It’s been days, and still no sign of my human. No light on in the kitchen. No food pellet delivery at dinnertime. No – dare I say it – bath time. Nothing. Where did she go? Alone in my bowl, I swim my solitary laps, counting down the hours, days, weeks… it must be weeks by now. Just me and my plant (which, by the way, is starting to look pretty tasty at this point). I should’ve known something was up when I found a few extra flakes in my bowl right after the last human sighting. And the suitcase… what was that for? Come to think of it, I heard something about “vacation,” whatever that

is, and then this giant bettashaped vitamin was placed in my bowl with promises of food coming shortly. When? It’s already been at least a month. Time tends to fast forward when you live in a bowl. But, wait… here it is – a flake. And another. Where did they come from? No human in sight, but this little vitamin seems to be melting into food! Oh thank goodness! She didn’t forget about me after all. I wonder if she’ll ever be back? {826 Days Later…} I hear a noise! The front door… the light… MY HUMAN HAS RETURNED! Oh boy, oh boy! If I had longer fins, I’d give her the biggest hug ever! Oh, and here comes the good food,

my gourmet pellets, with a few extra thrown in – how sweet. She didn’t abandon me after all. But where did she go? I see the suitcase… but no presents? No souvenirs for Buddy? And what’s this about “bath time” now? She’s been home five minutes and already this nonsense about cleaning out the remnants of the vitamin from my bowl. Good grief. There had better be a good explanation for all this. I expect a special trip to the pet store this weekend to pick out a new toy… and extra food… and at least a week’s notice the next time one of these “vacation” things takes place. Better yet, I expect to be invited along.

On Friday, July 24th, the Babylon Lions Club hosted their 3rd Annual Summer BBQ for Hunger to raise money for eight local food pantries. Over 300 people enjoyed the beautiful weather, delicious food and entertainment at the Gilbert C. Hanse Municipal Pool on the Great South Bay. Former Mayor Hanse was a charter member of the Babylon Lions Club over 85 years ago, and the Village Pool was renamed for him in 1982. Festivities included music by Johnnie B Good, a horseshoes tournament, face painting by Joanie Baloney and a delicious BBQ cooked by the Lions members.

Back to the Books Some packed crayons and some packed laptops, but all students in the Babylon School District returned to school on September 2nd, reuniting with friends and sharing their summer stories. At Babylon Grade School Principal Steven Goldberg and Superintendent Linda Rozzi greeted students as they disembarked and welcomed them back. At Babylon Elementary School, first-graders learned where to unpack

their school supplies and worked on beginning of the year arts and craft projects, while second-graders got a chance to visit old teachers and find their new classrooms. Principal Jessica Kemler greeted the students outside the main entrance as they walked in to start the new year. It was the beginning of a new chapter for incoming seventh-graders at Babylon Junior-Senior High School, and the final first day of school for incoming

seniors. Administrators and faculty welcomed the new students and reconnected with familiar ones. “The first day of school is always an exciting time in our buildings,” Rozzi said. “We wish all of our students in the Babylon School District a happy first day and a successful new school year.” Photo courtesy of: Babylon School District
