The Town of Babylon Department of Environmental Control recently collaborated with the South Shore Estuary Reserve (SSER) office to create educational signage that raises ecological awareness to the importance of eelgrass in the Great South Bay. Eelgrass is a type of underwater marine plant found throughout the Northeast Atlantic coast. The plant has many benefits to marine life, including the absorption of nutrients, stabilizing shorelines, providing marine

habitat, storing carbon, etc. The plant is threatened by poor water quality and increasing water temperatures among other factors. According to SSER, about 45% of eelgrass has been lost since 2002. Prior to the start of the summer 2022 season, the Town has installed the signs about the importance of preserving eelgrass at three parks; Cedar Beach Marina, Tanner Park and Venetian Shores. It is anticipated that other south shore townships will also install the signs

Department Of Environmental Control Works To Install Eelgrass Awareness Signage Along The Great South Bay within their jurisdictions. “It is our hope that this signage will help inform the public of the benefits of eelgrass to our waters, and teach vital steps we can all take to help protect this delicate plant,” said Supervisor Rich Schaffer. “The signage is a great educational tool for the families who utilize our facilities in the summer months.”

Little Flower Children and Family Services of New York www.littleﬂowerny.org

This year they will celebrate their 25th Annual Golf Outing on September 12, 2022 at Engineers Country Club in Roslyn. Guests in attendance will enjoy a day of golf, breakfast, BBQ lunch, a cocktail and networking hour, along with an inspiring program. Little Flower will honor the past and promise for the future with honoree Grace Lo Grande, former Little Flower Executive Director, and special guests, such as former foster youth, now Little Flower Board member, Bianca Buckridee. Grace served the organization for 19 years, seeing it through growth and transformation, witnessing ﬁrsthand the tremendous impact made by Little Flower’s essential staff on thousands of children, families and people with developmental or intellectual disabilities. Bianca has the unique experience of Little Flower through the client lens, having received services as a child in foster care. She credits the social workers who worked with her as a young adult with helping her see past foster care and her potential for the future. She has supported the organization over the years and recently was elected a member of their Board of Directors.

You can also positively impact those served by Little Flower by donating your time as a volunteer at this upcoming event. Volunteers will have the option to greet and check in guests at registration, manage and monitor contests on the course throughout the day or support the activities during the cocktail hour and program.

Clothing Donations Needed For Long Island Children

On 9/11/2001 the world changed with the terrorist attacks. My first thoughts were how do these people go on without getting to say goodbye to their loved ones. Then it happened to our family the following year. Our youngest daughter, Michelle was killed in a car accident at age 16. What was supposed to be a movie night with 3 other friends, turned tragic. So much has happened in 20 long years. I will always ask, “Why my Michelle” especially on July 2nd every year. She was loved by everyone…her family, friends, classmates, teachers, co-workers & all & missed out on her whole life ahead. Where would her life be now? We will never know. She would have turned 37 this October. We pray that she continue to watch over our family especially her sister & brother & nieces & nephews. I always wish my grandchildren could have met their Aunt Michelle. She will always be in our hearts. We love you forever, Michelle.

The top 25 students in the West Babylon Class of 202022 were honored for their accomplishments during the annual Blue and Gold Breakfast with the Superintendent on June 16. Hosted by West Babylon School District’s Superintendent of Schools Dr. Yiendhy Farrelly and joined by district administrators, students were invited to celebrate their achievements in the board of education room.

Honoring The Top Of The Class Of 2022 The students were asked to choose a staff member who has greatly impacted their educational career to join them as their guest for the breakfast. Dr. Farrelly called each student up to be recognized individually and presented him or her with a gift. The student then invited their honored guest to be acknowledged as well. The top 25 students gathered together for one last group photo together before their upcoming graduation.

Robert Moses Middle School students in North Babylon recently presented “The Lion King Jr.” in conjunction with Plaza Theatrical. After enjoying a 10-week residency with the theater company, students in grades 7 and 8 gave a marvelous showing of the Broadway hit. The cast, led by Tristan Williams and Michael Mazur as Simba, G’Vienna Salas as Nala, Grace Knappe as Rafiki and Tanner Wojt as Mufasa made each song their own, with lovely choreography and musical numbers. Aidan Burshtein and Philip Russo kept the audience in stitches as Timon and Pumbaa and had the house clapping along to “Hakuna Matata.” The entire production was a delight from start to finish and it was a great way for RMMS students to return to live stage productions. The North Babylon High School’s International Thespian Society hosted its 2022 induction ceremony in April and welcomed 10 new members to its program. Moderator and High School Theater teacher Lisa Drance conducted the ceremony along with CoPresidents Haylee Fox and Aiyana Torres. Inductees were added to Troupe #3370 during a lovely ceremony where each new members’ accomplishments were highlighted. New members include Lily Bakalli, Fabiana Canales, Keira Fox, Arianna George, Jessica Goodis, Diamond McPartling, Emily Meyer, Kaylee Neumann, Jenna Schmitt and Jada Walters. Babylon Resident Jack Miller Recognized With ‘Lifetime Volunteer Award’ Suffolk County Legislator Tom Donnelly (D-Deer Park), Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer, Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez and Councilman Terry McSweeney recently joined with the family, friends and colleagues of Jack Miller to surprise him with Lifetime Volunteer Awards. Held at the start of the May 18 monthly meeting of the Town of Babylon Fire Chiefs Association at the Lindenhurst Firemans Pavillion, Mr. Miller of Dix Hills was honored with the special awards for his dedication and commitment to community. A retired highly-decorated detective with more than 25 years of service in the Suffolk County Police Department (SCPD), Mr. Miller has been a long-time advocate for the health and welfare of retired and current offices as a trustee of

the SCPD First Precinct Brotherhood. He is also an active member and past chief of the Wyandanch Fire Company with more than 53 years of service. In addition, Mr. Miller has coordinated and managed the hospitality for the Babylon Wounded Warriors Soldier Ride since 2007 and has helped plan many Long Island funerals for first responders who lost their lives after 9/11. In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy he also assisted the American Red Cross with transportation for seniors. “Jack Miller truly exemplifies volunteerism, giving back and caring in every sense of the word,” said Legislator Donnelly. “I cannot think of someone more deserving of recognition and I thank him for his many years of dedicated service to our community. We are very grateful.”

Pal-O-Mine Equestrian and Eastern Suffolk BOCES Announce Job Fair Recruiting for Full and Part-Time Positions

Pal-O-Mine Equestrian, Inc., a private, not for profit organization providing a comprehensive therapeutic equine program using horses to facilitate growth, learning and healing for children and adults with disabilities, will be holding a Job Fair at the Farm to fill a variety of full and part-time positions. Eastern Suffolk BOCES collaborates with Pal-OMine to provide students with alternative approaches for educational success. These organization’s use a comprehensive team approach and are seeking individuals for paid positions who have educational, mental health, speech and occupational therapy backgrounds, as well as those with Department of Corrections, Department of Probation, and State or

County Court experience. Volunteers, including retired first responders and veterans, are also sought. The Job Fair will take place at the organization’s farm in Islandia on Friday, July 8th and Friday, August 12th with time slots for appointments from 10:00 am-11:30 am, 11:30 am-1 pm. To introduce the organization and all of its facilities, all candidates will be taken on a brief walking tour of Pal-O-Mine Equestrian.
