Babylon Honors Vets Staff and students of the Babylon School District recently expressed their respect and gratitude toward the nation’s veterans by showing their appreciation in multiple creative and patriotic ways. Babylon Elementary School recently hosted its annual “Patriotic Sing-a-long,” inviting family members, distinguished guests and veterans to the school. During the event, the students performed patriotic themed
songs, including “My Country, ‘Tis of Thee,” “You’re a Grand Old Flag” and “This Land is Your Land,” for all to enjoy. Additionally, art student representatives from Babylon Junior-Senior High School, along with Babylon Junior-Senior High School art teacher Cheryl Schweider, presented Babylon Elementary School and the attending guests with their beautiful, patriotic-themed art piece titled “The Spirit of America,” which featured
cascading pieces of denim to resemble the American flag. Babylon Memorial Grade School also celebrated Veterans Day by honoring 10 visiting veterans. During the event, students and staff members sang songs, recited poetry, and presented individual artwork, along with a “Missing Mans Table,” a place of honor meant to represent the servicemen and women who never returned home.

this November 28th commemorates the one-year “birthday” of my little baby betta, “Norton von Spudley.” Of course, one can never know the true date; but considering the tiny speck of a fish he was when I purchased him, I’d venture to guess one year is just about right. Last Thanksgiving was a bit of a rough one, coming just a few short days after the passing of my beloved Buddy the Betta - friend, fish and guest columnist extraordinaire. While no subsequent pet can ever truly replace him, my little Spud is certainly a welcome addition to the family. Let’s start by finding out your “Why.” Ask yourself: • Where do you want to be when you wake up on the morning of 1/1/18? • How do you want to feel physically and emotionally? • Why is this important to you? • What would it mean to you to be in a healthy place? • How will this impact your friends and family? SMALL ACTS GO LONG WAY - In recognition of World Kindness Day on November 13th, students in Eileen Moran’s English language arts class at West Babylon Junior High School worked together to help grant a wish. For his last Christmas wish, Jacob Thompson, a 9-year-old who has cancer, has been in the news asking for cards from all over the world. GOOGLE EXPEDITIONS - Sixth-grade students at West Babylon Junior High School participated in a Google Expeditions AR pioneer program on November 15th. The Google technology allows objects to be projected into 3-D images and mapped out in the physical classroom.
