On Sunday, May 18th, Matthew J. Spadone was on his way home from Tanner Park. He witnessed a motorcycle with two people riding west on Montauk Highway get cut off by a dark-colored sedan. Christmas time is here. The days and weeks and months of planning and preparation, of shopping and wrapping and decorating and baking, have all led to this brief window of time, from Christmas Eve through Christmas Day, which lends itself to all sorts of magical moments and memories. These are the days we remember for years to come, the snapshots we savor, the recipes we pass down from generation to generation. Say what you will about the commercialism and chaos that has engulfed our society – this the time we

can recapture the true spirit of the season. Speaking of commercialism, anyone who attempted to purchase Adele tickets in the last week or so was faced with the reality that, unless you have thousands of dollars at your disposal to splurge on a pair of seats at MSG, you had best sit back and enjoy that $15 CD and accept the fact that live performances are becoming increasingly out of reach for the average consumer. For me, two straight days of manically refreshing my browser during both the advance sale and general sale led to nothing but wasted time and ample frustration. ‘Tis the season, indeed. The upside? In

the grand scheme of things, being deprived of live entertainment (temporarily, as I haven’t given up quite yet) isn’t the end of the world. As we prepare to turn the page on yet another year, we should give thanks for the important things – our health, our loved ones, the ability to celebrate with family and friends… perspective. And with that, I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Copiague Receives Grant Money

It was a great day for Copiague and its downtown Chamber President, Sharon Fattoruso, and the Copiague Chamber of Commerce recently. Thanks to Presiding Officer Legislator DuWayne Gregory and State Assemblywoman Kimberly Jean Pierre, the community was awarded $200,000 through two grant programs, one from the county and one from the state, for the revitalization of downtown Copiague. This was the third time that Chamber President Fattoruso had applied for one, and with the help of some incredibly dedicated

people in the Town of Babylon, this time was successful! Thank you to County Executive Steve Bellone, who has always had a vision plan for Copiague, which was put into effect while he served as Babylon Town Supervisor. Also thank you to current Babylon Town Supervisor Rich Schaffer for continuing the program, and for his support. This funding will be used for pedestrian safety, streetscape, sidewalks, roadway improvements, as well as the preparation of design guidelines. Copiague, as a business community, hopes to someday in the near
