial Way.” Bishop Winfred J. Pippen, who passed away in October 2020 at the age of 76, was the proud pastor of the First Baptist Church of Deer Park. Suffolk County Legislator
Tom Donnelly and TJ Hatter of New York State Attorney General Letitia James’s office also joined members of the Pippen family, representatives from the Deer Park Fire Department
and dozens of guests at the ceremony. Prior to joining the First Baptist Church of Deer Park, Bishop Pippen was an ordained minister of the Greater Second Baptist Church of Freeport. He was also founder and president of the All Christian Bible College (ACBC) and the First Baptist Bible Institute (FBBI). Over 80% of the 82 preachers that have been licensed by the First Baptist Church of
Deer Park were licensed by Pippen. Additionally, he was a lifelong member of a local chapter of the NAACP. The section of Washington Avenue that was renamed, between Sammis Avenue and Tell Avenue, is where the First Baptist Church of Deer Park is located. be holding a Line Dance event on the farm itself. For only $25/person, you can join Skip and the Country Rhythms Team for a fun afternoon of dancing, food and a raffle. All dances will be taught; you can arrive as early as 1:30 PM and dancing starts at 2 PM. Additionally, anyone is welcome to stop by and shop at their farm stand every Saturday from 10 AM - 3 PM starting June 12th running through October 10th! You will find organically-grown produce and every purchase made will support the farm and it’s mission. Looking to show your support in another way? Volunteers are needed! Depending on the season, Bethel Hobbs Community Farm has a variety of farm work that volunteers can assist with, such as planting, weeding, harvesting, working in the greenhouse and property maintenance. Individuals and groups are able to volunteer at the farm and community service hours can be given. If you are interested in volunteering, please visit their website and fill out their Volunteer Waiver Form and the contact the farm directly at 631.774.1556 to find out when you can start! Due to the pandemic, volunteers must bring a pair of gloves. Additionally, they suggest volunteers bring sunscreen and any food or drink they may need. Bethel Hobbs Community Farm is a non-profit organization with a rich history. You may know and love their farm, or you may never believe there is an 11-acre farm in Centereach that has been feeding Long Islanders for decades! The James Hobbs family came to Long Island from Georgia in 1906 and grew farm produce in New Village (North Centereach) for local Long Islanders for 3 generations, first as farm workers and later purchasing the land, which became known as Hobbs Farm. James’ son, Alfred Hobbs took ownership in 1955 and farmed his own property, as well as rental farmland in the surrounding area for many years. He passed up many opportunities to sell the property, hoping that it would always remain a farm. Thankfully, it does remain a farm to this day. Hobbs Farm is the last farm in Centereach, as well as the last AfricanAmerican family farm on Long Island. When Mr. Hobbs passed away in 1996, he left the farm property to the Bethel AME Church in Setauket, where he was a member. The farm was renamed Bethel Hobbs Community Farm. However, the church struggled with local community organizations that were threatening to buyout the land for other means. In 2007, “Friends of Hobbs Farm” was formed, which led to the restoration process of the farm. Today, the church still owns the farm, a non-profit organization that is entirely operated by volunteers. The farm is 11 acres and it grows and harvests an average of over 50,000 pounds of fresh, organic produce, which then gets donated to several local food pantries and soup kitchens on the island. They also offer CSA Memberships, which allows locals to receive a weekly share of nutritionally dense produce grown on their farm right in Centereach. The produced is packed the same day as they go out for delivery, and recipients can rest knowing exactly where they were grown. Additionally, the farm offers educational programs, community events and they have a seasonal farm stand. Currently, this farm has various upcoming community events planned! On June 13th and September 12th, they will

Under the direction of Louis Nicolosi and Gregg Romano, the band at Deer Park’s John F. Kennedy Intermediate School recently performed a virtual spring concert consisting of the songs “Old MacDonald,” “Junkyard Jam,” and “School Spirit.” Each student was filmed separately performing
their individual parts in school or at home. Romano then assembled and synchronized the videos into a performance for each selection. “Though it will never substitute for a live concert and playing in front of an audience, it was important to offer the children an alternative opportunity to
perform,” said said Bradley Murphy, the district’s fine and performing arts administrator. “Congratulations to all the students who took part in this event. They truly handled all of the challenges put in front of them this year and exceeded our expectations.”

Local Non-Profit Is In Need Of Foster Homes For Cats! Alleykattz is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that operates on volunteers alone. The organization was formed in 2016 by Sonnia Cepeda. They service all of Long Island, New York City Metro and the surrounding areas. Their mission of rescuing abandoned and homeless cats, as well as cats in danger of abuse and neglect. Alleykatz has a strict
adoption policy to ensure cats and kittens get the best homes. Adoption application and a home visit are required before placement of a cat into a home. They believe that there is a good home for every cat they rescue and even though it might take a little longer for some to find their “furever” home, it is worth the wait if they end up in a happy home that suits them. Every cat is in foster care until the
right home is found and Alleykattz is currently in need of foster homes (preferably close to Long Island).
