To schedule an appointment for the lottery registration, please complete the online UPK lottery appointment request form. It is available on the district website: www.copiague.k12.ny.us. If you need assistance completing the form, please call (631) 8424015, ext. 510. Following the submission of the online form, a Copiague Public Schools registrar will contact you to make an appointment to register your child for the lottery. All appointment requests must be made by July 17, 2020, to be guaranteed entry to the lottery. A random drawing will be conducted for available UPK seats at the district’s three UPK sites. Lottery results will be posted to the district website by 3 p.m. on July 30. Families will be notified by mail if they have received a seat in the UPK program, or if they have been placed on the UPK program waiting list.

Equity First Foundation (EFF) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization located here on Long Island. Rhonda Klch started this foundation with the mission to offer services, resources and programs to consumers and small businesses that are facing financial distress. Although the details of financial markets may not be necessary for everyone, a good understanding of everyday finances is needed to ensure your home, bank account and additional assets are protected as you go about your life. This nonprofit is guided by a board of experts from the Long Island business community. They strive to educate the community so people can make financial decisions with knowledge and confidence. EFF provides financial education, literacy and best practices at low or no cost to individuals and groups from primary school through retirement and including life events. Rhonda Klch, Executive Director of the Equity First Foundation has taken all necessary steps to get out of her comfort zone and attack COVID with her resources. As a women entrepreneur, she used her relationships, social media and community to power through this current pandemic. In March of 2020, when the pandemic really started to hit hard, Rhonda, along with the assistance of her board members, united to find solutions for the community despite what was going on. Rhonda believed that even though EFF programs may be on hold, that did not mean the people of the community did not still need answers and help. She has worked endless hours for the sake of the families that need assistance and need a voice. Since the pandemic Rhonda has either spearheaded or collaborated in many projects to help our community out. Here is an example of just a few: The Grab & Go 3,000 Event in Patchogue: Rhonda collaborated with business owner of local restaurant to provide over 3,000 hot meals to families in need. Grab & Go Breakfast in Rocky Point: EFF collaborated with local bagel store owner, Edward Henry of Strathmore bagels and a few

sponsors, to give-away over 300 breakfasts to families in need. 6 Week Marathon: March 29th was the beginning of a 6 week marathon of assisting front line workers with food. EFF and Rhonda did a Go Fund Me with local bagel store owner, Edward Henry to supply St. Charles, Mather and Stony Brook Hospital food every night. PPE Equipment Fundraiser: EFF collaborated with several Allstate Insurance offices to raise funds for PPE equipment. Over 2,000 masks were delivered to various hospitals, senior centers, nursing homes and fire districts. Although EFF has switched their programs from in person to virtual, they have been well received. They continue to offer free financial counseling and outreach resources for numerous families on Long Island. Miriam H. says, “Rhonda is a true professional that looks out for the best interest of her clients. She works hard at finding the best solutions and making her clients shine. Whenever referring a personal friend or client to Rhonda, I am confident in her ability to take proper care of them.” If you’re searching for somone to look out for you while guiding you through important financial decisions, Rhonda and EFF is the right choice. To qualify for either a grant or loan, an eligible entity must establish that it was financially viable prior to March 7, 2020, the date, which Governor Andrew Cuomo signed Executive Order 202 declaring a disaster emergency. Eligible entities must also conduct business in the area served by the IDA, been negatively impacted by COVID-19, and have less than 51 employees. Madlyn Cullen Turns 100 Madlyn Cullen born in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn NY was one of two children; her only brother died when he was 66 years old. She attended St. Mary’s Nursing school in Queens graduating in 1940 as WWll began. She stated, “It was rough – the doctors were busy with the war—we went right to work, just like today with the new doctors and
nurses of 2020.” She and John Thomas had 9 children “I took 16 years off to raise my children. She went back to work at age 63 at St. John’s Hospital in Queens. Both St. John’s and St. Mary’s are now closed Madlyn retired in 1989. “I loved every minute of nursing, there was not a day as a nurse that we didn’t have a good laugh, even in
bad times. Madlyn often read in the newspaper about converting Queen of the Rosary Academy an all-girl school to a senior residence, which is now Dominican Village. “I never imagined I would have been fortunate enough to live here. God smiled the day I moved in here, 10 years ago.”
