Rebuilding Together Long Island (RTLI) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that is an affiliate of the national organization, Rebuilding Together. RTLI works yearround with their focus on keeping people safe in their home, as well as making sure that they have safe access into their home. While most of their clients are elderly, they will help anyone who meets their income guidelines and classify as low-income with limited assets. Additionally, they have a special program to help our deserving veterans in need. As a way to thank them for their service, they created the Hero Home Improvement Program, which aligns with their mission of repairing homes, revitalizing communities and rebuilding lives. This organization performs repairs including carpentry, electrical, plumbing and home modifications (including wheelchair ramps for the physically challenged), weatherization, installation of smoke alarms, back and front yard clean-ups and more. Since 1992 they have provided repairs to over 2,600 homeowners in need at a current pace of over 150 projects annually within Nassau and Suffolk. There are many ways that you can become involved with RTLI, whether that be individually or as a company! Corporate sponsors are a huge help to the organization and it can benefit your company greatly as well. Corporate sponsors are companies that make the decision to fund a RTLI project for someone in need. Their employees will be able to participate in hands on work with the project they sponsor so their company can

have the chance to take part in a team building and community leadership opportunity. When they become a corporate sponsor, companies will get to see immediate positive impact on the life of a senior, veteran, disabled individual or a family in need, while demonstrating their company’s commitment to community service and improving the quality of life right here on Long Island. These sponsors will also get acknowledged on the RTLI website, in their quarterly newsletter and on social media. Additionally, if you are a business professional and are interested in getting involved with Rebuilding Together Long Island, the opportunity is available. RTLI is now interviewing business professionals to become an integral part of their Advisory Board and help advance their mission, whether it be through financial contributions, in-kind donations, networking capabilities or another way. Lastly, this organization is looking for people to fill the following volunteer positions: Crew Members, Electricians, Plumbers and Home Visitors. For several weeks we have been discussing how to create a more meaningful funeral service by making it more personal. I am talking about the entire funeral process not just the actual funeral service. You can personalize the music during the wake if you so desire. I knew one family which at the beginning and end of each visitation for about five minutes played Frank Sinatra singing “I Did It My Way” loud enough for everyone to hear and by the end of the second visitation everyone sang along. The deceased was a life-long fan of Sinatra and endured and conquered many hardships by doing things her way. Another family redecorated my chapel with deceased’s artwork. I have also assisted families in arranging personal memorial services in their own home or restaurants where friends gathered to reflect and share memories. My point in that a funeral should reflect the life of your loved one. Whether the service is a tradional funeral with a wake, funeral mass and an interment or the service is a memorial mass or memorial funeral service which takes place after the cremation or interment. Class Of 2019 Celebrates The Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School Class of 2019 celebrated the 60th commencement exercises on June 26 at the arena at Suffolk County Community College’s Brentwood campus. Led by administrators and members of the faculty, the students marched into the ceremony to “Pomp and Circumstance” played by the concert band and director by Eric Dobmeier. Copiague School District’s Board of Education President Laura Gavey offered congratulatory remarks to the soon-tobe graduates. “The Class of 2019 has definitely made lasting memories both inside and outside the Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School,” she said. “Graduation is a time to look at what the future has in store for each of you. Tonight is the beginning of the rest of your life, graduates. So set your course and begin

your new life today and make a positive impact on the world.” Copiague School District’s Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kathleen Bannon shared her wishes for the students to continue down the successful path they have forged. “You are to be commended for all the positive energy, effort and dedication you put into everything you accomplished while you were in high school,” she said. “When you left middle school, many of you were unsure what high school would hold for you. But you had hopes and dreams, many of which have come true. Now, as you leave high school, I know all of you have dreams of what your future might hold.
