Parents who want to encourage their children to volunteer may find their efforts at doing so are more convincing if they volunteer themselves. A 2013 study published in the Journal of Adolescence examined the effects that parents who volunteer and talk about volunteering have on children. Researchers found that the children of volunteers were 27 percent more likely to volunteer than children whose parents did not volunteer. The Public Libraries Of Suffolk County Reaches Record-Breaking Four Million Digital Book Checkouts In 2025 The Public Libraries of Suffolk County recently announced that it reached a record-breaking four million digital book checkouts on Livebrary. com in 2025. This important milestone is indicative of the popularity of ebooks, audiobooks, and other digital media among library patrons in Suffolk County, and the reach public libraries have within the communities they serve. Suffolk County readers check out over 11,000 digital items per day, on average, from the digital branch of Suffolk County’s 56 public libraries. The Public Libraries of Suffolk County and Livebrary.com have been providing readers 24/7 access to ebooks and audiobooks since 2010 via OverDrive and, later, its Libby reading app. Since

There’s Snow Place Like Farmingdale

Farmingdale Council Of PTAs Decks The Halls At Farmingdale High School On the morning of December 6, Farmingdale High School opened its doors for the annual Deck the Halls Holiday Breakfast. This beloved tradition fills bellies with delicious food and fills hearts with a sense of togetherness. The Farmingdale Council of PTAs ensures that the magic of the holidays reaches every

corner of the community each year, reminding everyone of the power of kindness and generosity. Elves worked their magic to turn the Farmingdale High School commons into a winter wonderland capable of melting even the Grinch’s icy heart. The Deck the Halls celebration unfolded with a mouthwatering

hot breakfast served by the Board of Education. A vibrant DJ entertained the families with cheerful holiday tunes, while guests were invited to enjoy games and crafts. Tables adorned with raffle baskets lined the area while sizzling hot chocolate stations added to the festive atmosphere. Enchanting characters from

Frozen, Charlie Brown, The Grinch, and The Polar Express wandered through the crowd to bring joy to all. The celebrations reached new levels of excitement when the legendary Mr. and Mrs. Claus arrived to captivate guests and pose for photographs. Dozens of volunteers gathered to support the

event. Theatre students from Farmingdale High School, dressed in full costume, warmly welcomed guests and posed for pictures. Enthusiastic National Honor Society members served as Santa’s helpers. These students guided young guests through various craft stations where they could make ornaments, reindeer

food, and holiday cookies. Children also participated in an exciting Elf Scavenger Hunt and dropped off their letters to Santa in a special mailbox. The annual Dalers Decks the Halls Holiday Breakfast serves as a charity event, with 100% of the proceeds used to purchase holiday gifts for local families.

Women’s Club of Farmingdale Local & International Activities On November 6, the Women’s Club of Farmingdale (WCF) “Presidents” Luncheon Committee: Rosemary Emigholz (Chair), Tina Diamond, Linda Kreussling, Debbie Podolski and Cathy Sewell celebrated club presidents – current president Lynda Leone and past presidents: Dolores Cianciabella, Tina Diamond, Rosemary Emigholz, Ida Ferrante, Barbara Hoerner, Anna Ievolo (not present), Maria Ortolani, Cheryl Parisi, Loda Romanelli, Fran Rotondo, Lorraine Stanton and Rosemary Trudden with a delicious catered hot lunch and desserts. A fall flower basket was presented to President Leone by the Luncheon Committee on behalf of the club. Special commemorative photos were taken with President Leone and past presidents who were in attendance. Also, several club members received recognition certificates from GFWC NYS for their many years of volunteer service with the WCF. On November 10, in the spirit of helping to address the increasing food supply shortage, the club made a

$200 donation to St. Kilian’s Outreach. They combined this donation with a club collection of much needed paper goods, including paper towels, napkins and toilet paper. On November 18, President Leone met with Farmingdale Public Library Director Christa Lucarelli and presented her with a $500 check to be used to support the library’s Triple P and CASE Programs. The CASE Program gives special needs adults in the Farmingdale community a space to socialize and engage in fun activities, as well as educational and rewarding programs covering a wide range of subjects. The Triple P Program (Peer Pal Program) pairs special needs participants with neurotypical teen volunteers for an hour of fun activities, such as music therapy, game playing, arts & crafts, therapy dogs, cooking, karaoke, video game playing and physical fitness, all designed to encourage teamwork, socialization and acceptance. These programs are run by Megan Peace with help from her

Also on November 18, Arts & Craft Chair Barbara Hoerner assembled items, either handmade or bought by club members, to donate to Operation Smile. After receiving life-transforming surgery, each child receives a handmade “Smile Bag” bursting with goodies – small sized personal care items, small soft toys, stickers, crayons, small coloring books and a mirror to see their new smile. And for those members who can crochet, beautiful soft, colorful blankets and afghans were made providing the children with warmth and comfort as they heal with their new smile.
