Hosted by St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Islip, NY and funded by a grant from Episcopal Ministries, it is expected to continue by traveling to Episcopal churches throughout Long Island and Queens so that “we can reach as many children as possible,” said St. Mark’s Rector, Richard E. Bethel Hobbs Community Farm is a non-profit organization with a rich history. It is an 11 acre farm, located at 178 Oxhead Road in Centereach, and is ran entirely by volunteers. This community farm grows and harvests an average of over 50,000 pounds of fresh, organic produce, which then gets donated to over 11 food pantries / soup kitchens. They also offer CSA Memberships, educational programs, they host community events and they have a seasonal farm stand! If you live nearby the farm and would like to sign up for their Summer and or Fall CSA program, you can. Their crop shares are an easy way to guarantee farm fresh veggies for you and your family all season long. By joining their CSA program you will gain a connection to their farm and know exactly where your vegetables are coming from. You will receive a weekly share of nutritionally dense produce grown right in Centereach, while supporting your own neighbors. Their organically grown vegetables are harvested and packed the same day you receive them, cutting time and travel dramatically from field to fork. Members of their Summer CSA can expect to receive a wide variety of summer vegetables, including but not limited to, summer squashes, tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, cucumbers and a diverse array of greens. Members of their Fall CSA can expect to receive an assortment of winter squashes, potatoes, sweet potatoes, onions, carrots, beets, as well as an assortment of greens. Additionally, anyone is welcome to stop by and shop at their farm stand every Saturday from 10 AM - 3 PM, which started on June 12th and runs through October 10th. You will find organically grown produce and every purchase made will support the farm and their mission. Looking to show your support in another way? Volunteers are needed! Depending on the season, Bethel Hobbs Community Farm has a variety of farm work that volunteers

can assist with, such as planting, weeding, harvesting, working in the greenhouse and property maintenance. Individuals and groups are able to volunteer at the farm and community service hours can be given. If you are interested in volunteering, please visit their website and ﬁll out their Volunteer Waiver Form and the contact the farm directly at 631.774.1556 to ﬁnd out when you can start! Due to the pandemic, volunteers must bring a pair of gloves. It it suggested that volunteers bring sunscreen and any food or drink they may need. Lastly, the farm is in need of some repairs; they need a new roof on their barn, plumbing assistance and fountain repair. If you or someone you know would be willing to donate their time and skills to assist in any of these projects, it would be such a blessing to their farm. PSEG Long Island Is Prepared For Summer 2021

PSEG Long Island is prepared for hurricane season and to meet peak demand during extreme heat situations this summer. The company’s ongoing system improvements and enhancements to the grid help provide electric reliability to Long Island and the Rockaways throughout the year. Since last August, PSEG Long Island has incorporated numerous enhancements and upgrades to the electric grid, its systems and its storm processes, including its contingency procedures. PSEG Long Island’s systems have undergone upgrades, performance tuning and numerous tests. “We are prepared and ready to respond,” said Daniel Eichhorn, president and chief operating officer, PSEG Long Island. “PSEG Long Island is committed to continually improving system reliability and enhancing the experience our customers have when they connect with us, and we

have been working nonstop to fulfill that commitment. PSEG Long Island continues to make strategic investments to serve our customers today and in the future.” IT Systems Enhancements and Testing Success PSEG Long Island has continued to make enhancements to its IT systems and has conducted robust testing of the outage management and telephony systems. Last week, PSEG Long Island completed a successful end-to-end test of the version 5.5 outage management and telephony systems in an extreme weather scenario. This endto-end test is in addition to other successful tests, which included one simulating up to 90% of the customer base reporting outages over a 24hour period. Business Continuity and Emergency Procedures PSEG Long Island updated its business continuity and emergency procedures to reflect changes and updates to address PSEG Long

Island’s response in the event of a failure of critical systems. Since last August, PSEG Long Island has conducted three drills of these procedures with its dedicated workforce. Electric Infrastructure Improvements Across Long Island and the Rockaways, PSEG Long Island has prepared the electric infrastructure by focusing on substation, and transmission and distribution improvements, as well as circuit and equipment inspections using drones, helicopters and infrared technology. PSEG Long Island’s recent infrastructure improvements include: New transformers installed in Elmont, Uniondale, Culloden Point, Roslyn, Far Rockaway and Flowerfield substations to provide additional capacity during peak demand 4 new distribution feeder lines installed in Elmont, Uniondale, Roslyn and Flowerfield areas to

A TRIBUTE TO A TRUE COMMUNITY SERVANT - On Saturday, June 5th, Suffolk County Legislator Kevin McCaffrey and Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer joined the Madden family for the rededication of West Belle Terre Avenue in Copiague as “Chris Madden Memorial Way.” Chris Madden was a true friend and community leader throughout the Lindenhurst and Copiague communities up until his tragic passing earlier last year after contracting COVID-19. He served in a number of community service oriented groups, including the Copiague School Board, American Venice Civic Association, Kiwanis Club of Copiague, and Copiague Chamber of Commerce- all of which continue to feel his loss. It is in Chris’ memory, though, that they continue to move forward, for the betterment of their communities and the lives of their neighbors. O’Connell Copiague High School students – junior Paris DeFreitas and sophomore Edison Peguero Rosario – were named student facilitators for the Long Island Regional virtual student forum sponsored by BOCES. The Copiague students – who both attended the first forum in November – were chosen by their social studies teacher to act as student facilitators for the March session. They participated in an online training session and during the forum, the students moderated group discussions, took notes and ensured participants were following proper etiquette. Celebrating July 4th July 4th is a day when Americans celebrate their independence, but it’s also a day to commemorate two men who played vital roles in procuring that independence. Both John Adams, the second President of the United States, and his successor Thomas Jefferson passed away on July 4, 1826. The two men had an interesting relationship that became increasingly complex as the nation

they helped to found developed. According to History.com, Adams and Jefferson were confidantes in the 1780s. But as time wore on, each man developed a different view of what the United States government should be, creating a rift in their relationship that was only widened by the 1800 presidential election. The men ran against each other in that election, which is

still considered one of the more contentious elections in American history. Jefferson ultimately claimed victory, a result so unnerving to Adams that he left Washington, D.C. prior to Jefferson’s inauguration. The two men would ultimately reconcile, exchanging more than 150 letters before dying within hours of one another on Independence Day in 1826.

To help educate and protect consumers, world-renowned fraud prevention expert Frank Abagnale offers these tips: • Shop smart: Limit the credit cards you carry. •Keep receipts and check your statements: Examine every charge on your statement before paying. Your receipts provide a great crossreference check and guard against suspicious activity. You have 30 days from the date of your statement to notify your financial institution of any discrepancies; otherwise, you can be liable for any purchases. • Protect your computer when online shopping: Make sure your security

patch and anti-virus software are updated regularly. Consider technology to protect against potential viruses. • Watch where you shop online: Look for the lock icon on the site’s browser status bar, a sign that that site is safe. If you have never heard of a website before, see if it has security precautions in place and isn’t a fake site set up by identity thieves. •Don’t write checks: Give cash or gift cards. The information on a check—name, signature, address—can be used to steal identity. •Strengthen passwords: Use passwords with at least eight characters, including a combination of letters, numbers and symbols that are easy for you to remember but difficult for predators to guess. • Watch your wallet: Be careful at parties, restaurants, fitness clubs,

shopping carts and your car. • Don’t take the bait on phishing scams: Also, beware of shoulder surfing (when a thief looks over your shoulder while you’re at an ATM, either directly or via a camera). • Stop mail and newspaper delivery when you’ll be away from home. • Consider an identity theft protection service: One low-cost solution monitors the online criminal underground where identities are bought and sold and instantly alerts you if your Social Security number or up to 10 credit card or debit card numbers are posted by thieves. The service also scans online directories and search engines, prime sources for spammers and thieves, letting you know where your information is available, and provides advice on how to remove it.
