The Charity of the Month for May is LI Music & Entertainment Hall of Fame

The Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame (LIMEHOF) is a 501(c) (3) organization dedicated to the idea that Long Island’s musical heritage is an important resource to be celebrated and preserved for future generations. The organization, which encompasses New York State’s Nassau, Su olk, Queens, and Kings (Brooklyn) Counties, was created as a place of community that inspires and explores Long Island music in all its forms. LIMEHOF, located in Stony Brook, is heavily engrossed in our local communities and o ers Long Islanders many ways to get involved.

Since 2004, their organization has Inducted over 120 music artists and related professionals who are now recognized in their new Stony Brook location. In addition to their large exhibition area, theater and o cial “Hall of Fame Museum”, the 8,800 square foot building is home to a beautiful performance area. They’re open Wednesdays-Sundays from 12 noon through 5pm. Admission prices are: Adult $19.50, Seniors (65+) and Veterans $17.00, Students (w/ID) $15.00. Children under 12 are free. Deer Park High School students in two classes – Joe Alo’s Long Island History and Kevin Richards’ Natural History of Long Island – recently took a joint field trip. At the

Walt Whitman Birthplace State Historic Site in Huntington Station, the students toured the house and wrote poems.

They then visited West Hills County Park, hiking

three miles to the top of Jayne’s Hill, the highest point on Long Island and over 387 feet above sea level.

Spring Breakfast For Champions Honors 17 Achievers

At the annual spring Breakfast for Champions celebration, Deer Park High School recognized the achievements of 17 remarkable students in categories corresponding to school departments as well as principal’s and teacher’s awards. Held

in the school’s library, the event included the students’ proud families and featured music from a string quintet of high school musicians.

“This morning’s event is an opportunity for teachers and administrators to honor students who impacted them in some way this year,” Associate Principal Garret Noblett said. “These students show exceptional conduct and character on a daily basis. The stories heard today recognize the students’ achievement, hard work and determination to overcome obstacles. Thank you to the parents and families of our champions, who played a key role in helping them to get where they are today.

“These students’ achievement solidifies that the work that we do here in the Deer Park community is impactful, not only for our students, but beyond the walls of Deer Park High School as well,” Principal Charles Cobb said. “Congratulations to all our students here this morning.”

PSEG Foundation To Grant $1 Million To Local Organizations

The PSEG Foundation announced the 2023 request for proposals for the annual Neighborhood Partners Program, with grants available ranging from $500 to $15,000. Eligible 501(c)(3) organizations in New Jersey and Long Island, New York are encouraged to apply. Applications will be evaluated and grants awarded based on demonstrated program effectiveness, depth, breadth and overall alignment with the PSEG Foundation strategic pillars, which are environmental sustainability, social justice and equity and economic empowerment.

“We’re pleased to make $1 million in grant funding available through our very popular Neighborhood Partners Program, where we see local heroes making a difference in the lives of others throughout PSEG’s service

territories,” said Calvin Ledford Jr., PSEG Foundation president. “We seek to partner with people who have a track record of success and who present viable plans for addressing today’s largest challenges including those of sustainability, equity, social justice and economic empowerment.”

Last year the PSEG Foundation awarded more than 300 Neighborhood Partners Program grants. For example, America’s Grow-a-Row received funding for its fresh produce initiative. This program provides nutritious produce to regional hunger relief agencies and at local free farmers markets in communities that lack reliable access to affordable fresh produce. In Long Island, Habitat for Humanity used its grant for the Reuse, Reduce, Repurpose Program to help

divert more than 3 million pounds of waste from local landfills that were repurposed and sold at a fraction of the cost to benefit its clients, families and the local community.

“PSEG is the perfect example of corporate social responsibility in action. Their commitment to feeding those faced with hunger and food insecurity runs deep throughout their organization. The Sarah Grace Foundation Announces Disney Vacation Raffle

The Sarah Grace Foundation for Children with Cancer, Inc., is sponsoring a Spring Into Summer Walt Disney World Vacation Raffle. For just $20 per ticket, anyone can join in and be eligible to win a five-day, four-night stay in a Walt Disney World Deluxe Studio and a $500 Disney gift card.

The prize consists of a room which accommodates up to four people. The winner is responsible for all airfare, travel, food and park admission costs, and extras are not included. Travel dates must be flexible and be completed by March 31, 2024, and date options exclude Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Suffolk Leg. Donnelly Honors William “Bill” Corrigan As Irish American Of Distinction

Suffolk County Legislator Tom Donnelly (D-Deer Park) selected Deer Park resident William “Bill” Corrigan as the District 17 Irish American of Distinction for 2023 and honored him by presenting him with a special proclamation during the monthly meeting of the Saint Patrick’s Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH), of which Mr. Corrigan is a member, in Babylon on May 1.

Born in 1957 in Westbury, New York, Mr. Corrigan is the son of a mother whose grandparents and a father whose great-grandparents all emigrated from Ireland. He later settled with his wife in Deer Park where they had two children. Mr. Corrigan is known for being an active member of the community, serving as an usher at Ss. Cyril and Methodius Church and being a member of both

the Knights of Columbus in Deer Park and the AOH, the largest and oldest Irish Catholic organization in America.

It has been with the AOH that Mr. Corrigan has truly connected with his Irish roots, getting heavily involved and serving on several teams and in numerous leadership positions. In 2017, he was elected as an officer to the AOH Suffolk County Board where he has served as Financial Secretary, Recording Secretary, Vice President and will be installed as President this month.

Mr. Corrigan holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from SUNY Oswego and an MBA in Accounting from Baruch College. He worked in the insurance industry for 34 years before retiring.

“Mr. Corrigan has demonstrated how one can give back to their

community in so many ways including through an embracement of their heritage,” said Legislator Donnelly. “As a fellow proud Irish American, it is a particular privilege to honor him as my Irish American of Distinction for 2023. On behalf of the entire community, I thank him for all that he does.” Resolution 1046-19 designated March as “Irish American Heritage Month” in Suffolk County. Held in conjunction with this legislation, the Irish American of Distinction program highlights an outstanding leader from the community to acknowledge the enormous contributions Irish Americans have made to our county. All 18 honorees, one from each legislative district, were recognized at a ceremony held on March 24 at the H. Lee Dennison Building in Hauppauge.

LaLota Announces Hundreds Of Defense Jobs Coming To Suffolk County

Rep. Nick LaLota (NY-01) announced that hundreds of new jobs would be coming to Suffolk County after Raytheon Technologies Corporation was awarded a contract by the federal government totaling $113,628,201. The contract will cover costs for Raytheon to develop MK 15 closein weapon system (CIWS) upgrades and conversions, system overhauls, and

associated hardware. One of the manufacturing facilities Raytheon will use for this contract is located in Hauppauge, N.Y.

“I am thrilled that hundreds of high-paying defense manufacturing jobs will be coming to Suffolk County. As the son of a former Grumman Secretary and a Navy Veteran, I understand how important the defense industrial base

is to local families and Long Island’s economy,” said LaLota. “Now, as a Member of the House Armed Services Committee, I understand the strategic role Long Island’s defense manufacturing base plays in ensuring America’s military can deter the next conflict, or if needed, win it.
