To thank the Copiague School District Board of Education for their ongoing support of students, members were recognized during the Oct. 16 meeting. The New York State School Board Association designates the week of Oct. 17-21 as School Board Recognition Week. The recognitions kicked off with a performance by

the Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School Madrigal Choir. The Copiague Teachers Association donated to three local food pantries and the Eagle’s Nest food pantry. The Copiague Association of Supervisors donated to the district’s Eagle’s Nest food pantry and the Copiague Association of Principals donated

funds to the Chris Madden Scholarship. Copiague PTA Council provided refreshments for the celebration and donated to the American Association of Suicide Prevention and the Carmyne Payton Memorial Scholarship. The Art Honor Society created a piece for display in the board of education meeting room.

Notably, Team Joy announced a Chuck E Cheese fundraiser slated for Monday, November 13 in West Islip. Lindy Cares’ Gingerbread Getaway bus was a spectacle. Additionally, the Copiague Kringlers announced their leadership under the Copiague Community Care Coalition, steered by Teri Kroll. Santa Tom, Rebecca Slone, and many others played significant roles in this grandeur. Jillian Yuni steered the ‘Latke Loves’ team, and the ‘Sleigh All the Way’ team, affectionately termed the Giggling Elves, garnered attention for winning the junior champion title previously. The most prominent figure, without a doubt, was Town of Babylon

Supervisor, Rich Schaffer. In a delightful twist, it was announced that Supervisor Schaffer, along with other Elected Elf Officials, would be launching their very own Cheer Bus! Every Elf Team is distinct, with each volunteering for profound reasons, each showcasing a tale that’s inspiring and thrilling. They converge, supporting one another with unparalleled kindness. O’Connell Copiague High School on Oct. 27. Juniors in Dr. Allison Weller’s class came together after school in the courtyard to recreate historical events or historical figures on their pumpkins. Students chose events that have some historical significance to them and explained why they think it is an important event or figure in U.S. history, which helps build their historical thinking skills. This is the third year of the annual event, which started as way to bring what students are learning about in U.S. history into conversation with each other and help them socialize with each other. The presentation includes fascinating photos and videos of South Shore raptors courting and mating, having meals, capturing prey, and feeding their young dependent nestlings. These birds of prey possess speed, strength, keen eyesight, sharp beaks, and talons to hunt and feed on small vertebrates (birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and fish). Bald Eagles, Ospreys, Great Horned Owls, Northern Sawwhet Owls, Merlin, Cooper’s Hawks, Snowy Owls, and many more local raptors will be featured.
