First Responders and their families. It works tirelessly to fulfill its mission to “ensure 9/11 responders, firefighters, police and military are never forgotten and provides financial assistance where possible.” Many 9/11 charities are supported by the foundation and it is also active in the local community, giving back by creating fundraisers and adopting families during the holidays, among other things. Legislator Donnelly, a 9/11 first responder himself, worked with and knew John McNamara personally during his years as a member of the FDNY. Both John’s wife Jennifer and son Jack are active in the foundation where Jennifer serves as founder and president of the board. “I’ll never forget running into John at Ground Zero in the aftermath of September 11 and his dedication to bringing closure to grieving families as part of the search and recovery

operation,” said Legislator Donnelly. “The Johnny Mac Foundation is truly one of the premier charities in the first responder community and a wonderful tribute and legacy to the incredible person that John McNamara was. On behalf of the entire Legislature, I thank Jennifer, Jack and everyone involved with the Foundation for the incredible work they do to ensure 9/11 responders are properly taken care of.” The Johnny Mac Foundation is proud to have recently celebrated the opening of the new BayportBlue Point Library, Number 14 on John’s list of last wishes he created before he passed. The foundation will be holding its annual “14th Wish Gala” on Saturday March 5 at Smithtown Landing Country Club in Smithtown. The South Shore Audubon Society is beginning now to accept applications for a $1000 award, the Evelyn and Jerry Bishop Environmental Scholarship 2022.College juniors, seniors, or graduate students earning a degree in areas of biological or environmental science, or sustainable and renewable energy are eligible for the $1,000 scholarship. Suffolk County Legislator Tom Donnelly (D-Deer Park) honored the FDNY Firefighter John F. McNamara Foundation, also known as the “Johnny Mac Foundation,” for their 10 year anniversary at the February 1 general meeting of the Suffolk County Legislature in Hauppauge. The “Johnny Mac Foundation” was created in 2010 after FDNY Firefighter John F. McNamara sadly passed away from cancer related to his 500+ hour rescue efforts in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 attacks. Legislator Donnelly presented a County Proclamation to John’s wife Jennifer McNamara, joined by their son Jack McNamara and board members Janet Borowski, Dr. Kathleen Devine and Sheriff Errol Toulon. The Foundation continues John’s legacy of service and compassion for others, especially within his community of Blue Point and for his fellow 9/11

The Long Island Landscape-From Awe To Action Fine Art Exhibition At Mills Pond Gallery Through Feb. 26, 2022 Smithtown Township Arts Council is pleased to present The Long Island Landscape-from Awe to Action through February 26 at Mills Pond Gallery. For information or directions visit millspondgallery.org or call 631-862-6575. Mills Pond Gallery hours: Wednesdays - Fridays 10 am – 4 pm and Saturdays and Sundays 12 pm – 4 pm. Admission to the Gallery is free. The gallery is located at 660 NY-25A, St. James, NY. All parking in rear lot off Mills Pond Rd. (directly across from 199 Mills Pond Rd.) All gallery visitors asked to wear a mask, present their vaccination cards upon entry and practice social distancing. As we continue to monitor the situation, we will provide updates on our website if future changes in the virus impact us. This exhibit invites viewers to a visual journey across Long Island’s unique landscape, hoping the art exhibited helps audiences build an emotional connection to their natural world on Long Island, inspiring them to care for and look after their environment. We are hoping that this exhibit will encourage some conversation around climate change and steer people toward understanding that everyone can do something to help. The exhibit includes 60 works from 51 artists hailing from 33 Long Island communities. 2022 Ice Cream Truck Permit Opportunity The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation – Long Island Region, is accepting applications for ice cream truck opportunities at Belmont Lake, Heckscher, Hempstead Lake and Valley Stream State Parks for May 1st thru October 31st, 2022.

New York Farm Bureau Seeking 2022 Scholarship Applicants New York high school seniors who are graduating and interested in pursuing a career in agriculture can apply for New York Farm Bureau’s Agricultural Youth Scholarship. Eligible students can use the financial award for college or advanced training in the skilled trades. Statewide winners can earn up to $3,000 towards their future education. The applicant or their family must be a New York Farm Bureau member, and the student must live and/or work a farm or be involved with agriculture

in the state. The student must also complete the application which includes writing an essay addressing what they value and stand for in agriculture and life and how these values have impacted their decision to pursue an agricultural career. Scoring will determine both county and district winners and may include a personal interview. Each district winner will receive $250 and then compete for one of two state scholarships worth $3,000 and $2,000, based on their submitted applications.

Applications must be submitted by March 1, 2022, and the judging will take place prior to April 20, 2022. Reservations will open Friday, February 25 at 9:00 AM EST on the New York State Parks Reserve America website, https://newyorkstateparks. reserveamerica.com/, or by calling 800-456-2267. There are no in-person reservations. All picnic pavilion reservations must be made online or by calling Reserve America directly.
