STUFFED ANIMALS SPEND THE DAY WITH SECOND GRADERS - To celebrate National Take Your Teddy Bear to Work/School Day, the second graders in Ms. LoSardo’s class at South Bay Elementary School in the West Babylon School District treated their stuffed animals to a full day of academics on Oct. 11. Students began the day by reading to their bears. For their math lessons, students measured their bears, created word problems and made a graph. The American Heartworm Society advises dog owners to have their furry companions tested for heartworm annually. Such tests can typically be conducted during routine preventive care visits to the veterinarian. The AHS notes that such tests are necessary even for dogs that are taking year-round heartworm prevention medications. Tests can confirm that such programs are working or indicate if they are not effective. The American Veterinary Medical Association notes that antigen tests are the most commonly performed tests. Two brothers from Master Han’s Copiague Champions Taekwondo, Matthew Frejek and Anthony Frejek both went to the 2023 USAT National Championships in Jacksonville, Florida this year. Matthew Frejek placed 3rd (bronze medal) in Youth -30kg Fin Weight Black Belt Division Olympic Sparring. Anthony Frejek placed 1st (gold medal) in -23kg Lightweight Division Intermediate Olympic Sparring. They also went to South Korea for the 2023 Korea Open International Taekwondo Championships. This is one of the biggest tournaments in the world. Matthew Frejek placed 3rd (bronze medal) in -27kg Fin Weight Black Belt Division Olympic Sparring. Anthony Frejek placed 2nd (silver medal) in Color Belt Olympic Sparring -23kg Lightweight Division. Lastly, they attended one of the world’s major tournaments, the 2023 USAT Grand Prix Final Championships in Fort Worth, Texas. Matthew Frejek placed 2nd (silver medal) in -30kg Fin Weight Division Black Belt Olympic Sparring. Anthony Frejek placed 1st (gold medal) in -23kg Lightweight Division Intermediate Olympic Sparring. Matthew will try out for the 2024 U.S. National Taekwondo Team Trials in January in Charlotte, North Carolina. He’s been training and working hard everyday for this trial. Hope that he can be apart of the National Taekwondo Team next year!

Our health care needs change over time, so you should carefully consider your foreseeable health care needs each year. A plan that worked for us previously may not be the best choice going forward. As we head into the Medicare Open Enrollment season, it is important for people to read mail from their current health plans to see if there are any changes that might impact them for 2024. You should have this notice by October 1. Plans frequently change their premiums, copays, deductibles, and formularies. Providers may leave or be added to a plan’s network. It is important to keep informed about your coverage. The Medicare & You 2024 booklet, which

arrives in homes of all eligible for Medicare by late September, contains valuable information about Medicare benefits and a description of changes for next year. Medicare beneficiaries should review their coverage during the Open Enrollment period to determine if their current coverage is still the right one for them.
