he Girl’s Club volunteers recently clipped, snipped and shaped up the Vision of Hope Garden, located at Babylon Town Hall. Vincent Calone was kind enough to create a pink ribbon-shaped birdhouse, and install it during the clean-up. The Garden is a lovely place that is filled with shades of pink and white flowering plants. It is appreciated by many who come to see its flowers in bloom, or just sit, relax and reflect.

I haven’t watched the MTV Video Music Awards since … oh, probably around the time *NSYNC was still a certified group. So when word leaked out that they would be reuniting at this year’s ceremony in honor of Justin Timberlake receiving the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, well, you can imagine the hysteria which erupted among their longtime fans. In the days leading up to the big broadcast, you couldn’t escape the rumor mill – on TV, radio,

newspapers and especially social media – all buzzing with the possibility of a few moments of nostalgia. Twenty and thirtysomethings were instantly transported back to their glory days – back when music was more about the melody than what the artist was (or wasn’t, as the case may be) wearing, the staging, the choreography and all that nonsense. Sure, *NSYNC may not be every musical connoisseur’s idea of a deep, meaningful musical experience – but considering some of what is out there on the charts

today, it’s certainly done a decent job of standing the test of time. And so we tuned in. And we waited. We were shocked by the spectacle of Lady Gaga, disgusted by the antics of Miley Cyrus, and generally perplexed by the direction music has gone in the last ten years. It was quite the hour to endure, to say the least. But then, at long last, there it was. 110 seconds of pure joy. Surrounded by about two hours of, well, the sort of indescribable train wreck that the MTV VMA’s has become. A brief reunion. But well worth the wait.

Long Island Heart Walk More than three thousand Long Islanders are expected to join the Long Island Heart Walk on Sunday, September 22nd, to raise funds to fight heart disease and stroke, America’s No. 1 and No. 4 killers,. The annual event begins at 8:30 a.m. at Jones Beach, Field 5 in Wantagh. The non-competitive, three-mile walk includes teams of employees from local companies, along with friends and family

As they approached the casket, their first thought was, “This cannot be our dad.” Their father had always sported a mustache and, during his final hospitalization, his trademark whiskers were shaved off. The clean-shaven man in the casket was not the man they remembered. A quick trip to the costume shop across the street fixed their problem. The women giggled as they trimmed the fake mustache and placed it on their dad. Satisfied with their makeover, they settled into greeting their family and friends.
