The Charity of the Month for September is: The Twilight Wish Foundation www.twilightwish.org

experiencing the wish, and may be able to provide physician documentation when requested. The foundation has a committee that meets on a monthly basis to review new applications and they determine the eligibility of the applicants and wish requests. If approved, the foundation will grant the wish as funding and resources become available (if they are not already available). Jackie, a local Long Islander, was nominated to be a wish recipient by her friend at work. Jackie works at Walmart and would walk to work and assist residents at her local nursing home while she wasn’t working. Her friends wanted to make it easier for her to get around. After the wish was received, James Ciervo and Barbara Ransom of the Greater Port Jefferson Chamber of Commerce helped get Jackie a beautiful bicycle. They brought the bicycle to her workplace and the smile on her face was ear to ear! This foundation is presently looking for more wish applicants in the Long Island area. The Twilight Wish Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to honor and enrich the lives of seniors through intergenerational Twilight Wish celebrations. Since the foundation’s founding in 2003, their goal has been to make the world a nicer place to age, one Twilight Wish at a time. When a Twilight Wish is granted, a senior is recognized for all that they have done throughout their lives and is shown that they are appreciated and valued. This organization truly makes a difference in the lives of seniors nationwide. Often the elderly gets overlooked or they simply can’t seem to achieve their goals on their own. This is where Twilight Wish steps in. Although their headquarters are located in Pennsylvania, the foundation has chapters located around the nation. James Ciervo, who devoted much of his life to helping seniors, created their Long Island Chapter 15 years ago. His career was in the senior health care industry for many years and he continues to help seniors through the Twilight Wish Foundation today. The process of applying to be a wish recipient is fairly simple. You can visit their website at www.twilightwish.org and click on the “Wishes” tab followed by “Request A Twilight Wish”. From here you can start the process. Applications can be submitted for yourself or on behalf of someone else. The recipient of the wish must be 65 years of age or older (or a permanent resident of an eldercare facility), a legal US citizen, have an annual income of less than 200% of current federal government published poverty level income, or be unable to grant your own wish (not including financial reasons), have a history of giving back to others, be cognitively and physically capable of communicating and

Their mission was to attend, a New York State wide meeting of other Junior members and to help others. The forty girls that attended were from ages 8-17 years old. They planned and executed several volunteer activities to help veterans and their families during the conference. The girls brought boxes and bags full of items to donate to

Guardian House, a local women’s veterans shelter in the area. Some of the items included clothing, gift cards, toiletries, assorted greeting cards, linens, pocket books and so much more that were sorted and packed for delivery. The girls painted 200 large stones that had messages or art work on them that they shared with Seniors. Many took some

home to leave in local areas like parks for others to find. The girls spent several days together, painting pinky’s blue for the Dept presidents project, selling assorted candy to also use for other projects. In addition to the volunteer work, the girls held election of officers. Among those elected were two Suffolk County Junior members.

Emily Sensabaugh, a senior in East Islip School District, represented Babylon American Legion Auxiliary and was elected as New York State Honorary Historian. Emily Albert, attends Sachem Schools

and represented RusyBohm American Legion Auxiliary in Islip. She was elected as New York State Honorary Secretary. Congratulation to both girls.

Gearing Up For Another Successful Year In preparation for another successful school year, faculty and staff members of the Babylon School District kicked off the 2019-20 school year with the annual Superintendent’s Conference Day on Sept. 3 held at Babylon JuniorSenior High School’s Rowe Hall.

Prior to Babylon School District Superintendent of School Linda Rozzi’s welcoming address, she took a moment to reflect on former Babylon Junior-Senior High School social studies teacher Joe Fragapane, who passed away this past summer. Babylon School District Teachers

Association President Robert Richardelli offered a touching speech which celebrated the life of Mr. Fragapane and was followed by a thunderous round of applause from the attendees who joined him in paying their respects toward the former educator. Mrs. Rozzi then

addressed the crowd of eager educators and reviewed the many wonderful additions to the district, including technological upgrades and a number of staff members spanning all district educational buildings. After her address, multiple faculty and staff members who have been
