Volunteer efforts varied from a first-grade Tiger Scout holding up “Food Drive” signs on the sidewalk to Babylon Village trustees sorting canned goods. At the end of the day, Scouts had fully loaded up two minivans with boxes of food and filled half a pickup truck bed with pet supplies! After bringing the donations to the local food pantries, the final tally was confirmed. Donations weighed in at a total of 908 pounds, bringing the Garvey family’s total to 15,355 pounds of food! Cub Scout Pack 104 wishes to thank the local community members that came out to show their support and encourages everyone to consider acts of kindness.

On Saturday, November 14th, Cub Scouts, friends, families and dogs joined together for a car parade led by the Babylon Village Fire Department. Also in attendance were Babylon Village’s Mayor Mary Adams, Babylon Town Supervisor Rich Schaffer, Suffolk County Legislator Kevin McCaffrey and Babylon Village Trustee Robyn Silvestri. Several Cub Scouts decided to bike the parade route, showing off handmade signs. At the parade destination, Cub Scouts Sam Garvey and Jack Burke led a group of volunteers to collect and organize food donations.
The Babylon Beautification Society is accepting volunteers for their annual Holiday Lamppost Decorating, which takes place on Sunday, November 29, 2020. Decorating will take place from 10:30 a.m. – 3:00p.m The event takes place, rain or shine. All materials are provided, just bring a ladder. Most volunteers decorate between 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Note: it takes approximately 30 minutes to decorate one lamppost Each year over 1,000 volunteers decorate the lampposts throughout Babylon Village and within a few hours, the village is transformed into a holiday wonderland. In the past, they have fully funded the event, however, this year all of the fundraising events were canceled due to COVID-19. To offset expenses, there will be a nonrefundable

World Kindness Day is celebrated annually on November 13th to recognize and promote good deeds. To demonstrate kindness, West Babylon’s Cub Scout Pack 104 wanted to do something to support the local community and its many members who have been hit hard by the ongoing pandemic. Luckily, they didn’t have to look far for inspiration! One of their own fifth grade Webelos Scouts, Sam Garvey, and his family have successfully collected non-perishable food donations in their driveway since March. In that time, the Garveys collected thousands of pounds of food, all donated to the food pantries at St. Joseph’s & First Presbyterian churches in Babylon. The Pack wanted

Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, Giving Tuesday helps raise awareness that charity is an important component of the holiday season. The nonprofit services company Neon says nearly one-third of all annual giving occurs in December, with 12 percent happening over the final three days of the year. Giving Tuesday is positioned right in the midst of the most popular time for charitable giving. With the passing of Arnold “Tony” Prisco Sr. on October 28, 2020, Copiague has suffered the loss of an illustrious resident. A businessman, entrepreneur, and strong advocate for the Copiague community, his sudden passing has impacted so many family and friends.

Born on December 22, 1934, to Anthony and Nicolena Prisco, he lived his entire life in Copiague in a very traditional Italian household. His father built the first bowling alley and Italian restaurant on Long Island. Tony’s Pizza, became Arnie’s first job, as the boy placing the pins on the alleys. Always working, his father expected his wife, Nicolena, to prepare a nightly home-cooked for him. Thus, Arnie would walk the mile from his home to the bowling alley every night to bring his father dinner. When reminiscing, Arnie would trace his work ethic directly to his own upbringing.

A high point in his life was when he was Chapter Director for Harley-Davidson for several years in the 80’s. Riding his motorcycle with fellow bikers was both a release and source of service. One of the events that he spearheaded was the Christmas Toy Run when bikers rode across Long Island raising money and toys
His connection to Blizzard Fence was evident in his daily 4:30 PM call to the office. Office manager, Donna Farina, looked forward to sharing the news of the day and “could count on his call like clockwork.” He had a true insight and a sense of people which is why his daughterin-law, Lori, clearly valued his expertise. “I could call Dad anytime and he would often advise and help me navigate the intricacies of the business and my own life. He became my second father.” He was an advocate for healthy living and went to the gym until he was in his early 80’s. He had a wide range of friends that included founding members of the community, politicians, and most importantly, encouraged new businesses and new voices. Jen Madden, shared that her husband, Chris Madden, and she would often stop into Blizzard Fence to visit with Arnie because he would inspire them to pursue actions that would benefit Copiague. He loved nothing more than to sit down, have a cup of coffee and share narratives about the past and Copiague’s history.
Arnie was the original “Greaser” and in the summer of 1950 when his future wife, Lorraine, saw him in his white convertible on the East Venice Bridge, she knew he was the one for her. They were married in 1956 when he was 22 and she was 19 and began their life together in a bungalow on East Minerva in Lindenhurst. A son, Anthony, and daughter Debbie, soon completed the family. Arnie’s career was not a straight path. He worked for Typhoon Fence learning the art of being a salesman. Arnie was the owner of the Cleaners on Oak Street. There he learned the essential skills required to manage a business. After purchasing the iconic Prisco Building from his father, he harnessed all these valuable insights, and launched Blizzard Fence in 1960. Thus, would begin a forty-year career that he developed and cherished. Arnie was the quintessential business owner, debonair and suave; he toiled around town in his Cadillac with his famous Fence 1 license plate! He nurtured his commitment to Copiague by becoming a member and donating to causes through community service organizations such as The Kiwanis Club of Copiague, and the Copiague Chamber of Commerce. He was truly passionate about investing in the progress of Copiague’s business community. This is best illustrated when he was once on vacation in Puerto Rico with close friends. He heard that Great Neck Road had

His daughter, Debbie, so articulately encapsulated her father calling him, “A great American. The American flag he would say, was ‘My flag.’ He was a true man of character.” Arnold “Tony” Prisco was a pillar of the community. He will truly be missed; the august family patriarch, his chair in the Blizzard Office will always remain his.
His interest in serving the community led him to be considered for Babylon Town Council Seat. Although, not successful in pursuing this career path, he became a force in community politics and was instrumental in promoting Madeleine Fitzgibbon to prominence and having her name considered for judgeship which she attained in 1994. Judge Fitzgibbon fondly reminisced, “That experience working with Tony is when we went from a working friendship to a family relationship.” She recalled that Arnie’s mindset was such

Continuing the family business, Arnie encouraged and fostered his support of son, Anthony Prisco, Jr.’s operation of Blizzard Fence. Following in the footsteps of his father’s legacy, Tony, Jr. reveled in Arnie’s words, “Anthony, I’m so proud of you. You’re doing a good job.” Arnie’s ties to Blizzard Fence were long-lasting and Arnie was humbled as he accepted the Rich Schaffer’s Outstanding Business
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine, his son, Anthony, daughter-in-law, Lori, daughter, Debbie, son-in-law, Charlie, eight grandchildren, eleven greatgrandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. He will be waked at Johnston’s Funeral Home in Lindenhurst. A funeral Mass will be at Our Lady of The Assumption in Copiague. He will lie in rest at St. Charles Cemetery. Town of Babylon Hometown Heroes Banner Program Announced Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer, Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez, Councilman and Veteran Advisory Board Chairman DuWayne Gregory and the rest of the Town Board announced a partnership with the Kiwanis Club of Lindenhurst to hang banners across the town featuring the names and photos of service men and women from the Town of Babylon. The program, currently administered by the Lindenhurst Kiwanis in
the Village of Lindenhurst, is an effort to honor veterans while beatifying downtown areas. Applications for the program will become available in January of 2021, with banners hanging between Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day. The banner will cost $200, with a portion of the proceeds going to a veterans-related charitable organization. In addition to the banner that will hang outside, program participants will also receive a 4”x6”
print of the banner, a digital version, and the chance to share your loved ones service story to an page on the Town of Babylon and Lindenhurst Kiwanis websites. “Here in the Town of Babylon, we always go the extra mile to honor our service men and women who have sacrificed so much to protect our freedoms,” said Supervisor Rich Schaffer. “This is a unique way to honor our veterans and add an extra element to our downtowns. Thank you to
the Lindenhurst Kiwanis, our Beautification Program and all others involved for their hard work on this project,” he added. The project first took off in the town after the mothers of two active duty service members, Carolyn Mormino
and Jeanine Walther, came to Supervisor Rich Schaffer with the idea. From there, town’s Beautification Program, led by Director Viscel Moore, was contacted by Ralph Somma of the Lindenhurst Kiwanis, who agreed to carry the village’s program out across
