Founded in 1994 as a Notfor-Profit Art Organization, Lumiere Ballet is a Classical Ballet Company which encompasses a Year-Round Traditional Russian Training Program.

Fusion Yogurt And Bowls Fusion Yogurt and Bowls, formerly Swirls and Twirls of West Islip, is located at 494 Union Boulevard in West Islip and is co-owned by Al Matzelle and Stuart Millman. The owners say they were drawn to this business because ice cream and frozen yogurt make people happy. Kids come into their store happy in anticipation of a delicious frozen treat and they leave just as happy, but with traces of the treat on their face. It is truly a win-win business. The store is self-serve style, where the customer is always in control of what they want and how much they want to pay simply by how much they put into their cup. The store serves an expanding menu of
items from ice cream and frozen yogurt to sundaes, cakes, pies, milkshakes, smoothies, acai and pitaya bowls, waffles, crepes, french toast, mac and cheese, brownies and a 10” pretzel, plus they have over 50 toppings to choose from every single day! Additionally, their yogurt is also offered in gluten free, non-fat, low fat, low cal, no sugar added and Kosher. Fusion is the go to place for all types of parties, especially birthday parties. They do all the work and let the parents relax while the children have a great time with all their friends. The store also hosts girl/ boy scout and school sport team meetings. Also, it is not uncommon for
fundraisers to be held there for PTA, PFA, school events and sport teams. The store also participates with West Islip’s Public Library for their various events and promotions. Al and Stuart really want their store to be the first option for moms, dads and kids of all ages to go to for their tasty treats and uplifting environment; they even have games for everyone to play and enjoy! Fusion Yogurt and Bowls has now been in business for 8 years and were voted two times as the best frozen yogurt store on Long Island! The Charity of the Month for August is: The Social Brain www.facebook.com/socialbrainny
The Social Brain is a brand new 501(c)(3) non profit in the state of New York. They are on the brink of breaking through as one of the most unique and helpful organizations that serves those suffering from a brain injury. Their mission is to provide brain injury survivors the opportunity to build friendships through socialization and reduced isolation. This organization began in January 2019 when a group of individuals, families and professionals joined together to brainstorm ideas of how they can help brain injury survivors socialize and partake in various hobbies together. Many survivors spend much of their lives in and out of rehab and home feeling isolated, but The Social Brain formed to change that. After hosting various events for survivors such as a day at Sweetbriar Nature Center, a Bowling Event, a Library Day and an afternoon at Four Star Ranch, it was obvious that they were reaching a population in need. Just last month, The Social Brain was granted 501(c)(3) status in the state of New York and they have just started working out of a community center located at 202 Middle Country Road in Middle Island. The Social Brain operates solely on volunteers and their outreach comes not only from word of mouth, but from help through their recent partnerships with local hospitals, school districts, neurology departments, Peconic Speech Services in Riverhead and St. Joseph’s College. Survivors from all over Long Island are welcome to get involved with The Social Brain. On average, each event they host has about 30-40 participates and there is no age restrictions. Recently a 4-week session hosted by The Social Brain and Peconic Speech Services in Riverhead started to help survivors learn social skills, build friendships, find cues from others and interact with peers. The first session was on August 6th and the following 3 sessions will be on August 13th, 20th and 27th. Age groups are broken down from ages 5-7, 8-12, teens and adults. information. On August 16th at 6:30PM, The Social Brain is hosting a “Basket Night Fundraiser” at the Sound Beach Property Owners Association. This will be fun night with 250 plus baskets and prizes being raffled off; top raffles include brand new bicycles from Walmart and an overnight stay at Gurney’s in Montauk. All are welcome to attend! If you bring school supplies to be donated, you will receive a single raffle ticket for each item you donate. Additionally, on September 22nd all are welcome to come support this organization and enjoy an afternoon out at the ballpark with family and friends! The Social Brain is hosting a day at the ballpark to watch the Long Island Ducks game at 1:35PM. Tickets are $15.00 a person and parking is free. There will be a pre-game autograph session with all players on the field and children will be able to run the bases post game. If you are interested in attending, please contact Ira Dunne at 631.793.4311 and also let him know if you need an accessible seat to sit or space for a wheelchair. Lastly, the Social Brain is available to attend group meetings to speak about head injury prevention. Topics can include mental health prevention, drug abuse, bike/wheeled safety, sport safety, concussions, anti-bullying and asking for help when needed. They will prepare your speech based on age group and your needs. Babylon’s 2019 Soldier Ride Successful Again Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer, Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez, Councilwoman and event organizer Jackie Gordon and the rest of the Town Board welcomed over 1,400 riders to Town Hall for the 2019 Soldier Ride. The event, a 25-mile bicycle ride that begins at Town Hall in Lindenhurst and ends at Overlook Beach, has raised around over million dollars for the Wounded Warrior Project in 12 years. Other notable elected officials were in attendance, including Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone, Suffolk County Sherriff Errol Toulon, several New York State Senators, Assemblypersons and local village officials. Wounded Warrior Project CEO Michael Linnington and former NFL player Tony Richardson were also in attendance and spoke at the morning ceremony.
“It is crucial for us to provide support for the brave men and women who risk their lives overseas and make serious sacrifices,” said Councilwoman Gordon surrounded by the other elected officials and representatives on the front steps of Babylon Town Hall. “This event is a great example of our community coming together to support these heroes. Thank you to everyone at the Wounded Warrior Project for their hard work to make this event happen each year and be such a success,” she added. Over 50 Wounded Warriors led the pack of bicyclists out of Town Hall after a flyover by a Suffolk County Police Department helicopter. Residents lined the course from Sunrise Highway to the entrance of Overlook Beach, where a barbeque hosted by local emergency response
departments and sponsors welcomed the riders. “This event gets bigger and bigger every year and never fails to impress,” said Supervisor Schaffer before introducing the group of elected officials that were in attendance. “Our country was built on the actions of people like our Lieutenant Colonel Jackie Gordon and the rest of the veterans you see here today,” he added. Frank Agoglia, a World War II veteran who stormed the beaches of Normandy during the D-Day invasion and Deer Park resident, was honored before the start of the ride. Frank served with a Glider Infantry Regiment attached to the 82nd Airborne Division. After serving his country, he served the people of New York as a member of the NYPD from 1947 to 1980 when he retired as a detective.
