In A Year Of Uncertainty, Control What You Can Control

The mad dash towards Christmas is on. In As we put up holiday decorations, turn on Christmas music, and send out cards wishing people a joyous and peaceful season, there is still uncertainty in the air trying to dampen the mood. With all the bad news being pushed in front of us on TV, in the papers, and on social media, it’s easy to feel weighed down by the unpredictability of this year. The economy seems to shift weekly, technology is changing faster than ever, and the world continues to deliver surprises… some welcome, some not. Yet amid all this uncertainty, there remains one constant you can control: your mindset.

Too often, we focus on what is outside our control: the economy, family dynamics, business challenges, or the holiday rush. That focus can drain a person! It steals time, peace, and perspective. But when we shift our attention from worry to appreciation,

we change everything. The circumstances may stay the same, but how we experience them becomes dramatically better. In the last few weeks of 2025, challenge yourself not to react, but to respond. The difference between a reaction and a response is control. A reaction is automatic. A response is intentional. And one of the most intentional responses we can choose is gratitude. When you approach situations, especially difficult ones, with gratitude, something powerful happens…stress loosens its grip, anxiety diminishes, and your ability to think clearly and move forward actually increases. Gratitude doesn’t mean ignoring reality or pretending everything

Tell Us About It!

is perfect. It means acknowledging what’s good, what’s possible, and what’s still in your control. You can’t control the weather, but you can control how you prepare for it. You can’t control the economy, but you can control your own financial decisions. You can’t control people, but you can control how you treat them and how you let them affect you. That is strength. It is also gratitude in practice.

The world may be unpredictable, but gratitude is not. It shows up when you invite it. It grows when you practice it. And it just might be the most reliable thing you carry into 2026. And remember, gratitude changes everything!

Let us know about your honors, awards, promotions and other announcements. They are always welcome. Photos can be emailed as well. Send them to editorial@longislandmediagroup.com.

The Origins Of Christmas Stockings

The holiday season is rife with tradition. Some holiday traditions, such as holiday lighting displays, are easy to notice, while others are more subtle and possibly even unknown to many celebrants. One tradition that falls into the latter category involves the placing of oranges into Christmas stockings. The origins of Christmas stockings are rooted in legend and one of the more popular tales involves a widowed father of three beautiful girls. According to Smithsonian. com, this father struggled to make ends meet and was concerned that his financial struggles would affect his daughters' ability to find a spouse. As the legend goes, St. Nicholas was wandering through the man's town and heard of his concerns. Recognizing that the man was unlikely to accept charity, St. Nicholas slid

down the chimney of his house and placed three gold balls in the girls' recently laundered stockings, which were hanging by the fire to dry. The value of the gold balls, which were discovered the following morning, was enough to ensure the girls could eventually wed. So what does that have to do with oranges? Those who wanted to replicate the tale could not so easily come upon gold balls to place in stockings, so they chose something similar in appearance: oranges.

Tips To Winterize Your Vehicle

The elements pose a unique challenge to motor vehicles, and that’s particularly notable when seasons change. Though the shift from spring to summer or even summer to fall may not be too significant, drivers who want to safeguard their vehicles would be wise to take certain measures to prepare their cars or trucks for winter weather.

Winterizing a car can be an important part of vehicle maintenance. That’s particularly true for vehicle owners who live in regions where winter is marked by especially cold temperatures and/or significant snowfall. As fall gives way to winter, drivers can take these steps to winterize their vehicles.

• Address tires and tire pressure. The experts at Kelley Blue Book note the danger of aging and/or poorly inflated tires, particularly in winter. Icy, wet and/or snowcovered roads can be dangerous to traverse, so it benefits drivers to examine their tires prior to winter. Worn down treads reduce traction and make it more difficult for vehicles to stop, which is already challenging on roads where ice is present. It’s equally important to keep tires properly inflated, as KBB reports each 10-degree dip in temperature can lead to a one-pound loss in air pressure. Poorly inflated tires can decrease performance and safety on the road.

• Check the battery and replace it, if necessary. Another step to winterize a car involves the battery that helps to keep the vehicle running. The automotive experts at Firestone note that sinking temperatures force the chemical reaction within vehicle

batteries to slow, which reduces the amount of power the battery can generate. In fact, Firestone estimates a battery can lose as much as 60 percent of its strength in freezing temperatures. Firestone urges drivers to get a battery assessment test prior to winter to ensure the battery is healthy enough to endure the coming months. If the assessment indicates the battery is weak, replace it prior to winter.

• Check fluid levels. Routine vehicle maintenance at an auto body shop or car dealership typically involves checking and topping off fluid levels. Book such an appointment in advance of winter to ensure the vehicle has coolant, which KBB notes is formulated to resist freezing. Without sufficient coolant, a vehicle engine can suffer significant damage. Windshield washer fluid also should be filled to ensure the windshield can be sufficiently cleaned of salt during and after snowstorms. A pre-winter oil change also can help the vehicle run smoothly throughout the colder months.

• Inspect belts and hoses. KBB notes cold weather weakens belts and hoses, which can become brittle and fail in low temperatures. Belts and hoses should be checked prior to winter. Engines can overheat, electrical system problems can emerge and power steering may be compromised if belts and hoses are allowed to fall into disrepair. Winter can be a challenging time of year for cars and trucks. Various strategies to winterize a car before the mercury drops can make it safer to be on the road when the weather turns cold.

There’s No Place Like Home for the Holidays

To our friends, neighbors, clients, and fellow business owners, Thank you for making Lindenhurst such a special place to live, work, and grow. This season may your homes be filled with warmth, your families with laughter, and your new year with endless possibilities and peace. It has been our honor to help so many of you open new doors in 2025. We look forward to continuing our journeys together in the coming year.

With our deepest appreciation and gratitude, JoAnn, Meryl, Kendra, and Kamryn
