Joseph & Malina & The Whole Spasso’s Family Would Like To Wish Everyone A Happy & Safe New Year!
Kindergartners at Deauville Gardens East Elementary School in the Copiague School District showed off their caregiving skills as part of the teddy bear clinic on Dec. 5. The students played the part of doctor or nurse to care for their sick or injured teddy bears to help ease the fear and anxiety associated with doctor and hospital visits.
Representatives from Stony Brook University Trauma Center visited with classes to teach them about staying safe in the car by always wearing their seatbelts and on their bikes by always wearing their helmets. Following their discussions on ways to stay safe, the students took on the role of caregivers as they put on their gloves
and masks and cared for their injured stuffed animals. Students cared for their injured stuffed animals, tended to their injuries, bandaged them and gave them instructions on how long to rest. They also wrote down how they could be safer next time to prevent injuries.
When Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School finally unveiled their new lighting system in the gymnasium, it was shining bright with star former New York Yankee relief pitcher Mariano Rivera. Students, administrators, board of education members came together to celebrate the new lighting system on Dec. 13. Music teacher Tristan Hayes led the “The StarSpangled Banner” on the trumpet and was followed
by a performance by members of the Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School drum line. The high school step team and cheerleaders wowed the crowds before the official unveiling of the lights. Copiague School District Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kathleen Bannon welcomed guests including executives from Renu Energy Solutions and PlanLED, who donated the lighting system. The new NBA-style lighting is the only one of its kind in New
York State. The 19-year New York Yankee veteran pitcher Mariano Rivera was introduced to the crowd to a thunderous applause. He spoke to about the hardships he faced back in Panama and encouraged students to never give up on their dreams. Rivera spent some time signing autographs and speaking with students following the ceremony, including student-athletes from the baseball, basketball and volleyball teams.

Open Through December 30th 2023 Magic Of Lights At Jones Beach Long Island’s Favorite Holiday Tradition
The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and Live Nation Inc. are pleased to invite park visitors to enjoy the Magic of Lights Spectacular within Jones Beach State Park. This amazing display of over 1M lights, runs at dusk (approximately 5PM) now through December 30th. Tickets can be purchased online or at the entrance. Standard vehicles are $35 Monday – Thursday and $40 Friday – Sunday. If you would like to purchase your ticket in advance tickets are $30 by visiting

Children and young adults will enjoy the traditional 12 days of Christmas, but also Barbie Lane and the Prehistoric Section. There is also an indoor holiday village where guests can meet Santa, purchase holiday food and refreshments, and enjoy walking through the illuminating mega trees which are sure to delight all.
