Adelphi University on Dec. 4. There were presentations on the admissions process, study abroad opportunities and summer pre-college programs, as well as pep rally, panel discussion, question and answer session, lunch and campus tour. It helped students gain an understanding

about the decisions they need to make in high school to be accepted in the colleges they desire. The 39 Amityville students who attended were chosen based on essays they submitted about honoring veterans and members of the armed forces.

New Year’s Resolutions Work, If You Work Them. Last year, on December 31, 2017, I elected to spend New Year’s Eve quietly at home with my son and one of my brothers, and it was fabulously serene. We cooked a beautiful meal, watched movies, had some heart-to-heart talks and sat together on a big comfy couch to watch the ball drop. That night, as 2017 turned to 2018, I thought about the fact that I hadn’t had my entertainment column since I’d exited an in-house editor position that I worked at from 2005 through 2012. I thought about how much I missed speaking with interesting people and writing their stories. It has always felt like my life’s work. In that moment, I declared to myself that 2018 would be the year that I would bring my column back to life, and this go around, I would own my own intellectual property and be the master of my own fate. I put it out there for the universe to work its magic and let it go. On the morning of January 3, 2018, I sprang out of bed with an inspired idea. I would contact

entertainment editors around the world, introduce myself and my old column, let them know I was looking to begin again and ask if they would like to join my new syndication network. I am not sure what it was, the planets aligning, or perhaps the universe conspiring to make my New Year’s resolution come true, but before I knew it, I had one hundred media outlets across the globe on board. Now, as I approach New Year’s Eve 2018 and New Year’s Day 2019, I look back at what I have accomplished with my entertainment interview column. I am ﬁlled with pride that I didn’t just take another aimless trip around the sun this past year. I made every moment count and my New Year’s resolution was accomplished. As you are aware, I have not one, but two columns (of course “Living Well” is the second, and happened most serendipitously). One year ago today, I did not have either. That’s how much a life can change in a year. I don’t state this to brag, but to turn you into a believer, because

Amityville Memorial High School students brought joy to children on Long Island for the holidays. The Warrior Awareness Club, commonly known as the WAC PAC, recently

worked with the nonproﬁt Christmas Magic organization to provide gifts for sixty-nine children at a shelter in Mastic Beach. Students went shopping at Target to fulﬁll the

“Dear Santa” lists, and then returned to the high school to wrap the gifts. Adviser Jason McGowan said the presents were then picked up by Christmas Magic to be delivered to the children.

Each week I write this column that I started a little over a year ago, but for this issue I wanted to mention a fundraiser that I started through an oragnization that is very dear to my heart, The Water Project. The Water Project is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that unlocks homan potential by providing reliable water projects to communities in sub-Saharan Africa, which suffer from a lack of access to clean water and proper sanitation. My fundraising goal is $12,000, which if reached will allow this organization to fully fund a water project in a needy community! If I do not reach my fundraising goal, they will take all that I raised and put it towards helping as many people as possible in sub-Saharan Africa. I can not imagine lacking access to clean water and it breaks my heart knowing that is a reality for some people. I can’t sit back and do nothing about this problem. Options was formed in 1982 to respond to the need for supportive housing for people with serious mental illness. The Mental Health Residential Program grew rapidly, and in 1994 Options introduced case management services to Long Islanders living with HIV/AIDS. Soon after, a housing program for this population was started as well. More recently, Options has partnered with Long Island Health Homes to offer care coordination services to high need Medicaid users with chronic illnesses through the Access to Care Program. As of today, Options serves more than 1,800 adults and children annually through its programs and manages over 180 scattered housing sites across Nassau and Suffolk counties!

teachers judging the submissions. The winners attended an outdoor ﬁeld trip in Amityville in which they painted their drawings on the windows of local businesses on November 29th. The inspiration for the project was generated

by high school guidance Transition Coordinator Karen Gross and the Amityville Chamber of Commerce. Participating businesses included Gerald’s Market, Great South Bay Dance Studio, Wrapping It Up, Amityville Men’s Shop, Park Avenue Grill and Francesco’s Pizza “Students were able to see their personal creations come to life,” Ms. Dibble said, “It was a wonderful experience for them, their art teachers, and the Amityville community.”
