During these turbulent times, Murphy continues to serve as a catalyst to keep learning alive, from spearheading initiatives to ensure that every student had access to remote instruction during the pandemic to enhancing digital spaces once the schools were ready to reopen their doors. Some of Murphy’s recent accomplishments include presenting on the topic of cybersecurity at the New York State School Board Association’s annual conference, and serving as a keynote speaker at the 2020-2021 Long Island Math Conference. In addition to organizing and facilitating Superintendent’s Conference Days, livestreaming events for the Deer Park Board of Education, rolling out Chromebooks to over 2,000 students and ensuring that staff had access to technology that would yield enhanced instructional opportunities, Murphy continues to plan and facilitate quality digital learning experiences for the students of Deer Park. He has a strong passion for curating and creating customized resources made specifically for Deer Park’s schools, regularly publishing the “TECHnically Speaking” educational technology newsletter as well as curating web pages featuring digital resources for parents, students, teachers and staff. He has also offered intensive professional development opportunities for district staff of Deer Park Schools, facilitated parent workshops to further educate the community and utilized technology to keep the community safe by regularly providing districtwide COVID-19 updates. “I attribute much of my success to the hard work and dedication of the technology team and the willingness of district staff to embrace technology,” Murphy said. “I am grateful to be part of the Deer Park team, one that has risen to the occasion of the tech-filled needs of the pandemic.”

Contractors For Kids (CFK) is a non-profit organization, which was founded for the purpose of providing assistance to families in Long Island communities. Their goal is to assist children and their families overcome obstacles that have unfortunately changed or have impacted their lives through the sickness, injury or death of a child. They are committed to this cause and want to give hope and reassurance for the futures of Long Islanders. CFK was founded in 2005 by Kevin Harney and Alan Nahmias of Stalco Construction. Kevin and Alan, both long-time philanthropists, saw the growing need for financial assistance in our communities and knew that something more needed to be done. Through random acts of kindness, they were slowly changing the lives of others, however they thirsted to make more change so they decided to form this non-profit, Contractors For Kids. Their organization runs on donations only and is volunteer based, they have no employees. One family at a time, they make sure that the financial hardship brought on by sickness, injury or death does not destroy an already hurting family. Whether it is to pay a phone bill or a mortgage payment, they want to be there to help. Since 2005, CFK has given out more than 3 MILLION DOLLARS to help local Long Islanders. Here are some of the areas they’ve helped others financially: Rent, Mortgage Payments, Oil Deliveries, Utility Bills, Food, Transportation To & From Hospitals, Co-Payments, Medications & Funeral Expenses. So how do you qualify to get help? It’s quite simple. If you can prove that you are struggling financially because of the sickness, injury or death of a child, you live on Long Island (in Nassau or Suffolk County), and you have

Why does NY State have such restrictive guidelines for animal hospitals?

The NY State government has put detailed guidelines in place for all businesses, not just veterinarians. For example, medical facilities are required to screen patients before admitting them into the facility.
It’s much easier to us to talk to you directly about your pet’s health. However right now we are required to follow guidelines issued by New York State that state “Curbside intake and pickup of animals should be used, wherever practical, to minimize the numbers of clients in waiting areas and exam rooms.”* Although that creates a lot of extra work for our staff, we are committed to complying with the NY State safety guidelines during the COVID-19 crisis, and to protect our client’s health and safety. *Exceptions can be made in situations like euthanasia
