Little Flower Children and Family Services of New York www.littleﬂowerny.org

One of this organization’s oldest and largest programs is its family foster care program, which has served children and families throughout New York City and Long Island since 1952. Little Flower is committed to ﬁnding safe and nurturing homes for children and young adults that are unable to remain home with their families because they believe every child should have guidance, stability and love. Little Flower strives to meet the immediate needs of children entering foster care by partnering with dedicated foster parents who bring experience and skills in supporting children experiencing trauma. Potential foster parents undergo a thorough application and screening process, complete training, and participate in a home study before becoming a foster parent. The Little Flower team provides ongoing support and services to foster parents to ensure they can create the most nurturing environment for the foster children in their care. Additionally, Little Flower partners with foster parents and children’s families to support the children while their family receives the support and services they need to safely parent upon the child’s return from foster care. They also work with extended family to ﬁnd relatives or other permanent homes for children who cannot safely return to their parents. This

For children requiring specialized care, Little Flower offers a Therapeutic Foster Boarding Home (TFBH) program based on their Wading River campus that works with children placed in foster care through Nassau or Suffolk County. Therapeutic foster parents are provided with additional training and certiﬁcation to best care for the specialized needs of the foster children in their home. In addition to providing temporary care for children in a safe and nurturing environment, foster parents work closely with the organization’s social work team and the child’s parents in support of family reuniﬁcation or permanency planning and ensure children are available to attend family visits. Foster parents model positive behavior, provide guidance and positive experiences, as well as support educational, dental, medical, and mental health needs of the child. Little Flower is proud to partner with such compassionate individuals willing to help children in need thrive and reach their full potential. Vivian M., a foster parent with Little Flower for more than 13 years, shared that she became a foster parent because she “loves children and wanted to make a difference.”

Fine Arts Honor Societies Inducts 38 New Members

For their strong commitment to the arts, 38 students from Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School were inducted into the Tri-M Music Honor Society or National Art Honor Society. Joined by family, friends, administrators and board of education members, the students pledged their commitment during an induction ceremony held in the school’s cafeteria. Copiague School District’s Coordinator of Fine Arts Jennifer RossTroise welcomed guests to the ceremony and spoke about the talented musicians and artists who were honored into the respective societies and their dedication to both their school and community. During the ceremony, honor society advisers shared examples of the high level of talent and community service

contributions of their society members. Each society’s executive board members explained the criteria a student must exhibit to be inducted into the society. In unison, they were led in reciting the pledge of the Tri-M Music and National Art honor societies. Honorary lifetime membership for the Tri-M Honor Society was given to Copiague Middle School music teacher Barbara Mayo, inducted based on student nominations. For the National Art Honor Society, Copiague Middle School art teacher Travis White received lifetime membership. In the cafeteria, an art show displayed the skill and talent of the many artists in the National Art Honor Society for all guests to enjoy. The district congratulates the following students who were inducted into

The parking lot at Costello’s Ace Hardware of Copiague was jam-packed on the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend for the KiDS NEED MoRE Charity Drive-In Movie featuring ENCANTO. Folks were able to attend for a donation of any amount. All proceeds benefit local kids coping with cancer and other lifethreatening illnesses. Executive Director and Co-Founder of KiDS NEED MoRE, Melissa Firmes explained, “we initially launched our monthly drive-in movie series at Ace in Copiague when COVID hit so that we could give folks in the community a free night outside that was safe, comfortable, and fun. People loved it so much so by popular demand, we keep doing it.” Co-founder of KiDS NEED MoRE, Johnny Ray

added, “it is great to serve the community and see folks coming together having a great time for a great cause.
