The Story Of Cupid What would Valentine’s Day be without images of a golden-tressed boy armed with bow and arrows? The arrows represent feelings of love and desire, and they are aimed and cast at various individuals, causing them to fall deeply in love — or fall out of it. In Roman mythology, the boy is known as Cupid and is the son of Venus, the goddess of love. Portrayed as a cherubic and mischievous toddler, this magical boy was purported to be the matchmaker of gods and mortals alike. For students of Greek mythology, Cupid represents Eros, the Greek word for “desire.” He was the son of Aphrodite, Venus’ Hellenistic counterpart, and would play with the hearts of mortals and gods, sometimes leaving
mayhem in his wake. In Greek mythology, Eros was more teenager than bubbly baby, and capitalized on his status as a heartthrob rather than the cherubic status of Roman mythology, according to Richard Martin, a Stanford University professor. While Cupid may have been an adorable imp, some historians say Eros had a darker side, going so far as to describe him as calculating and sinister — forcing the wrong people into lovelorn matches. According to Museum Hack, while Cupid could make people fall in and out of love, he also was once in love himself. In this telling, Cupid is a young man when Venus learns that a mortal girl is born with such great beauty that others start to forget to worship Venus, adoring this girl
instead. Upset about the misdirected adoration toward this mortal, Venus asks Cupid to have the girl, Psyche, fall in love with a monster. Cupid agrees, but once he sees Psyche he “accidentally” hits himself with one of his own golden arrows and falls in love with Psyche. The resulting match does not prove easy, and through a series of unfortunate events, Psyche must prove her love to Cupid and accomplish various tasks to win back his heart. Eventually, Psyche does and achieves goddess status. Cupid has been portrayed both as a young man and child through Renaissance art and beyond. When Valentine’s Day became popular in the 18th and 19th centuries, Cupid was linked to Valentine’s
Day celebrations due to his matchmaking abilities. His popularity only continued in the early 20th century,
when Hallmark began to manufacture Valentine’s Day cards featuring Cupid. Cupid helped push
people together in ancient mythology, and he can even be the catalyst for modern day matchmaking as well.

FCA runs numerous Children’s Mental Health and Wellness Services programs to help children with mental and/or behavioral health issues and their families, regardless of insurance status and provides Health Home Care Management for recipients of Medicaid in both Nassau and Suffolk counties. Services are provided in the home, school and/or other community setting. FCA services utilize a “family-driven” process to create an individualized plan of service for each child and provides access to appropriate services to improve health outcomes and prevent hospitalizations.
Services (CFTSS): Provides in-home and community based supportive services, including therapy and rehabilitative support services to children who are at risk of being diagnosed or who are formally diagnosed with a mental health diagnosis. Services are available to recipients of Medicaid only.

Diversity In Deer Park Displayed On Special World Map around the school, and Frost embarked on a unique map project. In an ongoing anonymous survey, students and staff identified what countries or regions of the world their ancestors came from. A huge world map was then set up in the main lobby and the various ancestral places of origin were pinned. In an enlightening display of diversity, the pins appear literally all over the world, from Suriname to Senegal
and Sumatra. “I like how this map shows that how everybody is from different countries,” said seventh grader Amirah Wilson. “It makes people feel more welcomed when they come in, because I know a lot of my friends feel different or out of place,” said seventh grader Kathleen Dos Santos. “It’s nice to show that everybody’s from a different place, so you don’t have to feel left out.”

Notable Plays In Recent Super Bowl History As the annual championship game of the National Football League, the Super Bowl is one of the world’s most watched events every year. And for good reason, as the game is never short on dramatic moments. The following are a handful of the many notable plays in the recent history of the Super Bowl. • Malcolm Butler’s interception, Super Bowl XLIX, February 1, 2015: An epic battle between the reigning Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots effectively ended when one of the most questionable play calls in NFL history resulted in a goal-line interception by Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler. With just 26 seconds to go and trailing 28-24, Seattle decided to pass the ball from New England’s 1-yard line. The more conventional play call would have been to hand the ball off to running back Marshawn Lynch, who had already scored a touchdown and run for more than 100 yards in the game. But Seattle chose to pass, and Russell Wilson’s throw was intercepted, resulting in the Patriots winning their first Super Bowl in a decade. • David Tyree’s catch, Super Bowl XLII, February 3, 2008: It’s fitting that this Super Bowl is widely regarded as one of the greatest upsets in Super Bowl history, as it also featured one of the most unlikely heroes in the sport’s history. With his team trailing the New England Patriots 14-10 late in the fourth quarter, New York Giant David Tyree, a little-used wide receiver and special teams stalwart, made a miraculous catch on third down, leaping into the air and pinning the ball to his helmet. That 32-yard reception kept the eventual game-winning drive alive. The loss would mark the Patriots’ only defeat of the season. • Mike Jones’ tackle, Super Bowl XXXIV, January 30,
2000: A thrilling affair that featured a 16-point comeback from the Tennessee Titans, Super Bowl XXXIV came down to the final play of the game. With just six seconds remaining, the Titans trailed the St. Louis Rams 23-16 but had the ball at the Rams’ 10yard line. Titans quarterback Steve McNair completed a pass to wide receiver Kevin Dyson, only to see Rams linebacker Mike Jones tackle Dyson at the 1-yard line as time expired, stopping another Titans comeback and earning the Rams their first Super Bowl victory. • James White’s touchdown run, Super Bowl LI, February 5, 2017: While the moment itself may not be as amazing as other Super Bowl plays, it remains among the most memorable for what it represented. Trailing the Atlanta Falcons 28-3 midway through the third quarter, the New England Patriots were written off by viewers across the globe.
